    this game is really good
    the controls are fast but i kinda hate it to there are so many moves and since the game is kinda fast paced you somtimes press random buttons since your panicking because an emmi is chasing you or your fighting a boss
    but the emmi are great the bosses are really good - the robot soldiers they kinda got boring after the second time and they feel more to pad the    this game is really good

    The game is just awesome! The game design we all know from metroid games is back with a fresh stealth touch that made it so much more fun! Visuals, movement, ambience everything is great! My only complain is with the soundtrack. Despite not being bad, it`s just not so epic as in previous entries. But nothing that change my opinion after all. Metroid dread is a must play!

    Juegazo, el mejor Metroid 2D sin duda. Grandes Mercury Steam. Jugabilidad perfecta, sensacional la tensión de los EMMI, combates frenéticos contra jefes y un inmenso mapa por explorar con un gran arsenal de poderes. Larga vida a Samus!!

    Amazing new entry to the Metroid series. The game play is smooth as silk. The emmi sections are tense and exciting. The bosses offer a decent challenge. You'll likely die a few times but eventually you'll get the pattern down. The story beats are really engaging and add to the story and world without detracting from Samus character.     While playing Metroid Fusion, I often wondered why it was so linear compared to Super Metroid. We see that in Metroid    Metroid Dread is a high octane take on the Metroidvania formula. With new movement options inspired by the Ori games and clear paths to progression, Mercury Steam has taken hints from past Metroidvania's successes and failures to make Metroid Dread the best in the series.

    While playing Metroid Fusion, I often wondered why it was so linear compared to Super Metroid. We see that in Metroid Dread, however, there is an intended, implied route, but it can be broken time and time again.

    Mercury Steam and Nintendo have also done a good job balancing the difficulty of this game, with constant checkpoints and rewarding boss fights. Metroid Dread is a great game for Metroid veterans who try to speedrun the game and for first time Metroidvania players, who want to know what the genre is all about.

    Metroid dread has almost been a religious experience for me. The wait for a continuation of this series has been long but man this game was so good! By al means nothing is perfect, are there other directions i would have wanted the developers to take? Sure, the map isnt as clean as in previous games so you have to take a bit longer watching it. The game is a welcomed return to form without this anoying handholding we are so used to today. Its so satisfying to solve these thing yourself. An absolute epic and a true metroid game. My hope is we wont have to wait as long for the next installment. Now we wait for Metroid Prime 4 and Metroid 6!… Expand

    As a metroid veteran, I think this game is excellent. It's still faithful to the serie but adds nice improvements and quality of life features. Samus is super agile and the action-part of the game is great. The difficulty adds tension and encourages the player to stay aware, it's challenging and rewarding. The story is great too and the EMMIs are a good thing. Plus, the formula has someAs a metroid veteran, I think this game is excellent.     Game super fun when running around figuring out puzzles and what not. Reason why it’s not 10 is THE BOSSES HOLY CRAP!! It get good until bosses, then the game has a big spike in difficulty, especially the final boss. Also I think the damage is a little high on some enemy’s. Overall 9.2, would highly recommend.

    Metroid dread is one of my favorite games of the year. It has extremely tight controls and addicting gameplay. The EMMI robot chases make for strategic movement around the large maps, but i got slightly annoyed of them by the time I reached Dairon. There are also some cool new gadgets that Samus has in her arsenal to make the game feel fresh. My main complaint about this game is it is aMetroid dread is one of my favorite games of the year. It has extremely tight controls and addicting gameplay. The EMMI robot chases make for strategic movement around the large maps, but i got slightly annoyed of them by the time I reached Dairon. My main complaint about this game is it is a little bit short, at 6 hours to complete for me personally, but I am aware that the 2D Metroid games were never very long to begin with. Hard mode can extend your experience if you are interested in dying hundreds of times. The game is already fairly difficult to begin with, and hard mode takes it a little over the top for the average player. Overall, this game makes for a fun experience, and I can recommend it with confidence.… Expand

