It's very simple, and you really don't control very much, but I really enjoyed it. Not for everyone, but a simplr, relaxing and funny game. The ore imgaination you have when making your Miis, the funnier it is.

Miitopia on switch is the release of a fun 3DS game, and it has been given intense upgrades that make the rerelease worth it. To start with the changes, the biggest thing is the far enhanced mii making. The level of customization with makeup is unbelievable and you (or more accurately random people on the internet with immense skill and time) can make literally anyone as a mii. To start with the changes, the biggest thing is the far enhanced mii making. The level of customization with makeup is unbelievable and you (or more accurately random people on the internet with immense skill and time) can make literally anyone as a mii. The game also introduces a horse as pretty much a fifth party member. Horse is cool, mine is named Robert and I love him. I haven't played the 3DS version so I believe those are the main changes (as well as an upscaling to HD that looks good). Now moving on to the minor complaints that I think hold the game back. To start, you can kinda tell some enemies are upscaled 3DS ones and appear a bit blocky or sharp. Another thing is that horse whispering attacks are awesome but only the player character can use them which makes the horse bonding with party members feel insignificant and seeing all the awesome horse whispering moves would require you to play every job as the main character. Only other problem I could really think of is how underused the townspeople are. Some have like maybe 5 lines of dialogue. The good parts are hard to list because the whole game is amazing. Mii making is fun, almost all the interactions are fun, the humor is good, the combat is good if not a bit simple, and the post game is phenomenal. I very much recommend it. Expand

But, the game itself is very silly and simplistic. Like, put players in the same room together to build friendship. Then increased friendship leads to random collaborative attacks on the battlefield. The fighting is very simplistic. Players can choose a job such as thief, pop star or chef. There are unicorns. It is a game for kids. Little kids. I’m glad that she’s happy to play the game and it is an activity that she doesn’t need much supervision, but hopefully she can beat it and let go of it in a few months and I can get half my money back. For young kids, I’d give this game a 8/10. For adults, it’s like a 3. I would never pay $50 for a game like this for myself. Games that young kids and adults can enjoy together better include Mario Kart, Snipperclippers, Luigis Mansion, and Minecraft. Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Miitopia is a fun game. Now, to prove it. The game starts by letting you create your story, and so creates a decent mix between gameplay and random events. The game is better if your characters are diverse in personality and jobs, as the game builds of the diversity factor. Also, the horse is fun, but the game falls off during the post game, as the extra worlds are a difficult grind. Expand

Miitopia is just as good on the Switch as it is on the 3ds, maybe even better. I'm glad we're finally seeing the return of Mii games, they are always some of my favorites, and I hope we get more Mii ports and even some original Mii games.

I love everything about this game. Only wish you didn’t need NSO to get Mii codes. I find most JRPGs too grindy but that’s not the case with this. Not the deepest game but lots of classes and personalities give it some replayability

The graphics look great, the music is good, and the game is pretty funny too, especially if you put in Miis of friends or characters. Some people may say that $50 for a 3DS port is expensive, but the price is perfect in my opinion. The game was originally $40 on the 3DS, and they have added a good amount of new content to keep it fresh, plus the original game had a lot of content to begin with. This game is just as good as the original, but with new ideas that surprised me and made the game even better than before. I will easily sink 100 hours into it, because each playthrough is different and now you can have more than one file due to multiple Switch profiles. This is one game that no matter how many times I play it, it never gets old. I have played the 3DS version several times, and will certainly play this version several times. This is legitimately one of the greatest games of all time, both the 3DS version and the Switch version, and it has very few flaws. I only wish this game had multiplayer so I could share this wonderful experience with friends.

That being said... the "Wigs and Makeup" options kind of make the vanilla maker redundant. The hair you popped onto Vanilla you is gone, the eyes you used are often conflicting with the flexibility of the new tools and if you already have lips, the new tool for this is useless.

HOWEVER... you can put anything ANYWHERE YOU WANT. Put those lips on your forehead if you want.

You can also do this for the actors too... which they don't tell you. Which i find unsettleing when i made do with the vanilla version of my child actor. Now he looks out of place... when i wont even see them again.

Create/Use Mii characters for the whole story

    Con's

Boring story with a super linear path
Bad A.I that controls your other party members
Very repetitive content that is repeated multiple times
Remaster isn't worth the asking price, doesn't change/add nearly enough to justify
Jobs are nearly identical + some job skills hurt your relationships
USELESS personalities, with only 'cool' personality being viable

Miitopia is basically an interactive movie that is not only slow paced, it's painful and frustrating in parts, the basic flow of the game is watch your choice of Miis follow incredibly linear paths and each time and specific points several things happen...

