A frustrating and disappointing experience from start to finish. The moments meant to generate tension were spoiled by imprecise controls and a static camera (particularly combat) Having a secondary character was under-utilised and puzzles involving her were shallow and boring. The story is also a bit too obtuse and left me with little desire to replay it. Hopefully Tarsier learn from this.

The good thing: The mood. The game looks like Tim Burton horror. The characters look like those stop-motion models. Their design is excellent and spooky. The environment is also very atmospheric, and really uses the perspective of a scared little child very well. Everything around you feels oppressive and huge, while you feel small and insignificant. However, it's not really scary (with scarce exceptions). It's really good at establishing a dark atmosphere, but I never felt really frightened. The story is told without dialogue, and is very strong. I won't spoil the ending, but the last chapter is really epic. And the sound is well made, centered around a theme from a music box.

The bad thing: The gameplay. The controls are BAD. They are so imprecise and delayed that you'll die often just due to bad controls. For example, you can't even jump and grab something midair, you have to hold the "grab" button on the ground, and then jump. And then, the game has the audacity to require precise movement in certain sections, so you just die a dozen times before you get a lucky run. Some people argue that bad controls make a horror game scarier and better. I'd say they make it less scary, because a section becomes boring if you are forced to repeat it a couple of times. And bad controls are a big no-no for any platformer, and this game is one.
The level design often made me wonder where to go or what to do next when there was no puzzle intended! The puzzles are average.

I can't really recommend it for the Switch. Due to its hardware limitations, the graphics are a little washed out. Although it's short, I would say it's not worth your time.

Controls are horrendous. Have you ever had that feeling that you absolutely know what you're supposed to do and you know exact buttons you should press, but you still fail to progress? If not you'll get it here. Character is quite slow to react to input and most important parts of the require you to move quickly.
Camera angles? Nah, just one angle that often doesn't work.
Fighting? Why does it even exist in this type of game? Some of the enemies you hit every time, the others are on a completely different timing and you'll miss and die.
As for dying - do I REALLY need to be sitting and stuck in the animation for 3-4 seconds after each infuriating death due to controls? Not being able to quickly try again makes you want to throw your gamepad into a wall.

Spare yourself and watch some lets play, you'll enjoy the game a lot more

Instead of a hungry girl, you play as a bag boy, this is a solo 2d horror platforming game, though you do have a companion from time to time to help you through this world..
Much more than the original, Little Nightmares 2 feels like Limbo Meets Unravel, meets outlast… the formula is basically the same from the original, go forward, solving very simple trial end error environmental puzzles, and ocassionally dealing with creepy enemies, hiding under desks, doing suspenseful chase sequences, flashing lights to make these creepy manachins freeze, little nightmares 2 is miles more terrifying than the first, its creepy, does a great job at giving you new and fresh environemnts to play through, unforgettable monsters for the first half of the game.. the second half is pretty weak, but the strength of the rest of the game makes up for it..
This is 5 and a half hourss worth getting through
Little Nightmares 2 is great, its unsettling, a horror experience that much like the first will last with oyu.

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is about as good as any of us could have hoped. It improves on everything the first game did well and even adds some new features. Giving a game a 10 is rare for me, but keep in mind that anything I rate is relative to it's genre and other similar games. With that in mind, this game is about as perfect as horror in this format can be.

GRAPHICS AND SOUND: LNII is a beautiful looking game, truly. It really feels like Pixar made a disturbing horror game in its look. From dark rooms with a flashlight to sweeping vistas of this broken world, everything looks incredible. I think this is one of the better LOOKING games recently released. Of course it isn't going for realism exactly, but the art style and lighting will have you amazed...even more so because most of us weren't likely expecting a graphical beauty in an indie side scrolling horror. The sound is just as important and just as well done. The sound (and often lack thereof) does a wonderful job of instilling terror as you creep along through buildings and wondering what nightmarish abomination is responsible for whichever noises you're being subjected to at that moment.