It’s everything I’ve wanted in a Metroid game after waiting nearly 20 years for a sequel. It takes everything from Samus Returns and improves in it. The environments, the music, the movement, the abilities and the suspense of the unexpected.     As someone who was raised in a family who are such huge nerds of the franchise, I can tell you that Metroid Dread doesn't dissapoint at all. If it's one thing I can say about the game, is that the graphics are excellent, and I was absolutely blown away by how good the game looks. The gameplay was never stale from the hunting secrets, to the E.M.M.I zones, to the bosses , this game didn'tAs someone who was raised in a family who are such huge nerds of the franchise, I can tell you that Metroid Dread doesn't dissapoint at all.     This game is an instant classic. Everything from the gameplay to the graphics, the level design to the story, are all pulled off with such polish and style that it's hard to fully absorb the experience on a single playthrough. This stands as the new best entry in the series

The Boss fights though challenging are very rewarding and the element of horror captured with the EMMI brings out the 'Dread' element. The intrinsic movements and power ups have been so well thought out by the developers of the game, its just all roundPhenomenal 2D adventure game. Beautiful maps, never a dull moment exploring the world with satisfying duels and puzzles to solve. The Boss fights though challenging are very rewarding and the element of horror captured with the EMMI brings out the 'Dread' element.     What a great game, I don't usually give games a 10 but this is easily right behind super Metroid in my eyes and is better than fusion by a lot, my only grudge with the game is that its kind of linear but there is already a ton of sequence breaking you can do which makes up for it

    Desde el primer momento que mueves a Samus sabrás que jugarlo será genial. Es un juego difícil , pero con cada boss superado, secreto descubierto, camino encontrado y retó superado te recompensa el esfuerzo. Y si hay un modos de dificultad. Difícil y Muy difícil, lol. Este juego me recordó todos los juegos anteriores, pero con mecánicas pulidas al extremo. Totalmente recomendable!!

    Let's start with E.M.M.I interactions, The interactions with E.M.M.I's are phenomenal. The developers did a great making the combat tense.     Let's start with E.M.M.I interactions, The interactions with E.M.M.I's are phenomenal. The developers did a great making the combat tense. You barely get a split second to escape if you get caught by an E.M.M.I which makes the E.M.M.I interactions even more interesting.

    The bosses in this game are solid. Take for example the combat with Kraid, the combat is so smooth and joyful yet I barely noticed any frame drops during the combat. Each new boss takes a few attempts to understand the boss but once you get the hang of it, the intense fights are commendable. The boss fights aren't too long, they aren't repetitive (not the soldier bosses), the combat is smooth & intense, the bosses are also not too hard and not too easy. They did a great job striking such a good balance.

    The game slowly opens up making Samus more powerful after each upgrade, unlocking new abilities that Samus didn't have before making the character more powerful and joyful to play. As the game opens up, the Samus's combat abilities increase which allows more ways to tackle a boss/explore.

    The final few minutes of the game is so well implemented. I'm skipping this section to avoid spoiling the good content.

    Overall, Metroid Dread is a very well implemented game. With intense combat, right balance for bosses difficulty, super smooth gameplay and fast combat, great bosses, intense E.M.M.I gameplay, great level designs make this game a masterpiece.    … Expand

    Mercury steam make a great work, they take experience with remake samus return on 3ds and this is the evolution of that game.Initially i was disappointed to see metroid in 2.5d instead of 2d sprite but when i play i think they make a good choise, the visual is very good and the stability and fluidity are fantastic,    Finally after 19 year from the last 2d metroid fusion we have a sequel.

