I understand the idea Nintendo is doing with Mario Kart, and it's a great idea. It's enjoyable, and fun. This is a very good way to get creative and Nintendo did that very well with Mario Kart Live.

Rare game but once you play it is a lot of fun. I really like the fact that it turns your house into a Mario Kart course which makes you sometimes forget that there is an actual kart racing inside your house.

This is an amazing idea, that really encourages to get creative, especially if there isn't a whole lot of space like in my case. I really have to applaud Nintendo for this idea. The racing against the AI is also as fun as always and just driving through the house with the kart gives you this interesting new perspective of your home from a tiny kart. It's amazing and I love it.

Some littlz annoyances, but your brain is here for avoiding them !

Another reason I am giving this game a 9 out of 10 is the kart itself. It's pretty durable, being able to collide with a gosh darn ladder and not get a dent or scratch. The thing is the power. The stuff you have to buy (the box itself) comes with a USB-C cord for you to charge the kart. The thing is, it's really short. If you want a longer cord, just use the cord that comes with a charging grip. Turning off the kart is a hassle, because you have to hold down the ignition button. The game, including all issues, gets a solid 9/10 from me. Expand

The other problem is that the content just gets boring after a while, it just feels like a prototype device that needs polishing. Making tracks are also a pain, it takes way too long and too long-winded. Oh yeah and you can break the game entirely too easily, if you knock a gate down, you ruin the entire course, if you crash into a wall, you damage it and gotta pay that $150 to buy a new one. I just feel that this is underpolished and a waste of money. Expand

I have never experienced it, but from videos on YouTube, it looks like a blast to play with friends and family. Now that's all fun and games, however, we have to address some elephants in the room. First, this game cost $100, which is way too expensive, maybe $60-80 dollars would've been a least somewhat forgiving, but 100???? The next is that not everyone can play this game, most people don't have the space to play it. That wipes out a large number of players who wanted this game. And it's not like you can send the game outside, the bloody sun will make it impossible to see anything. So yeah, this game is fine, but only if you can play the game, which for most people isn't the case. That is a massive problem. Expand

The thought of designing your own physical race tracks inside your own house makes for a simple but exciting creative aspect to the experience which is a lot of fun, and when you are actually playing the game and see your all-familiar home in a different perspective makes you feel bizarrely amazed, while at the same time enjoying the race game.

The RC kart while it is somewhat more expensive than any other RC toy available out there, it is very well built as it can withstand most obstacle collisions, it also looks good to be a cabinet display rather than in the box it came from, not to mention that a software game is specifically made to work with it making this RC toy somewhat smart (it has many sensors), and is very responsive at that. controlling the RC on your Switch device feels just right, no lags, no delays, though there can be some interference with the wireless connectivity (which can't be helped depending on how large your track and obstacles are) at times.

I only have one Mario Live Kart unit right now, but I am willing to buy a second one (Luigi ver.) to further extend the fun to another player. Don't get me wrong even non-players can still enjoy watching the tangible race action on the sidelines.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I think Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is a very fun idea. I like that the game is both physical and digital. The physical aspect allows the person or people playing to be creative by creating an unlimited number of custom courses. This is a nice feature because in other Mario Kart games you are racing on the same tracks over and over. Eventually, you could get tired of those tracks. It is nice that the kart does not have to go directly from gate to gate because that would not make for a very exciting track. You can have the car make turns or loops before passing through the next gate. It is good that this game's tracks don't need a lot of room. Tracks can be created for a small apartment or a large area. Something I would change about the physical aspects of the game is the gates and arrow signs being made out of cardboard. I would make them out of plastic like the car so they are a bit more durable. I also like how the kart speeds up and stops based on what is happening on the Nintendo Switch screen. If you get a mushroom from an item box when you use it digitally the real kart will also speed up. I also like that the real kart has the reaction of stopping when it has been hit by something digitally. It is cool that the actual karts speed depends on the race class that is selected. I think it was smart to have the game include twenty-four grand prix races with built in obstacles. I like that like in other Mario Karts there is the digital option of customizing your kart and character. This digital customization shows up on the screen. You can also add different obstacles digitally to the gates of your custom courses. I think it would be cool for the company to have different physical pieces for the kart and character. Maybe even obstacles. It is also cool that other people can bring their kart and race with you on your course. They can see their kart's view and can control it from their Nintendo Switch. I think this is a great game that by adding a couple improvements could be even better. Expand

Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit is one of the best case studies in augmented reality I’ve seen yet, at least as far as pure entertainment is concerned. It’s the Mario Kart you know and love, but with your home as the course—something that could have easily fallen flat or come across as a shallow gimmick, but instead manages to hit every note near-flawlessly. There’s nothing quite like racing around your own living room, throwing shells every which way and hitting those boost pads while weaving through your furniture and trying to dodge the cat that keeps trying to catch your kart.

It's definitely an expensive purchase, but if you're willing to spend the money, it provides a unique AR gaming experience like no other. The software works well as long as you're near enough to the kart as it races through the track.
