Little Town Hero is a refreshing take on the turn-based RPG genre, with gorgeous visuals, a perfect soundtrack, and endearing characters. If the tedium of combat was tuned a bit, this would be a 10 out of 10 hands down.

This Game Freak game might not be for everyone, but if you’re looking for an adorable aesthetic amped up by hardcore CCG-inspired combat, Little Town Hero might be made specifically for you, because it seems like it’s that way for me.

Despite its performance issues and its vast complexity, Little Town Hero offers a fresh and deep combat system, a good story and an artistic section that stands out mainly for the successful compositions of Toby Fox and Hitomi Sato.

Little Town Hero is a masterclass in experimenting with genre. It does have some technical issues on the surface, but underneath that is a beautiful, complex game packed with charm, depth, and most importantly, fun. It won't be for everybody, but if you like card-based RPGs, you're bound to have a great time.

Representing yet another step forward for the RPG genre, Little Town Hero brings something fresh and engaging to the table. It perhaps needs more polish, but Game Freak are on to something special here and a sequel would be welcomed.

Despite having a battle system that, while interesting, can feel at odds with the rest of the game’s tone, Little Town Hero is a delightful, small-scale adventure that will calm and charm you with its serene setting, fun characters and joyful presentation.

Little Town Hero is a curious hybrid between a JRPG and a Heartstone-style card game. It’s not for everyone, but its combat system is really noteworthy.

It’s the type of game that makes you feel clever for doing exactly what it’s designed to allow, and that’s always a great time. [Impressions]

The rpg aspects might as well be in name only, and even then, fighting quickly gets repetitive and is far too luck based.

The main game is also flooded with too many systems to keep track of, and just bogs the game down as a whole.

The story is unimpressive and small in scope, and while that isn’t a bad thing in its own, it adds to the feeling of lackluster design present in the game already.

The music by Toby Fox is the game’s only real redeeming quality