    The Emmi are a good sequence and news, they expande the idea of Sa-X from fusion but make a zone for them instead a sequence.
    The only issue in game some ripetivity of some powerful enemy like chozo warrior or the emmy, For the Emmy i think that was better to make them more different each other than they make.
    For the other i think is one of the best metroid i play is perfect?No but for me the only two metroidvania that are perfect are super metroid and castlevania symphony of the night.    … Expand

Criticisms are mild: The game contains the "energy part" collectibles from OtherGreat followup to Fusion after 19 years with a lot to love and little to dislike. Made by the same devs of Samus Returns on 3ds, they have resolved almost every issue that game had, most elements of this game flow together seemlessly and any longtime or new fan of the series will get great enjoyment out of it. Criticisms are mild: The game contains the "energy part" collectibles from Other M which while this method of gaining health may work in zelda, they feel incredibly out of place in a Metroid game. Speaking of collectibles, this game loves to dangle out of reach collectibles in your face at any opportunity it can, moreso than any other title in the series, which may be to encourage multiple visits to certain areas, but it's still a little jarring. Also without spoiling anything, the game almost feels like it has a case of Spiderman 3 syndrome with its antagonist. But those two criticisms aside, it's a very solid title, the best this series has gotten in over a decade. Definitely worth the price.… Expand

    Stunning presentation and superb controls. Sound design is second to none. My only gripe is the over reliance on the EMMI mechanic which can be a little repetitive. It would have been better with a single EMMI who stalks Samus throughout rather than EMMI "zones''. Also the kind of AI used in Alien Isolation would have been perfect here. If Alien Isolation can run on Switch in full 3DStunning presentation and superb controls. Sound design is second to none.     Es mi tercer Metroid, mi primer contacto con la saga fue el samus return, desde luego el fusion y ahora este y solo puedo decir que buena saga me ha encantado y quiero jugar el resto, si bien puede ser un juego difícil una vez que obtienes bastantes mejoras se hace menos complicado pero no te puedes distraer, me tomo mas de 10 horas y con el 78% ahora voy por el 100% y luego por el modoEs mi tercer Metroid, mi primer contacto con la saga fue el samus return, desde luego el fusion y ahora este y solo puedo decir que buena saga me ha encantado y quiero jugar el resto, si bien puede ser un juego difícil una vez que obtienes bastantes mejoras se hace menos complicado pero no te puedes distraer, me tomo mas de 10 horas y con el 78% ahora voy por el 100% y luego por el modo difícil. Solo puedo decir que es un gran juego, estaré pendiente de la franquicia en el futuro.… Expand

    No soy fan de la saga metroid (de echo solo jugué uno y no recuerdo cual ) pero dios..... Que JUEGAZO que es Metroid Dread, y la verdad es que por las reseñas de la gente lo critican por los gráficos, pero a mi criterio no los veo para nada mal, tiene muchisimas animaciones que estan bien hechas se ve Que realmente le pusieron cariño al juego.
    Respecto a los bajones de FPS solo se notan    No soy fan de la saga metroid (de echo solo jugué uno y no recuerdo cual ) pero dios..... Que JUEGAZO que es Metroid Dread, y la verdad es que por las reseñas de la gente lo critican por los gráficos, pero a mi criterio no los veo para nada mal, tiene muchisimas animaciones que estan bien hechas se ve Que realmente le pusieron cariño al juego.
    Respecto a los bajones de FPS solo se notan en lugares en específico, como lo son elevadores o el transportador, no lastra para nada la experiencia, respecto a su jugabilidad y controles creo que tiene que ver muchisimo con el tipo de jugador que seas, en lo personal al principio me resultó incomodo pero con forme vas progresando en el juego se vuelve mas comodo y respecto a su historia no quisiera spoilear, asi que limitaré a decir que es decente con momentos muy buenos, sin duda no me arrepiento de comprar este juego.    … Expand

    I could go on about the incredible movement, combat and environmental puzzles, I could even go on about the fantastic, minimalist story that does amazing things for both Samus and the Metroid Universe as a whole but all I'm going to say is that it's the best thing I've played all year and maybe even for a few years now.

    I picked up Metroid Dread at GameStop and it’s an easy 10 out of 10. I played 3 hours of super Metroid but otherwise this was my first experience with any type of metroidvania and if you didn’t pick the game up. This is an easy recommendation.

