Sorry but this game is really awful. I don't understand how both Media and User score get pass 7.
This is at best a mobile game quality without miscrotranscation.
Terrible combat mechanic, horrible emeny desgin, repeated action modules for both heroes and bosses, extremely boring mission design and a lot of aimless farming.
For Marvel Comics fans only! Not even MCU fanboys.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. If you want to play a game where every major character from every Marvel movie you've seen makes an appearance and basically replaying the entire plotline of the endgame movie then this is the game for you. The build up has you going to each of the movie universes and meeting the movie characters The story sticks so close to the theme of the movies that there is no original thought whatsoever. The plot itself is so full of holes as to be borderline stupid. Take for example the end battles where you are fighting enemies who hold the stones. You have some too but unlike the evil guys you evidently can't use them. Why not? I have no idea other than a convenient combat choice.

The combat itself is a far cry from the original MUA games and, honestly, an insult. The difficult bounces around every battle. Some battles you'd wade through no problem other battles you die many, many times. Why? Convenient combat choice or bad balancing. You decide. Every boss battle is basically the same gimmick with different assets but the difficult is all over the place. Team Ninja doesn't know how to balance a Marvel game and hopefully will never again try. This is just plain bad and should have never gotten through whatever QA they had. This has nothing to do with the characters you pick, the power combos you use or anything else. This is just bosses with attacks that take away 1/3 of your health per hit irrelevant of what level you're at, spawn minions who decimate you in seconds and take almost no damage from any attacks you have. On countless occasions our "extreme" attacks were 150K+ and it barely scratched the bosses health. Boss battles are just really boring combat sequences that drag on and on.

The camera controls are downright atrocious. Normally I'd say this is because of differences in platforms but this game only came out for the Switch so how can it not work. Countless occasions in the middle of battle my character was offscreen and I couldn't get them back onscreen while my partner was attacking someone. The camera also bounces all over the place while fighting. Countless occasions I'm trying to throw something and the camera changes distance or focus as I start to throw causing a miss.

This game is a Marvel movie brawler with no real meat, horrible combat mechanics, bullet sponge bosses, overly complex RPG elements that serve no useful purpose and difficulty spikes that are unacceptable in modern games. I would rather go back and play the remastered originals with their bad graphics and bugs then see this game be given a sequel. The only plus side to this game is that my son and I were able to play it together as we have the previous 2 games.

All the bosses are same, they don’t have any unique pattern that require you to come up with a new strategy each time you face them, it’s just boring button smashing all the time. Another problem is the graphics. I mean this game costs $90 CAD here including tax and we all saw switch can run games like Witcher 3, Doom, Alien Isolation so I don’t know what caused developers to make this game look like a mobile game. I would give this game 6/10 if it costed around 15-20 CAD but for 90 CAD it deserves 2/10 max. and that’s because it has decent cutscenes, even though the game shows you different characters in each cutscene, not the characters you picked which ruins the immersion. I regretted my purchase. I don’t recommend this game to anyone. Expand

All heroes play the same way. All enemies are the same with different skins. Progression is stupid. You just buff generic stats for EVERY HEROE IN YOUR ROSTER. Specials must be really awesome, but I could not say, since the screens fills with so much sparks, glares and numbers that you really have no idea who used the special or what it actually did. There are some good dialogues, but other than that, the story is really shallow and clichê. I wanted to quit the game halfway through it, but out of respect for my money, and finished it (and uninstalled right away). Glad I didn't buy the season pass. Expand

The camera is never where you want it to be, it's zoomed out WAAAAYYYY to far and it's only controllable by the player, sometimes. I'm playing on a 70" TV and I can't see my character so forget about playing on the switch itself.

There is an alliance enhancement system in the game that you can use to upgrade your team throughout the game. Well that doesn't actually so anything, it's just a thing you do that has no actual effect on your team. I forgot this was a system in the game and had never speced any points until I was more than half way through the game. I specced out 3 entire hexes and it changed nothing. I did the same damage, enemies died just as slowly. The only redeeming factor is that you get to play as so many iconic Marvel characters. Just save your money or pick it up for a massive discount.

