Secondly, the movement options are not nearly as good as a Mario game, which is partly why those games are so good in the first place. There are some ways to make movement faster, but they usually rely on specific abilities you might not come across at a convenient time. Overall though, this is a great Nintendo game that only really gets outshined by the better Switch titles such as Odyssey and Smash. If you love 3D Mario, you will most likely enjoy this game, but do not expect it to be the next Mario Odyssey. Expand

Expand

After waiting over 20 years for a 3D Kirby platformer game the developers at HAL Laboratory did not disappoint. Kirby feels right at home running around in circles, using his powers in a 3D landscape, and doing what he's always done best but from every possible angle. It's not something revolutionary or different, which adds a strange charm unique to this experience. Playing through this game just felt right, as if it was what Kirby always was, or perhaps meant to be. Like this was the next Kirby game, not a first in a new direction. It's difficult to explain, but it's as if this was the game we've all been waiting for in our minds, and it manifested perfectly before us at long last.

While exploring the beautiful Forgotten Land this game tells a charming story that has a few delightful surprises along the way, all with a wonderful soundtrack that's easy to jam to. The various power-ups you earn along the way can be leveled up to become cooler (and sometimes sillier) as well as stronger, with plenty of well thought out boss battles to try them against throughout the journey. With 7 worlds to explore with several levels in each one and plenty to do back in the hub area like the Colosseum, there's plenty of content to keep you busy and always a feeling of something to do. This game is also filled with plenty of challenges, delightful mini-games, and a collectable system that's filled with hidden lore to add to the surprisingly well thought out narrative. It's hard to believe I'm in a world where I'm praising the story of a Kirby 3D platformer, but here I am, and I'm delighted to be doing so.

From the moment I turned it on I was immediately charmed by the colorful world, the very well animated cutscenes, and the adorable sidekick you're given. So much thought and love was put into every level and every scene, and feeling the love the developers put into this game made me love it too. I can't wait to see where the adorable pink puffball goes from here, and look forward to more smiles and even more to love.

Amazing game! I really love the change to 3D perspective. The best feature in the new installment is the evolution of copy abilities. It makes the game way better and untio you finish it you still have copy abilities to wait for. If you like Kirby this game is a must-play.

If the prospect of a level-based 3D platformer that gives you an extensive and creative moveset, a light focus on level exploration and light puzzle solving with stunning, colorful visuals and an spectacular orchestrated soundtrack is attractive to you, you're in for a great time with this game.

Additionally, players wanting a deeper challenge besides the main campaign are offered a much more challenging post-game and boss rush mode. Add these to the exploration factor, short challenge levels and hub area mini-games and you're in for about 20 hours of content with very little padding, all of which can be enjoyed by up to two players in local co-op.

For Kirby veterans, I will add that the conversion of Kirby's moveset to a three dimensional space is completely flawless and feels very natural.
One of my personal highlights of this new three dimensional Kirby gameplay are the boss fights, which are much more focused on the new dodge mechanic (comparable to those found in FromSoft or Monster Hunter games, while being much easier to pull off). The harder post-game bosses are an absolute blast thanks to this new combat system.

It should also be noted that the number of available copy abilities has greatly reduced compared to the dozens of options Star Allies gave us. The lowest in the main series actually, numbering 12 (two of which are Sleep and Crash, single use abilities without a real moveset).
However, this is far from a deal breaker and isn't nearly as impactful as it may initially seem. The new copy ability evolution mechanic allows you to "upgrade" them gradually, with Sleep and Crash getting a single upgrade and the rest getting at least two.
These upgrades range from complete moveset overhauls, to boosts in power, range or rate of fire. It should also be noted that this is the best some classic abilities have ever been and that both new additions, Ranger and Drill, play great and feature concepts new to the series, like attacking enemies from below the ground or dual wielding 19th century style firearms with a fancy hat to match.

The new mouthful mode is a blast too, adding variety to stages and working in a similar way to the fan- favorite Robobot armor, in the sense that it expands Kirby's moveset in an organic and engaging way, rather than turning him into an unstoppable force of mass destruction (i.e. Super Abilities and Hypernova).

In regards to the story and contributions to Kirby lore, I will say without getting into spoilers that it absolutely delivers, being in the same vein as the previous titles. Don't expect a jaw-dropping game-changing reveal like in Star Allies, but expect the usual awesome final boss and loosely explained backstory to keep us hardcore fans entertained with crazy theories and such.