    1) Find a chest
    2) Enemy battle
    3) Random cut scene that usually serves no purpose
    4) Find inn, repeat until you beat the game

The entire flow of the game is literally identical, the first chapter gets your team of 4 Miis to find the faces of the town and fight the end of chapter boss, moving into the start of chapter 2 your teammates will get captured and you get to pick 3 more Miis as you do the exact same thing you did in chapter 1.....and guess what...chapter 3 is exactly the same, only until you unlock the travelers hub do things change up...a little with some side quests, it's fairly short lived.....even the Dark Lord is recycled as you fight the Darker Dark Lord which isn't exactly difficult to beat either.

Levelling up your characters is tedious, often serves very little purpose if you don't have the proper weapons/armor for the area, which in itself is extremely frustrating as you are at the mercy of your Miis if they actually want a weapon/armor, quite often you could be flush with gold but you're Mii's are perfectly fine with the gear they have, forcing you to either repeat the fastest maps until they decide its time for an upgrade, then throw in them buying MP candy instead to further insult you, often you are forced into using the horrendously bad mini-games of roulette in the hopes it'll finally give you some gear upgrades, often giving you useless banana instead at least, its easier to win something, the other people rock/paper/scissors which was an complete waste of tickets. The personality system is completely useless, almost all of them have aspects that actually hurt or weaken your characters and cause unnecessary resentment, 'cool' is pretty much the best one by far.

Also as you progress through the game, more features are steadily unlocked with may or may not actually help you, you'll unlock more and more sprinkles which make the healer classes useless in middle and end game as you'll end up with literally hundreds, but the actual sprinkles which make a difference never increases like life, hyper and shield not that they are super useful and only against fiends which hit for 999 hp and always attack first....many skills are stupid as they actually often cause your teammates to get angry often causing them to quarrel which can cause issues in battle, and forces you to repair the friendship, or go through the hassle of getting the pop star job to use love and peace skill.

The differences between the switch and 3DS honestly do not justify the price tag if I am being honest, sure you can make slightly better and more interesting characters...you get a horse that 'sometimes' will give you a powerful attack, and rarely in boss fights...in the final fight, the horse never helped once. The other difference is the outings which you can send them on a date basically to increase the relationship, most of the time you'll not really bother with them and best to save them when a relationship turns into a quarrel so you can repair the friendship fast.

The only positive aspects are some of the potential hilarious story that can unfold if you pick/create freakish looking characters, this is literally the only reason to play this game - if you can even call playing it, as the game is extremely linear on forced rolls, you cannot directly control the other characters only your character, and the A.I is extremely bad which makes the process worse, later in the game you'll run into many situations that splits your party, or makes you temporarily lose party members and the worst is in the final phase when pretty much you'll get emergency spam as your team members get sick constantly, it's so bad it happens literally each completed route.

By roughly chapter 2, you'll be holding B button down constantly to speed up the game because you've pretty much seen all the outcomes of the cut scenes/inn scenes/outings and the game becomes a chore to play.

An absolute treat for those who missed out on this game's charm the first time around. The expanded creation tools are a nice draw, but it's still hard to justify a $50 price tag on a remastered 3DS game, especially when there isn't much else in the way of new content. Here youre in control of the chaarcters in your miitopia world, dark lord whoever you want took all the faces of the miitopia world, and its up to you to go rescue them… thisis very much a babys first jrpg.. but I loved it.. yull be going from location to location, defeating enemies, gaining xp and gaining gold. As the game goes on, more charcters will join your party, you create their faces and choose their class. Gameplay wise this is more of a management game than it is an actual jrpg.. theres very little strategy here other than balancing your team with certain classes… each character attacks on their own.. and youll eventually find yourself just playing on auto battle, going through the motions not even caring what attack your main character uses aside from boss battles.. this is where you need to caerfully use certain attacks, use these sprinkles to regain magic points or health points, or even to bring a character back that has fainted… the rest of the game is a lot of relationship building, putting your miis into rooms together, setting them out on dates… the better their relationship becomes, the better they do in battle together, so eventually you figre out certain skills youd like every charactee to have so you balance relationship accordingly rather than just have on ore 2 charatcers really attached to eachother… but you cant get too attached to your team, because you do lose them.. twice… o oyull be making 3 teams and playing through the campaign ith 3 different classes… but it really does become addicting collecting gold, doing optional levels for better gear or arcade tickets to throw into the roulette or rokc paper siscors… occasionally your characters will aks for money to go shopping and get new weapons and clothing.. you can aslo feed them food and each character reacts differently.. some loving a certain food, others not so much.. but this food boosts your main stats permanately.. so a healer for example you want to boost their defense and magic, youll hardly need bhealing bananas… the magic in this game really does come from the character building.. if youre making charatcers based off of people you know, youre going to be more invested and there are so many hilarious moments as a result… otherwise I can see many get kind of bored of this game probably halfway through, as it is a little repetetiv and feels like it goes on forever…
But I prosnally couldn’t stop playing, and when I did.. I ws thinking about playing..
I did eventually get to the point where I was just pushing through, ready for this to end.. but I didn’t feel this until maybe the final 6 hours of the game.. but miitopia I found to be really special and unique.. a must play if you have a group you can set out on an adventure together.