PLOT: Games like this are hard to review in terms of story-quality because everything else is so well done that the game would be amazing with any plot, it doesn't impact the actual experience of playing very much. For what it's worth, I do quite enjoy the implied story from LN, the DLC, V-LN and now LNII...it is a great mix of disturbing, depressing and dark with a dash of whimsy that gives the series such a unique style. While we do work with Six as a friend, our new hero is equally compelling (Or as compelling as one can get in these near silent protagonists). Seeing these two work together to survive the hellscape of a world they live in offers some sweet and endearing moments for our heroes. Both are loveable despite saying nothing and the teamwork element added is a great addition. We all know that TRUE stars are the abominations that make up the "People" of this world. In that, the second game has improved wonderfully (surprising due to the 1st game's quality monsters). You will constantly be wondering "Ok, now that I've escaped that place, what in GOD'S NAME could these sick lunatics they throw at me to top that?!" and they keep topping it, don't worry. As with every horror game i've played, the horror lets up towards the end to give you a "Final Boss". That's not really a con, since it's ubiquitous in the genre...every RE game stops being scary when the more absurd monsters come around in late game. This game maintains it's horror for a much higher percentage than most, basically until the last area, the tense nature doesn't let up. Even that is an achievement in the genre.

GAMEPLAY: The most important aspect of any game and, thankfully, an area where LNII shines. The platforming, physics, puzzles and the newly added COMBAT (Yes, they added combat) all feels weighty and realistic...like, every jump/throw/grab feels very REAL...idk exactly how to articulate it, but heft/weight behind player actions in video games goes a LONG way in terms of immersion (For me at least). You FEEL like you're in Mono's shoes because every action feels like it is actually happening in a physical world. I am probably poorly articulating that concept, but it is often a big factor in a game's quality to me.
So yes, there IS combat. It is about as simple as can be, with Mono swinging an ax/pipe he finds in a single arch. The weapons are so proportionally large that Mono can't swing quickly and needs to reset. it's combat, sure, but only in its SIMPLEST form. Overall, I feel it was a positive addition. There are instances where it feels annoying and artificially difficult (It's just timing hits on small, zippy enemies with weird attack animations). The only somewhat challenging parts of the game were during a couple fights due to being outnumbered or needing to time multiple hits.
While it is a puzzle/platformer at it's heart, it's far from a "challenging" game. The puzzles are unique and creative, but nowhere near a true mental challenge. But that simply isn't the point of this game. Some parts are tough enough to make them tense and any harder would detract from the horror elements. They struck a nice balance.
The tense, stressful and disturbing parts of this game are the highlights. The new "People" you meet are even more disturbing than any others in previous games, and that's saying something (The Doctor and The Teacher are particularly horrific). The horror is tense, stressful and largely unique to this series. While the jarring frights of games like RE2 remake, Outlast or Amnesia may be more "scary" in a traditional sense, no other game has manufactured the outright DISTURBING and unsettling vibe that LNII had.
I rate this a 10 because It's a perfect for what it is. Yes, it's too short, but the price reflects that and it's only "short" because I wanted more of a great thin

There were so many times when I tried to "swing and jump" and "jump and grab", but the game just won't properly register my control inputs. It became unbearable during the hospital level with those mannequins and I gave up. Not worth my time.

I often hear complaints about the controls, but in my opinion they feel identical to the first game. Sure they can be a little tricky at times, but they’re tolerable and don’t affect how much you enjoy the game. I would have given a 10/10 if not for the length. The first Little Nightmares was longer by atleast an hour, maybe two. And the first one also came with a free DLC which added another hour. There is a DLC for this game, but they are charging another $6.99 for it on top of the original $39.99 for the base game. Considering the games high price tag, short playtime and lacking somewhat in replayability, it would have been more sensible to do the same as before and just add on the DLC at no cost. While it is a fantastic game that incredibly fun to play, I find the length a little disappointing and would have felt better about my purchase had the DLC been included for free. Knowing this now, I would have waited until it went on sale. Expand

The main thing holding this game back is the controls. They're just like the first game. Sometimes when I jump and press grab the character does sometimes he doesn't. They're simply too inconsistent. If it wasn't for the clunky controls I would have given this game a 9 easy so minus 2 points for poor controls.

The Switch version is also littered with glitches like the characters spinning in place, random white tears, and objects not loading in when they should. The game feels rushed and like the developers didn't have time to fully test it. These aren't major glitches so minus 1 point.

Overall a good game and I'll be looking forward to a 3rd, hopefully with improved controls.

The original Little Nightmares was mostly about stealth. Keep hidden in the shadows, and you might just escape the creatures waiting to catch you. That is what made the game great, and what made it different from so many other games out there.

In Little Nightmares II, Tarsier and Bandai Namco throw some of that winning formula overboard. Instead, we find a loosely connected, confusing narrative - and many fights. Yes, apart from fleeing and hiding, this game is a lot about hitting, crushing and killing.