The game of course isn't perfect, with my main complaint being the restrictive co-op (the second player can only play as Bandana Dee and can't explore on their own, with the camera focusing a little too much on Kirby).
But overall, for the much anticipated first fully-fledged 3D Kirby adventure, this game delivers and exceeds my personal expectation. Get it, play it, enjoy it and if it's your first venture into the series make sure to check out the great games that came before it. Adventure, Super Star, Dream Land 3 and 64 are all available on Switch and other games on GB, GBA, DS, 3DS and Wii are all fantastic too.

The theming of most of the levels are unlike what we're used to in kirby games, these are set in uninhabited places previously occupied by humans. These levels are by far best as they utilize mouthful mode in fun ways as well as give us the most unique settings for a kirby game.

One surprising feature is the ability to upgrade your copy abilities which adds a sort of progression. You do have the find the blueprints and you will have to get the currency but these are not chores and do not require you to grind, you will get the coins through just playing and the stars can be obtained by doing mini levels that take no more than 2 minutes. This lets you tailor the experience and change your favorite abilities into one that fit your playstyle better. Another form of progression is the town, here you can obtain new buildings that allow you to do things such as heal, watch cinematics or play mini games. It is not essential for anything other than upgrading abilities and you'll unlock most of it through just playing so there is no grinding. It's a fun addition that shows your progress when releasing waddle dees.

There is also a lot to collect in this game, I did not collect a lot but when I was I thought it was quite enjoyable. The collectibles are hidden throughout each level in the form of "gotcha" figures. You can also use a vending machine to obtain any missing ones but its random which you'll get. These are not needed for anything in the game and you can skip them entirely.

Graphically the game is great, it sticks to its stylized art very well and doesn't have anything that feels out of place. There were times where I had FPS drops but it was very rare and didn't stay that way for long.

Coop mode is, however, the part of the game that has the most downsides to my eyes. It's certainly fun to play in coop but it feels like it has been added much later in the making process of the game. I say that because the camera always centers on Kirby wherever he is and whatever he is doing. If you (the 2nd player) have passed a challenge and Kirby hasn't yet and he falls in the lava for example, the 2nd player is often teleported to the lava too... This feature was often frustrating, especially in the big boss fights where the camera just forces you to die because you're too far from Kirby.

Besides the coop mode, I guess the game is a 10 for solo players but because of the coop mode that is sort of broken, I have to give it a 9. I highly recommend this game, even if you want to play in coop mode (just be prepared to be killed randomly). Enjoy!

Mario 3D world is incredible, but is just a port of a game from another system. And Bowsers Fury, also incredible, is very short lived and can be beaten in an hour and a half if you put your mind to it. Now we have Kirby. a game that genuinely thrills and excites the way that Nintendo games are supposed to. HAL Labs has done what Nintendo's first party devs seem unable to do, make a game that brings the player in without sacrificing what has always made the character successful.

Kirby finds himself on a new planet and, in more ways then one, a new dimmension. The first for the series 3D adventure is visually stimulating and harkens back to Mario Odyssey levels of exploration in the search for the errant Waddle Dees and Gachapon balls. As the game progresses I get to feel as though I, as Kirby, am getting stronger thanks to the blueprints that you can easily find throughout the levels. The gameplay is smooth with some useful tricks hidden in dialogue for those who want to speedrun the game or just beat the time trial challenges along Treasure Road. No matter what you want to accomplish in Kirby and the Forgotten Land you are able to do it and you will most likely have fun the entire time. The only reason this game isn't a 10 for me is that I wish there were more post game content. the entire game can be beaten in a total of about 8 hours, and if you wanted to 100% the game you're only really looking at a total of 15 hours of gameplay, by conservative estimates. For $60 I would prefer there to be either more boss rush style stages in the arena, or even a new game plus mode where you can't get as many health items and the enemies are a bit tougher. Regardless maybe with some DLC or free updates this game will hit the 10 spot. but for now Kirby and the Forgotten Land will have a permanent spot on the list of games that are MUST PLAY for the Nintendo Switch.

The best Kirby game. One of the best games on Switch. Excellent pacing and a huge variety of environments and game mechanics to play with make for non stop fun. The vibes are great with compelling music and sound design and a vibrant world full of secrets to discover. Gameplay is basic but solid, with variety more than making up for any lack of depth.

Easily one of the best Kirby games to date. The new power ups and worlds were welcome additions to the series. It reminded me of how fun a simple platformer could be on it's own without any super intrusive gimmicks.

First half of the game was just amazing - lots of inventive ways of using Kirby abilities and mouthful mode, but all second part of the game was just getting things a bit harder with almost no new mechanics. I think that this part with something new in each level was done better in Mario Odyssey.