I do like a challenge but when it comes boss fights, the stagger bar just makes the game repetitive and unfun. The boss stands there zapping you while you hit him or her over and over again and do no damage until the stagger bars breaks then after 3 good hits in, his stagger meter is filed back up repeating the same thing over and over for 30 minutes. They also added unblockable attacks and 1 hit KOs that can't be dodged or blocked (which is spammed over and over in the boss fight) for the boss's of the game. I always took this game for the casual player but looks like even MUA is getting sucked into the Esport, statistic stat, repetitive, rpg, cash grab. This is not league of legends I just want to relax and play a **** game not nerd out over it. I uninstalled the game and wont be buying the next one. The story plays like a badly written Infinity War fanfic, the ISO menu will totally drain your enthusiasm to progress your gems as it is genuinely a clusterf*** to navigate with unnoticeable effect on gameplay buffs. If you enjoy alternate costumes you are out of luck for anything added in the base game as its all just pallet swaps.

Some boss battles will have you fighting for ages before you realise you are meant to lose anyway, artificially prolong what little gameplay there actually is. The camera is the hardest boss you'll fight in the game as it likes to angle itself in corners so you can't see wtf is happening to your heroes.

Basic enemies will stun lock you while your attacks do nothing. I've seen a tissue box do more damage than the punches thrown by the avengers in this game.

The DLC has made me feel like i've wasted my money. with each DLC just being rehashed content of what was originally there. Call it "Danger Room" call it "Gauntlet" call it "Infinity Rift" it is all the exact same thing and it's near criminal for the asking price. No new story, just more boss rushes with a new coat of paint.

The effort gone into this game is laughable and just feels like a ported mobile game. Just because it's Marvel doesn't mean it gets a free pass.

Controls- C- It's hard to understand how they thought this was adequate for a supposed A+ game. Half the time you need to resort to button smashing and even then you will end up getting hit over and over trying to simply do a quick attack. Frustrating to play against large groups of foes because the controls are just so poorly laid out and un-intuitive, you end up at a loss when it comes to figuring out what to do.

Game play C: Average game play at best, which is sad for what this franchise has brought before. This is by the far the least enjoyable, because it simply does not have the qualities of it's predecessors. Finishing the first and second area are a chore and feels more like work than an enjoyable activity. Marvel Heroes had better game play in my opinion and that's really sad when it can be overshadowed by a game like that. This doesn't even take into account the atrocious, I mean absolutely crappy camera that's in this game, not just in coop either, but in solo and online multiplayer as well. Just so bad.

Graphics C: It's a switch game, so I wasn't expecting much, however the graphics are just not there. The individual paper dolls on the menu screen are great, however the characters in the game look like something out of cheap Sunday morning cartoon, more than they do an actual comic book. The effects are cheap too... resembling more like blobs of light than actual explosions.

Story C-: I don't know what I was expecting, but certainly not this. The story is not believable and at times it just feels like things are forced. I wish they had taken an actual story arch and used that, rather than this mishmash of stories that just don't work. Again, not what you expect from an A tier franchise.

Overall: I would give the game a D, simply because, even though individually there are higher scores, nothing works well together. It's like putting a pro soccer, basketball, and baseball player on a Football team and expecting it to work. Individually they may be good at what they do, but they don't work well as a football team, and this doesn't work well as a game. Skip this game until it goes on sale. It's definitely not worth the $59.99 they're asking for right now.

Great character selection...to go into dumb laser timing puzzles, paper enemies to kill with no character individuality of your own, broken up by boss battles that cheese your party to death and bring your game progress to a halt. 1. TERRIBLE camera

    2. Linear progression.. Xmen legends had items, stat raising, unlockable effects and passives within abilities.. What does this game have? Nothing of that sort.. You have 4 basic abilities and you just upgrade them to do more damage or cost less MP. There's also the ISO system which gives you pointless and unimpactful buffs to your characters (2% more resilience, 4% more attack, etc)

    3. Boring and rehashed abilities. There are 5 types of spells in the game that are shared across every character with just different particles. It's either a charge attack, a long projectile, a rapid slashing move or an AoE. There's literally no creativity here.