The visuals and sound design, as well as many of the puzzle based levels, are still top notch, but controls are sometimes clunky. Simple episodes of walking around, finding something and solving a problem are mixed with infuriating, timing sensitive jump and run action. The latter often breaks the flow of the game, leaving a feeling of frustration, rather than a sense of accomplishment, with awkwardly placed checkpoints only adding to this. Also, some scripted character actions look choppy and would have needed a bit more polishing.

Most reviewers seem not to mind all the violence, which perhaps reflects the times we live in. Altogether, Little Nightmares II is too much of an irritation, and too little fun. The semi-predictable ending of this Scandinavian game leaves a similar taste in your mouth like so many Scandinavian TV series have for the last decade. Been there, done that. Please move on.

    BEFORE STARTING:
Little Nightmares 2 was announced on February 10, 2021; developed by Tarsier Studios and published by Supermassive Games and Bandai Namco. The game was completed 100% on Xbox Series X, with additional graphical improvements compared to the old-gen version.

    TUNING THE TV:
Little Nightmares 2 begins with a short scene depicting a long corridor with a closed door. The door bears the eye symbol from the first chapter, clearly hinting at the interconnection between the two games, establishing it from the start. In the following few seconds, the player finds themselves controlling a new little character, completely unknown, with a paper bag covering their face. This character doesn't seem to possess any special abilities and moves similarly to Six, the protagonist of the first Little Nightmares. The early stages of the game take place in a large, dark, and evidently inhabited forest. These areas serve as a way for the player to learn the various game mechanics in order to utilize them as soon as possible.

    ESCAPING FROM YOUR SHADOW:
Little Nightmares 2 combines the simplicity of controls for the main character, including running, grabbing, stealthy walking, and calling, with the complexity and intricacy of puzzles present in different game environments. These puzzles continuously vary throughout the chapters and require strategy and reflexes from players, as well as a good level of stealth to avoid being discovered by enemies. The game is packed with chasing sequences, complex puzzles, enemies with different attack styles, and many platforming sections. The 5 chapters of the game are distinctly divided into completely different areas, each with at least one unique mechanic. Additionally, there are various collectibles ranging from huggable glitch children to wearable hats. It's worth noting the ability to choose which chapters to play. Fortunately, the presence of an allied artificial intelligence doesn't cause problems during stealth sections and manages to provide a sense of tranquility in the darkest levels.

    YELLOW FEAR:
The art design of this game is stunning, with attention to detail in every aspect, in every moment of the game and in every situation. Each enemy has numerous unique animations based on player interaction. The variety of 3D models in this game is astonishing and, even though they are often repeated, they never give a sense of déjà vu. Furthermore, the attention to detail in the various rooms, which effectively tells a silent story to the player, is always delightful. Finally, the script is the game's highlight and is considered one of the best ever seen in the gaming landscape.

    STATIC SYMPHONY:
The sound department of Little Nightmares 2 has significantly improved compared to the first title, with a much larger and memorable list of original music. The sound design is well executed in most situations, allowing the player to avoid hidden dangers or to tremble in their seat, hoping not to be caught.
    BUT WHY 9?

    PROS:
Personally, Little Nightmares 2 is one of the most beautiful and touching horror adventures in the gaming world, with impeccable aesthetics and attention to detail that rival any AAA game. The addition of an ally definitely reduces the anxiety of solitude but adds an infinite number of fantastic interactions, along with the typical hand-in-hand running reminiscent of ICO for PlayStation 2.

    CONS:
Beside some glitches, which are nearly unavoidable given the vast array of different mechanics, the game is almost perfect. The one detail that prevents it from reaching a 10 lies in the ending, which gives the impression of being rushed, possibly due to the impending release date. The final section of the game explains very little about the past and future world of the game and connects the two console titles in a somewhat hidden manner. Nevertheless, both games are still unforgettable gems.

Niggling platforming mechanics aside, Little Nightmares II is hauntingly beautiful and full of mystery, its eeriness matched only by the impact it leaves on the player. [Issue #3, p.59]

For a horror, this is an oddly beautiful game filled with gorgeous scenes and amazing detail. Even though it is a sequel, it gives it's own interesting storyline that matches the original without being a copy.

Little Nightmares II is an excellent sequel to one of the best horror titles with elements of puzzle and exploration. The second game brings the "work together" appeal, with the return of Six (protagonist of first Little Nightmares), and the protagonism of Mono. This surreal adventure is worth every second.
