Despite the beautiful pixel game and the emotional storytelling. Inmost has some bugs and controlling improvements. You can tell that's not a high end pixel game like others in switch. I hope to get a inmost 2 with all good and all improvements.

Bad performance on the Switch lets this game down massively. There's a good game here, but there are framerate issues all over the shop, which makes it terrible to play a lot of times. There are also glitches with saving (so sometimes you won't save your progress). I reckon this is a good game - but unplayable in its current state.

The game is mainly story driven and definitely has some emotional heft throughout. Like Limbo or Inside, the story is mostly implied and that's where it's strongest. There is some narration, but it is vague and metaphorical so it fits nicely. That is until the end, which explicitly tells you what happened. It's not a bad ending, but would have been better told visually with a littleThe game is mainly story driven and definitely has some emotional heft throughout. The actual gameplay is really just there to keep you moving through the story. It's not particularly clever or challenging, but it does the job. Unfortunately, it's not always clear what you should be doing and it's VERY slow.
Overall, Inmost does a good job of evoking emotion, but it doesn't quite leave that lasting impression of similar games.

+ amazing pixelart (but with strange contour on sprites and font)
+ clearly inspiration by heart of darkens game
+ nice easy platform elements and puzzlez
    - many glitches on switch (with so many qa testers ??)
    - too long cutscenes (escpecially last one)
    - stupid tender paulo coelho like story

Inmost carries with it a strong, emotional message related to feelings of loss and grief and as such, it's a game that starts off right when it comes to bonding with its players. Unfortunately it doesn't take long until unexplainable performance issues start harming the experience with an inconsistent framerate, which is difficult to understand as this is not a visually demanding game (despite its very competent audiovisual art style), and the dull, redundant gameplay with two of its three characters transmits close to nothing in terms of challenge. Inmost could have turned out much better, with a greater investment in its gameplay experience and in solving its paralyzing issues but as it is, this is an interesting but also extremely frustrating game.

Inmost may seem like an ordinary 15 dollars indie game that you can kill in a few hours, but it is actually a unique tale full of secrets that will make you play it over and over again to fully discover its creepy world.

I still recommend Inmost for having a clear and heartfelt thesis, for trusting players to go along for the ride, and for providing plenty of eye- and ear-candy to keep them enthralled along the way. As disorienting and alien as Hidden Layer’s world feels, I imagine most players will be surprised by how strongly they relate to its characters by the time the credits roll.