    4. Combat is very reliant on synergy moves that are impossible to pull off most of the time, either due to lack of visibility on screen or just the very small time window that it gives you to perform it. Elite enemies and bosses require heavy use of that mechanic and it basically ruins the flow and overall enjoyment.

I can keep going about stuff like the garbage aiming mechanic, the fps drops and brainless team A.I. but I'll just stop here. This is not a 60$ game and I wouldn't even suggest people to buy at half price. It hurts to see an amazing RPG like X-men legends been downgraded into a button mashing mobile game.

Our beloved IP has now landed in the hands of Team Ninja, a Japanese studio famous for their fighting game franchise: Dead Or Alive.

Have they done Marvel Ultimate Alliance 1, justice?

Gods no, this spin-off is trash in comparison. They've removed every single RPG element and aspect that made MUA 1 so legendary and have replaced it with linear progression, sub-par, absolute basic build options, a gimmicky objective based tournament-esque gamemode (Infinity Rifts) that are more of a chore to complete than an end-game (Ha! What end-game?) activity and my Gods, the combat.

Welcome to the worst combat MUA has ever seen. They've torn off the melee combo badge of honor and replaced it with a tedious Japanese-esque ARPG combat animation of "Punch, Kick, I'mma pull out my gun", which has inadvertently led to the abandonment of support skills and extra skills to be mixed and matched with each other. We get flashy melee without the sweeps, stuns and aerials, and boring skills that are the same garbage, carbon copied onto every other hero of their same type in the roster (Daredevil and Wolverine's "Tap the same boring button with the exact same animation to unleash our mediocrity skill" skill, for example).

They couldn't have made it so much more innovative by providing us with a whole host of original, expertly animated suite of skills to add and remove at our leisure? No builds? I'm fed up with this. Team Ninja don't deserve the Marvel Ultimate Alliance IP. There's no love invested in this game, no Marvel fans creating a game for Marvel fans.

    We lack:

    Lore trivia
    Side quests
Simulation discs for even more lore
    Silver Surfer
    Hubs for chills and recuperation
    Dialog options
    Victor Von Doom
    Hero Gear
Literally everything that makes MUA 1 a God amongst ARPGs (it does have its flaws, I can't suck its peen all day, tbh)

We get mediocrity. More than 10 years we've been waiting, to be able to play as Frank Castle. What did we receive? Knife knife shotgun. His heavy is a fully automatic pistol, a burst-shot rifle and an underbarrel grenade launcher.

Again, to return to an earlier point: basic melee exists to be functional, SKILLS exist to be FLASHY.

Frank didn't deserve this. They slaughtered our boy

0/10. For any MUA fan, this is an absolute travesty. It has actually taken the place of MUA 2 as worst UA game ever made. For Marvel fans in general? You get a large roster at least.

Also, Team Ninja never respond to tweets (regardless of whether you use Japanese or English). Very poor effort on their Social Media team.

I couldn’t die, but it would have taken an hour to win the fight. Even though I beat Sandman on the first try, I had the same feeling. Go shoot him with a gun for ten minutes (where you can’t dodge his attacks so he just knocks you away constantly), then hit him for four seconds while he stunned, and then back to ten minutes of shooting the gun. Wash, rinse, and repeat about a dozen times. Snore. I never imaged Team Ninja would design such a dog **** combat system, but I guess everybody just phones in their work when they know Marvel fans are just going to buy anything with the logo on it (myself included, in this case, sadly). As a whole, Ultimate Alliance 3 is an immensely enjoyable game that really reminded me how much I love Marvel’s wealth of characters. The roster is huge, the combat is gratifying, and it all looks slick running on Switch either docked or in handheld mode. There are some blemishes in terms of player progression, a bland soundtrack, and the unwieldy camera, but it’s nothing that should stop anyone from going out and giving Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: The Black Order a download.