In addition, if the relationships are interesting to note, we clearly do not have control of the game (not control of allies, nor of conversations) which makes the game a random rpg!

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. Miitopia is my favorite game of all time since the 3Ds version back in 2018. The switch version has improved in every way. While it is indeed my favorite, it is not the best game in the world. Warning. : If you want an rpg that takes itself seriously, this game is NOT for you. If you want compelling game play, this game is NOT for you. If you want puzzle mechanics, this is NOT for you. To empathize; this is a mii game. It doesn’t want you to take it seriously, and it doesn’t want to wow you. This is just “turn off your brain” fun.

Pros: If you’re a creative person, this game is a love letter for fanfiction writers and creative writers or drawers combined. It’s kind of funny in some ways— going for dry humor, interesting cinematic abilities, vivid characters, and just some wholesomeness to boot.

The gameplay is simple of course. The one thing I can say that rivals with other fabulous games is the music soundtrack ost. It didn’t need to be as great as it is, and yet the music producers went hard on it. All in all it’s a great game if you want to relax, have a laugh, or just want another mii game.

Cons: While I say it’s my favorite game, and I think it’s by far the best Mii game, having tied with Tomodachi Life, it is far from the best game that Nintendo created. It does have some problems. The more effort you give into creativity, the better. If you try to blah-zay through everything in this game, you’re going to have an— at best: dull experience. While the story isn’t meant to be amazing, it has pacing issues, having a huge draw out dip around world 2 and 3, and picks back up at 4. This could be a make or break for you. Also if you’re an adult playing this game, expect what is said to you in other reviews. This is the only time where I can totally understand the negative reviews without feeling flustered. Most, if not all of these reviews are valid, so don’t just buy out of impulse. Final thoughts: This game is an 8/10. I personally think this is worth every penny. LET ME EMPATHIZE THAT: If it was a penny less, I’d feel like nintendo underestimated themselves, and if it was a penny more, I’d feel insulted and want my money back. This is a great game, and I’m glad it’s finally getting the recognition it deserves.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I love the story, but I hate the animation. It has a lot of animation errors. The developers don't know how to rig Miis. Mii animations have the worst animations ever. Plus, the dialogue doesn't make any sense (e.g. Mii have trouble with socks though they're not wearing any socks, Mii forgeting to tie their shoelaces though they don't wear any shoelaces). It is very creepy when the Dark Lord steals their face. And this game is rated E for everyone. The game came out in 2016-2017, but why is the animation old and terrible. They wanted to make the game now. They should delete that game, and make a better version of it. It would be called Humantopia. There will be no animation errors. The dialogues will make sense. And the Dark Lord will steal souls. Expand

You basically watch the game happen and don’t really play it. Decisions aren’t critical at any point. The ending is not satisfying. There is no discovery. You’re just watching the game happen. It is silly and quirky… but largely a chore to do the same repetitive tasks to build relationships with your team members.