    All this time waiting was honestly worth it. Metroid Dread is easily one of my top games of, especially on the switch. The gameplay is fast paced, but also really smooth and fluid. The control scheme is honestly been the best out of any Metroid game so far, and has improved drastically. The cutscenes are honestly amazing, the boss fights are challenging but really enjoyable, and the storyAll this time waiting was honestly worth it.     The only other metroid game i’ve ever played is other m. it was terrible. fortunately this isn’t other m. it was between this or fc6 and im so glad i picked it. it’s super smooth, and level design blew my mind. sometimes i find it frustrating to backtrack on a level, but that’s it. emmis are terrifying. haven’t had a physical reaction to a game like this in ages.

    Combat and mobility system are by far the best on the 2D saga, you'll just need a little bit of practice to adapt to them, but mastering Samus' abilities aren't that hard.
    If I can find some sort of "excuses" to say it's imperfect, the only two things I'd say are soundtrack (fitting, but a little generic for such saga and music legacy) and linearity from beggining to end (that's debatable, since between beggining and end you have to get back almost always to %100 it)

    Anyway, giving a 10 for those funny kids making review bombing, so I suggest to give back more 10s :D    … Expand

    Um game na qual a exploração é cada vez mais inspiradora. Tudo no cenário pode ter escondido um segredo ou alguma recompensa. Mecânica muito fluida e o combate muito bem polido.

    Metroid has always been my favorite video game franchise. I was happy when Metroid Prime 4 was announced, and was hoping for an update this past E3. I forgot to be disappointed when there was no new Prime news, because Dread was announced! I LOVED this game! I am not the best at games, but I have always loved the challenges the Metroid franchise provides. It pushes me to be better. DreadMetroid has always been my favorite video game franchise.     This game is just phenomenal. The movement and pacing of this game feel just incredible. With powerups to keep you moving forward and the impending doom through the game with each boss getting harder to beat. Overall it just has such a clean polished feel.

The bosses feel like Cuphead bosses in that, they seem super hard, but after a few tries, you can get the pattern down and easily defeat them. The sound design in this game is immaculate.     GOTY for me - first time in probably a decade that i've felt legitimately challenged by a game. I'm a big fan of the series in general though. Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid: Fusion were childhood favorites. It's amazing to return to the series after all these years. Mercury Steam did a great job with the variety of upgrades and skills this time around.

    Absolutley amazing game. It plays super fluently, looks amazing, has an amazing story and atmosphere. Best metroid game in the series. Do think the pacing of the last part of the game was a bit to fast, but thats only a small point and even so its still a 10 for me. Recommended!

The story was also very intriguing and has plenty of twists and turns. Definitely don’t skip this one, even if you’re new to the franchise, it’s worth your time.… Expand

They created something that surpassed Yoshio Sakamoto's original vision (according to himself), exceeds the wildest dreams of every fan and puts the rest of the game industry to shame. This is without a doubt one of the most polished games ever made. It even surpasses all previous mainline Metroid games which were already perfect masterpieces. The graphics are gorgeous and it's unbelievable that this is running on a Nintendo Switch. The game reinvents the genre that Metroid originally created and elevates it to an unbelievably high standard. I was also pleasantly surprised that this game is moving forward and doesn't overuse nostalgia like Disney's new Star Wars movies. By keeping nostalgic moments rare, they actually have a very big impact when they happen in the story. Especially when the Theme of Samus Aran kicks in.
    I recommend everybody to play Metroid Zero Mission, Metroid Samus Returns, Super Metroid, Metroid Fusion and Metroid Dread in this order. You're in for a ride! I also want to ask Nintendo to make the previous games available on the Nintendo Switch for new fans who don't own a Wii U or 3DS.    … Expand

    Game run smooth and playing cool as hell. This is like my memories about old-schoool metroids at ENS and SNES. Map is very handy, some enemies triky but at my current ingame position nothing impossible. EMMI not so hard as i think at start (at least at my position) but it's ok for me. I dont like this type of enemies. But! Ability to kill these folks is amazing!

