Mar 26, 2019It’s hard to imagine anything here sticking with you much beyond when you’re playing it. You’re sure to enjoy Mages of Mystralia while you’re playing it — and if you’re a fan of isometric RPGs, it’s certainly worth thinking about playing it — but I can’t imagine it’ll stick with you once you put the controller down.

Dec 28, 2018Magic has never been as flexible as in Mages of Mystralia. Thanks to its spell creation system, we will have a complete customization in our way of playing through a beautiful story full of enemies and plot twists that will leave us wanting more.

Feb 20, 2019Mages of Mystralia is an incredible little indie title that offers surprisingly deep gameplay mechanics, that offer some nice replay-ability to a campaign that keeps it short and simple.
-
Mar 12, 2019A charming adventure game with a fun spell crafting system. It is a lot of fun to play for the first few hours but suffers due to repetitive combat and a touch of poor pacing. Nevertheless, Mages of Mystralia is a fun one if you need something on the lighter side of things.
-
Mar 5, 2019Mages of Mystralia is far from a good game, but it fits perfectly on a Nintendo Switch. Monotonous gameplay and puzzles are overshadowed by the sheer number of spell combinations.
-
Jan 11, 2019Overall, even with its noticeable flaws, Mages of Mystralia gets by on its charm and spell-slinging. It's a simple title and it's short, but that doesn't change the fact its still fun more often than its not. On the Switch, it's exactly the kind of game that can make a long trip feel much shorter.

Jan 9, 2019Not everyone will have the same aversion to the combat style utilized in Mages of Mystralia, but on a personal level I felt that it overshadowed the rest of the experience. To get the most out of the gameplay the focus will need to be on the spell crafting, a unique and clever mechanic the developer deserves praise for. If you have a higher tolerance for cheap deaths than I do, it’s possible you could enjoy this action-adventure title much more than I did.
-
Jan 29, 2019Mages of Mystralia's spellcrafting system is a distinctive, signature mechanic. The appeal of the game lies in keeping things just interesting enough to compel the player forward in a colourful setting – finding new runes to unlock new spell possibilities, dropping new story beats to bread-crumb the fantasy plot along. Rewarding puzzles and memorable bosses round out an enjoyable adventure that, even at a leisurely pace, can be explored in under 10 hours, but Mages of Mystralia really could have used some tweaking in its travel and combat, and ends up feeling merely good, rather than great.

Jan 28, 2019The combat is fine enough, but the puzzles are the things I thought were the best parts of the game and the ones that really stand out as something I’d like to go back to. They were fun and engaging and by far the best part and if there was more focus on them, I’d be singing praises. But uninteresting lore and shrug-worthy combat separated those bits, and just left me longing for a version of this game I could enjoy more.