Kirby definitely take some inspiration from Mario Odyssey and the implementation is good but not as revolutionary as in Mario Odyssey. In Kirby mostly it's only the matter of option instead of functionality and the variations not really that many although the variation comes from you upgrading the abilities which create ton of fun as you progress through each level.

Difficulty of the game way too easy even in wild mode but that's understandable as Kirby not aim to be a challenging game, instead become a relaxing game. Luckily, the boss design is fabulous so there's a learning process to save all the waddle dees, just don't use any buff to create more challenging experience while playing.

Regarding exploration, it's somehow way too easy, I kind of expect that hidden path should be hardly noticeable but in this game, it doesn't seem like a hidden path at all. It could be due to my habit of playing any game (search every corner) which makes Kirby not really a pleasant experience when it comes to exploration. Mario Odyssey on the other hand, has a lot of hidden path, room, etc which makes exploration more dynamic and fun.

Level design is great but somehow (the way I see and experience it) all levels not create equally or at least reach certain standard. Some levels are boring, some are generic and fine, some are fantastic especially the last level which also quite lengthy. Although, I can say that nearing the end, all levels are consistently great. Probably because they throw every element in the game (?)

The addition of treasure road are great which create more challenging levels as well as teach you how to fully understand the capabilities of all the abilities. Some levels are too easy and some are total nonsense that I barely reach the target time.

Last the the developer decision of FPS lock-unlock is weird. Kirby is a 30 FPS game but when you in the level or shop menu, the game will unlock to 60 FPS. The inconsistencies really bothers me. I prefer to go all the way with 30 FPS instead of jumping from 30 to 60 and then back to 30 again when playing the level.

Overall I do enjoy the game although it's completely a very short game for me. The pricing of the game is way too high for such content that offered in the game. Sorry, but I'm a type of gamer that do care about the game length because it's mostly reflect on the content or activities you can do in the game. Of course, compare to the other installment, this one is the best Kirby game ever created.

Kirby’s best outing yet! HAL has successfully translated the formula into 3D without skimping on novel ideas. The levels are inventive, with enough optional challenges to keep them engaging from start to finish. Treasure Road levels test the full range of copy abilities. Post-game content is meaty and challenging. I wish it ran at 60 FPS, but I’ll live.

Kirby is an extremely fun game and very kid friendly. The story isn't too complicated and is interesting enough to keep you engaged. The knock on this is the difficulty of the challenge levels to get the required resource for upgrading your weapons. The game does not do a good job explaining what you need to do on those levels

Jugabilidad: perfecta, simplemente perfecta.

For new player of Kirby like myself, it was a remarkable experience, with a marvelous gameplay and stunning scenery and soundtrack. After finishing this game I'll certainly try out other Kirby games.

Kirby and the Forgotten Land is a amazing Switch game! Kirby finally gets a proper 3d adventure. The gameplay is smooth. Music is good and just like Super Mario Odyssey, it has it's own song for it's soundtrack! The story is top notch. (SPOILERS) Kirby just gets sucked into a vortex and just has to save the waddle dees and both the new world and Dream Land. (END OF SPOILERS) The bosses have fun attack patterns and the sub games are nice but the PAL regions (Europe and Australia) finally get a version of Kirby: Tilt 'n' Tumble! The characters have unique personalities and the ending is so sad and yet so charming. The only flaw is that if you're far from a moving enemy or object. It has stuttering frame rate issues. But that will probably not bother you. Pick up this game. You'll see why many kirby fans out this as number 1... Expand

Best Kirby game in the series by far. Took the series to new heights. I hope Nintendo continues to make Kirby in 3D in the future.

I am writing this review simply to make this game higher than Kirby's Epic Yarn.

Epic Yarn is also good, but play this one instead

Imo this game is the best cover of Kirby's Cossack storyline, very addictive gameplay, nice designed boss fights, easy puzzles, for me this game is 10/10 (but everyone has an opinion)

One of the better games in the Kirby franchise and a much-needed transition to 3D.

The game obviously tries not to keep you needlessly long in a single level and is, as is traditional in the series, fairly accessible to players of all ages and abilities, so that it only asks for a challenge at specific moments. It's a shame that those great imaginative worlds and cool puzzles aren't used more. [Issue#319]

Without a shadow of a doubt Kirby And The Forgotten Land is one of the best titles to have released in 2022. And one of the best on the Nintendo Switch. Offering bright, breezy, and downright fun gameplay all wrapped up with some brilliant and characterful levels and characters. However it may be too easy for the more hardcore gamer looking for a challenge.

Kirby And The Forgotten Land is one of the most fun, polished and bright games this whole year, while also being a family-friendly title which is a big plus.