    This is literally the best Metroid I've played. It doesn't hold your hand. It makes you wonder consistently, "Hey maybe I need to shoot everything in this room" and rewards you for it. The visual elements and ques help you progress gameplay forward. Using Samus's abilities make movement really snappy and fun to use. Finding secret blocks is a fun mechanic that really nails exploration.This is literally the best Metroid I've played. It doesn't hold your hand. Especially, when you randomly shoot walls and BAM you just got another upgrade, you smart boy!

    Fighting bosses can be TOUGH but with enough determination you can learn their attacks and kick some butt. EMMI encounters make you feel the 'dread'. Running away from them is scary and when you finally hide from one, the few moments as the EMMI seeks you out are truly heart-pounding. That feeling of suspense makes those enemies truly terrifying.

    This game gives you rewards for the risk that you put into it, gameplay-wise. It lets you know you can move in it's linear path but let's you explore in between set pieces to find out each map's secrets.

    It's the best Metroid-like game out there. Thank goodness it's actually Metroid.

    *I recommend playing this game with a good sound system at home or with headphones. This game's atmosphere is heightened by the SFX and music. Gameplay also benefits from sound as well since environments and enemies give queues through SFX as well.*    … Expand

    I loved Metroid Fusion, so I had high expectation for Metroid Dread. This game did not disappoint. Best game I’ve player in a while, totally worth $60. It was also fairly difficult, which was great, as some Nintendo games are really really easy.

    Bosses felt like they had a fair learning curve, seeming difficult at first but every boss is animated so that each attack has a distinctive tell that lets you know where and when to move, attack, or counter. The only thing I,'d want to add to this game is a Prime Style logbook to give you more concrete lore on the world but that's just me and has no bearing on the gameplay.

    I was afraid this game would fail because of the mixed opinions of Samus Returns and the clear reuse of mechanics and assets but this title FAR exceeded my expectations.    … Expand

    The reason I'm able to give M:D such a high score is because it doesn't hold back in the slightest. If it's going to punch you, it's going to give you everything it has. Bosses are beautifully crafted and not one single boss has been too easy or lame. Every single one has challenged me, killed me, and forced me to think outside the box to beat them. Each death adds to your skill in ways most other games don't even touch on, even Samus Returns.

    This game is built on the Samus Returns gameplay style. While I really enjoyed SR, M:D takes this engine to a new level. There are numerous quality of life improvements and tons of well thought out mechanics, much more so than SR. If Samus Returns were a food, it would be a hamburger, filling and delicious. If Metroid Dread were a meal, it would be a 3 course at Gordon Ramsay's restaurant. I mean this in every way. A hamburger you eat and you're done. M:D just keep coming and coming and coming and its amazing and terrifiying and beautifully crafted.

    The sound design is so incredibly amazing. Rarely do I find myself in quiet rooms outside the safe area. The ambiance is superb. The soundtrack makes your heart race. When you're in danger, YOU ARE IN DANGER, and the audio beats right along with your poor overencumbered heart. The music and sound design makes this game feel like, "It's GOING," or, "It's HAPPENING!" Moments where you catch your breath are sweet sighs of relief, readying yourself to enter that doorway and get back in the fight or flight again. The only criticism I have on sound is that they reused the heat and lava warning sound from SR. That blaring alarm sounds so low quality next to all the other sounds. They also reused the parry sound, but that fits right in.

    Art. Art is good. This game's got hella art. See the art. Very pretty, much gaze. The graphics, while not the best, still looks incredible. The stylization Nintendo is known for for making lower resolutions look outstanding is here. There are aliasing lines, but I can ignore those.