For those who may not know, Miitopia is an RPG which puts its focus on Miis, the goofy avatars you get to create on your Nintendo console, by giving them the role of pretty much anything. From your main character to your party to the various NPCs, the game never misses an opportunity to let you choose which Miis you want to use, making for a very colorful cast with infinite possibilities.
Miitopia offers the player a very simple story to go through. Your hero and their wacky team need to defeat the big bad guy who's threatening the land, whilst travelling through whimsical settings and making some odd friends along the way. For what it's worth, it's charming and doesn't take itself too seriously, making it so any Mii you choose for your cast doesn't feel out of place. It even manages to pull a few unexpected twists at you (some of which surprised me on my very first playthrough). While embarking on your adventure, you'll be fighting off against a variety of monsters which will try to stop you on your path. Unfortunately this part can be a bit of a letdown to some.
In fact, regardless of your ability to alter your party's stats through a diverse range of snacks and equipment, you're not actually able to control your Miis in battle apart from your main hero. If anything, the outcome of the battles is mostly decided through plain RNG. Now this wouldn't be much of a problem, if it weren't for the mediocre A.I. of your partners, which more often than not leads to poor choices on their part.
As a consequence, there's not much strategizing to be done.
The battles themselves start to feel the same after a while, even though some enemies can have quirks to spice things up a bit. Other elements such as your Miis' personality and relationships can also influence the combat (for example, by helping another member). Nevertheless I often found myself skipping through them.
Upon creating a Mii for your team, you can pick between a selection of classes, each with its own role and abilities. They are somewhat balanced and you should be able to create a pretty functional team by using any combination of the jobs given.
Now I wouldn't jump the gun and say that the game is super easy overall, but it does do a ton of handholding. There are a couple of features meant to make the combat less difficult. Most of them feel somewhat useless, since you can do a lot of these things with the Miis alone.
Another thing the game is very well-known for is the funny interactions between your Miis. They are full of amusing dialogues and entertaining moments which might get a chuckle out of you.
This port didn't add much to the original, but it does offer some new content.
Firstly, it added the ability to send Miis on outings, with now more interactions to be seen, depending on the ticket given. Said events tend to get repetitive and using the tickets did feel like a chore to me more than anything. That aside, they're actually very useful when you need to raise relationships with new members.
Another feature that was added to the game is the horse character. While it leads to a number of adorable interactions between it and the Miis, it's hardly acknowledged by the story or the battles. As a matter of fact, the horse was introduced to provide aid in battle, and it's a surprisingly strong ally at that. Problem is, you don't get to decide when to use it. You have to wait until it's ready to battle before unleashing one of its powerful moves. Doing so adds another RNG element to what is already a handful of RNG elements.
But the best feature of this port is the new Mii customization.
The developers tried to solve the limitation problem of the old creator by giving the player the most creative customization to date. The makeup section let's you do whatever your mind desires. You're able to put any detail anywhere (so long as it stays in the 100 limit), so there aren't many constraints on what you can and cannot do.
This version also added wigs to put on your Miis, even though they aren't as customisable as the make up.
I've gotta say I've never had this much fun making Miis and the fact I get to use them makes it so much better.
And if you don't feel like spending much time and effort customizing the characters, then that's no problem. Thanks to its share feature, you can download any Mii that has been made available by its creator. All in all, Miitopia is a very endearing game that I would recommend to anyone who wants to do more with the Miis they made and have a fun time while doing so. If you really enjoy the overall goofiness of the game you might be able to look past the repetitive and random gameplay.
If you're looking for a hard-core RPG that requires strategy and a complex combat system or if you're not into banal and kiddy stories, then this game is probably not for

Hilarity and stupidity are the appeal of Miitopia, and while the game lacks a lot of general depth and leans heavily on the idea of the player making their own fun, it truly delivers in spades when played to its strengths. Also, I loved the ending. The Dark Lord wasn't the bad guy: he was just shunned by everyone. So I decided to help him and give him a face, and that was the end. A purely heartwarming finish to the game.
This is gonna be so **** nostalgic in the future. THAT'S how good this game is. So buy this game, because you're not gonna regret it.

this is a funny light hearted RPG with a simple and addictive gameplay loop the only flaw in this game is the mild repetition and the game requiring grind BUT the game does let you beat it by simply clearing each path with the little flag so it was not terribly grindy overall i had an amazing time its definitely worth the money .

Miitopia is a silly rpg with life-sym mechanics. This mix offers a fun experience for people of every age. The only thing that bothered me is the passiveness of the game; at least in the battles, I would have liked controlling every member of the team and not just one.

Miitopia is a fun first RPG for young kids, and while it can also be fun for adults, the game quickly gets repetitive and unrewarding. It would be better as a multiplayer game on Switch, or even an online outing that had more to do. It really defeats itself as a solo game. Its real appeal lies not in the RPG adventure itself, then, but in how wildly robust the new Mii-making interface is. Some people may want to pick up the game for that feature alone. Compared to the original released on 3DS in 2017, the Switch version of Miitopia looks better and offers a couple of additions, but it is pretty much the same thing. I had a lot of fun with it once again and I can recommend it to anyone looking for a funny (but not necessarily hilarious) game with an extraordinarily enjoyable gameplay loop. [08/2021, p.66]
