The first-person survival horror aspect of the game doesn’t suffer at all on the Switch. From the visuals, audio, and inputs, everything feels and plays as if the series was made for the console. In fact, it’s a testament that the Switch is more than the sum of its parts. Though there is a loss of some visual fidelity, and some sacrifice made while playing in handheld mode that comes in the form of battery life, Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light feel at home on this hybrid console.

Metro Redux offers up two solid ports for the price of one. The Metro games bring brutal experiences where pure horror awaits you around every corner. Between those breathtaking moments, the titles build a terrific world that I love exploring. There are little complaints on both ends, but none of them make the games uninteresting. That being said, there are long loading times afoot and games are a little on the darker side of things. If you have an eye for detail and are in for terrific time, then both 2033 and Last Night are journeys worth having.

Ultimately, both Metro games are as fresh and engaging as the day they released. Metro 2033 has received several improvements, and it is impressive to see the amount of work that 4A Games put into streamlining mechanics like weapon switching. While Last Light wasn't given anything other than a mild graphical update, this is mostly because the game has always run very well. The upside is that playing through the DLC is just as enjoyable as playing through the standard base game.

Regardless of your feelings on the first two Metro games—which are quite good in their own right—this is a masterful portable collection handled with an expert hand by the games' original developers.

Between 2033 and Last Light, Metro Redux is a must buy for fans of the genre, fans of the medium, and fans of good stories. Metro's script is at times bone chilling, using atmosphere masterfully and showcasing a post-apocalyptic world with a true sense of community. Metro 2033 is the stronger of the two, making better use of both the setting and resource management, but Last Light nonetheless stands out as an incredibly well designed FPS, never lacking in the spirit that made its predecessor so compelling. Played back to back, Metro Redux tells a compelling, chilling story that'll stick with you long after the credits roll.

If you’ve never played Metro 2033 or Metro Last Light before, consider Metro Redux on Switch a mandatory purchase. You deserve it. And if you’ve already played these games but fancy having them available on the go, be aware that they’re perhaps not best played in handheld mode in broad daylight, but don’t let it totally put you off.

Metro Redux is a top-notch first-person survival horror package that delivers countless hours of thrilling stealth combat all wrapped up in a superb story. These are two of the most atmospheric games you'll likely play set in a beautifully detailed depiction of post-apocalyptic Russia. 4A Games has delivered a port that stands shoulder to shoulder with Alien: Isolation as the very best we've seen on Switch so far – an almost flawless experience which should absolutely be right at the top of any FPS or survival horror fan's must-buy list. This is essential stuff.

A very impressive port of two games that still feel different 10 years later. The lighting is a problem in handheld mode, but in an indoor setting it's a great way to play the series.

If you don't have any technical fetishes, the two Metro on Switch are highly recommended.

Metro redux is yet another great AAA porting for Nintendo Switch. Apart of some technical compromises, it's capable of excellent hours of fun and bullets.

The arrival of the Metro series to a Nintendo platform may have been delayed an entire console generation, but its arrival on the Nintendo Switch came at an opportune time. The conductor is ready to punch your ticket to ride, and it is a ride worth boarding. With interesting characters, a moody setting, and strong gameplay variety, Metro Redux can establish itself as one of the premier first-person shooter releases on the Nintendo Switch.

Metro Redux on the Nintendo Switch doesn't bring anything totally new to these much-loved titles, but it's surprisingly entertaining to play Metro 2033 and Last Light out and about.

At the same time, however, there is no big reason not to get Metro on Switch. It holds up fine, looks good enough even when being displayed on a TV, and is perfectly playable on a controller. If the Switch is someone's main console, Metro Redux is a phenomenal bundle that suffers negligible drawbacks from its port.

Well done 4A Games: both Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light (Redux version) are now perfectly enjoyable on the little-big Nintendo console.

Metro Redux is an excellent port on Switch. Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light gives us the same intense, strong and demanding experience. Metro has focused on survival horror with an unforgettable narrative. Now you can play Redux at subway... but be careful in your journey.

The ports of Metro 2033 and Metro Last Light Redux on Switch are really surprising from a technical point of view. The gloomy and overwhelming feeling of the scenarios conflicts with the portability of the Nintendo console, but this should be considered as an invitation to play after dark...

This is a wonderful port that has a lot going for it, but it’s still probably the worst version of the game unless you're determined to play in Handheld Mode despite the lighting issues that come with doing so, or you really love gyro controls. You'll still have a great time with the conversion, and I commend 4A games for translating these games so well, but you will be making a trade-off. If the Switch is your only option to play Metro Redux, though, I can recommend conversion without hesitation. There's nothing else quite like it on the system.

4A Games delivers an impressive port of two competent shooters, visually settled between the originals and the Redux versions for One or PS4.

Metro Redux is yet another triumphant port for the Nintendo Switch, presenting a duo of brilliant survival horror shooters to an audience who might have never experienced them before. While they've been burdened with noticeable visual compromises, they still look and perform competently enough that you'll hardly notice the difference.

We couldn’t have asked for better versions on Switch. Both games still hold up very well, and from a technical point of view they look incredible on Nintendo’s console.

Metro Redux is one of my favorite shooters on the market. The survival horror aspect, while not quite taken far enough for my liking, still provides a fantastic setting to explore. While there is almost nothing revolutionary about these games, what's present is of a high caliber. If you're a fan of shooters, I'd certainly recommend adding this to your library.

Both Metro 2033 and Last Light play great on Nintendo Switch, but some elements and game mechanics feel outdated. Nintendo Switch version runs at 30 fps and doesn´t reach 1080p resolution.

The Metro games preserve all their qualities on Switch: efficient FPS with a gripping atmosphere, extremely interesting lore with its share of action, survival and stealth. They also come with their flaws such as the aging graphics, a sometimes limited AI and confusing controls. On TV, the console struggles to display graphics that are far from current standards. They lack definition, finesse and detail. In portable mode, the darkness in the tunnels of the Moscow metro makes it difficult to see on the small screen. If you only have the Switch and you don't know the Metro license, go for it. If you have a PC, PS4 or Xbox One and you don't know the Metro license, choose these platforms instead.

The games are beginning to approach their sell-by-date, but the impressively oppressive post-apocalyptic atmosphere still has plenty of appeal.

The tension and atmosphere were really good, the gameplay and acting were relatively sub par. The story shone in these games, directing you ahead with a seemingly single minded goal. Then suddenly you realise there was more to the game and the subtle choices you make along the way can change the ending. After playing these games I really want to read the books as the story is really what kept me playing. If anything, my curiosity is satisfied and I honestly recommend checking it out of the story interests you. And with an enticing price of $69.95, the value isn’t too bad considering remasters these days are being sold at full price. Yet here is two games for less than the price of one. If you’re looking at metro as an action game, I’d recommend against it.

While the games themselves are fairly solid, nothing about them stands out quite enough to warrant purchasing them again unless you are a die hard fan of the franchise. Given that Metro Exodus only released last year and follows as a direct sequel to Last Light, your money might be better spent jumping into the latest entry in the series than revisiting something 10 years old.
