The idea is very original and it works pretty well. The car is nice, but the wheels can quickly get dirty and stop doing their job right. The AR works well, although the camera of the car is a bit poor, and it can lag if your circuit is too long (then you have to walk behind your car so it's not too far away from the console). It's better with long circuits of course, so you must have quite a big place to play. Also it's a shame that you have to buy at least two complete sets to play in multiplayer.
But it's still a funny and original game, very unique.

    i would give this a 50%
it is a pretty good game it is over price and i bet that the price is going to drop down fast, you can not really grade this because this is a type of game where there is nothing to be graded besides the price and that it works well.

This game I find to be fun, I think Nintendo put the technology to good use. The idea of turning your house into a Mario Kart track was amazing. Plus there is a ton of customization with what gates hold items or problems. You can also change the number of laps, the speed at which you are going, and even the music, which comes from other Mario Kart games. The game also has multiplayer. I have never experienced it, but from videos on YouTube, it looks like a blast to play with friends and family. Now that's all fun and games, however, we have to address some elephants in the room. First, this game cost $100, which is way too expensive, maybe $60-80 dollars would've been a least somewhat forgiving, but 100???? The next is that not everyone can play this game, most people don't have the space to play it. That wipes out a large number of players who wanted this game. And it's not like you can send the game outside, the bloody sun will make it impossible to see anything. So yeah, this game is fine, but only if you can play the game, which for most people isn't the case. That is a massive problem. Expand

I recently tried out Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit and it was a fun experience. The game brings the classic Mario Kart races to life in your own home with the use of remote control cars and augmented reality. It was exciting to race around my living room and navigate through obstacles, but I did find that the controls were a bit difficult to get used to at first. The game also requires a good amount of space to set up and play, so it may not be suitable for everyone's living situation. Overall, I would give Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit a 6 out of 10 rating. It's a unique and entertaining addition to the Mario Kart franchise, but it does have its limitations. Expand

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit has brought my sons more smiles than any other toy I've ever bought them. [Issue #49 – November/December 2020, p. 63]

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is one of the best case studies in augmented reality I’ve seen yet, at least as far as pure entertainment is concerned. It’s the Mario Kart you know and love, but with your home as the course—something that could have easily fallen flat or come across as a shallow gimmick, but instead manages to hit every note near-flawlessly. There’s nothing quite like racing around your own living room, throwing shells every which way and hitting those boost pads while weaving through your furniture and trying to dodge the cat that keeps trying to catch your kart.

It's definitely an expensive purchase, but if you're willing to spend the money, it provides a unique AR gaming experience like no other. The software works well as long as you're near enough to the kart as it races through the track.