    Enemies are much more varied than in SR. Each one has its own timing for parry, and some don't even have parry as an option. There seem to be enemy types that all areas abide by, but instead of how they did it in SR where new enemies were just recolors, every area has their own enemy models. Going to a new area and seeing new gnarly toothed floating things of rage is really cool and every zone has enemies that fit it's environment.

    So far the story is phenomenal, and I rarely give stories high praise. I won't say much here because these are spoilers you won't want spoiled. Needless to say, Metroid type s*** is HAPPENING! This game has a lot of cannon. Metroid Fusion is important, being the last mainline 2D Metroid game in the series. Exploring the game later on after a certain event takes place (you'll know what I mean when you get there) is unbelievably cool and nostalgic. Beating my first... uh... certain.... boss... filled me with IMMENSE pride, like I showed it whos boss again and told it to sit tf back down. This story is very well crafted and I hate that I shant say anything more about it. 10/10. This game also has voice acting! And it's good!
    Controls are tight. If you get hit, you are unable to move for a split second. The puzzles in this game are all well thought out and thought provoking. There were a couple spots where I thought I was softlocked but I was just being a big ol stupidhead. Being a veteran of Metroid games, I feel I have been able to find my way through the maze of the map fairly easily, but then again, I think the map design and room placement is also just really good.

    If you like Metroid, have played a 2D Metroid in the past, and have played Samus Returns or Metroid Fusion, this game is for you.

    Just a disclaimer for the weak of heart. This game is named Metroid Dread for a reason. This game will fill you with dread as you watch helplessly as you die. There are zones where you are powerless against the specific type of foe. I joked with one of my friends that this game could have also been called Metroid: Scary or Me

    I have beaten the game and hard mode. If I had one critique it's how your aim locks in the horizontal position even when holding down aim. Makes killing a certain ceiling emmi a bit difficult but not because it's actually hard.

Other reviews here say the controls are clunky and I suspect they either don’t know good controls or have a bad switch controller. I’ve had a great experience with them though. Overall great flow, and you'll hardly get lost, not because the game is easy, far from it. But because it's thoughtfully crafted.     My biggest gripe has to be the music as the OST seemed to be tacked on as an afterthought. Nothing came close to standing out like "Kraid's Lair" or "Brinstar Depths". The story was also told as an exposition dump towards the end of the game instead of slowly feeding it to you over time and I thought that could have been better handled. Without these features addressed, I cannot give Metroid: Dread a 10.

    All in all, a huge round of applause for MercurySteam. I hope to see more of their work in the future and more games starring Samus Aran!    … Expand

    An incredible experience from visuals to story.
    Don't listen to those complaining about price. This game as a triple A price because it has a triple A polish and is worth the price tag.

    Its just bonza! Wow they really made a special game here. Nostalgia is a powerful thing but truly this is on par or better than Super Metroid. The great quality of life improvements and balance of difficulty is just all the right ingredients. Watch out Metroidvania games, the Queen is back!

Les seuls défauts sont: que au niveau des E.M.M.I, ils sont vraiment répétitifs, quasiment identiques dans la formule. Aussi, la raison du pourquoi le jeu a une durée d'environ 10-15 est la difficulté. En effet, on peut passer plusieurs quarts d'heures sur un seul passage technique avec une capacité spécifique afin de rejoindre un endroit aubligatoire au développement du scénario.     The best game since super everything that longtime fans have been waiting for. Master class in game design take notes this is how you make a comeback.

    There are sequence brakes. Their story if you pay attention and for those complaining that the game is too difficult get good

    After almost 20 years we finally have a sequel to the 2D series of Metroid games! Considering that, Dread does a great job of combining the new modern combat with the old elements of research and advancement, and it doesn't hurt that we have some of the best boss fights in the series. A true gem and a must have for all Switch gamers.

    Taking up the torch of a series interrupted nineteen years ago is never an easy task, but the MercurySteam studio is doing it with honors! The developers have chosen the path of security while perfectly respecting the spirit of the previous episodes, to the detriment of true modernity.
