It takes elements out of other games such as DayZ but puts a more fun spin upon the multiplayer zombie survival genre. The map is fairly sized being around 1.5× the size of the original Ice Station Z and definitely benefits from these changes. It hosts a singleplayer mode and a more focused multiplayer game mode. This multiplayer offers a less challenging version of the singleplayer game and has less zombies overall as they only spawn near the host but luckily that will be unlikely as aproblem considering much time in the multiplayer is spent exploring the map with other players and communicating on the intake voice chat. This adds a another layer to the game as you can now have a more fun filled experience with the game. Sadly some locations had to be cut that were in the original game but are no longer here, this is not bad overall as the game adds some new locations and most of the older returning locations are larger and more fleshed out. The graphics are by far the largest improvement in the entire game. Comparing this new game to the 3DS game they are practically unrecognisable with this new game hitting AAA levels of graphical fidelity and is a much need improvement from the polygon filled original game! The zombies of course return as they are the main antagonist of the game they this time look more creepy with blue glowing eyes and frosted skin. They sport a large blue coat and cargo trousers similar to that of the player. It really makes it feel like the zombies are more like actual infected survivors than just mindless noise. Overall this game is an improvement in every way It can be the graphics, character models, the locations the variety in landscape all has improved massively. It has a few bugs the most annoying of which is random crashing but this will very likely be fixed in a later patch to the game. I would highly recommend this game as it has a little big of enjoyment for everyone! Expand

With Ice Station Z for the Switch, I cant help but feel excited to be a part of this game again. The base game is fun enough, really selling the fact that you are alone.

However, multiplayer is where the game shines. One of the only Switch games that includes in-game voice chat, (not with the garbage switch app!) and in game text chat, trying to survive in this wasteland can be extremely difficult when pitted against other players. Water, food, better clothing, and items you need to fuel, repair, and maintain vehicles offer many ways to traverse the map. Across the island of Briggie Knoe, you will find abandoned log cabins, military bases, cargo ships , submarines, barracks, satellite towers, and a couple of other iconic locations that I don't want to spoil!. The map in this game does not feel too big, but also feels large enough to make you feel alone. The weapons and clothing in this game allow for combat to be dependent on skill as well as who was able to come up with the best armor/gun. The zombies in this game are also formidable, being faster, as well as being harder to see at night!. One last thing that I really appreciate is that the DLC skin packs are all cosmetic only, they do not = better armor. It's really fun to customize my character with these packs!

Onto the negatives - there's only a few things that really bother me.

-For one, if the host disconnects, the entire lobby gets closed out. This was remedied in the first game, where it would pass lobby ownership onto another one of the 10 players in that lobby.
-The inventory management and some of the menu UI is not great. You cannot move while managing your inventory, and getting a specific item in a specific part of your inventory is near impossible. You cannot drop additional backpacks without dropping everything in your inventory to revert to the base backpack.
-You are not notified when a player joins, leaves, dies, or chats. A simple popup would fix this easily.
-The game crashes excessively when trying to join multiplayer. I can't really pinpoint why, sometimes it just crashes when trying to join a lobby.
-Not respawning where you logged out is super irritating in multiplayer! It is supposed to be to prevent spawn camping, however trekking all the way across the map to meet up with your friends because of this system is super irritating! it also makes base-building impossible because you wont spawn at your base.

These major flaws hurt the enjoyment of the game for me. These can be fixed, and if you're read this Wobbly, the game will be so much better if you fix these issues! Please keep updating Ice Station Z!

I believe there is no better game for the price, and if you played the 3DS game you will for sure enjoy the throwbacks in this game! Please check out Ice Station Z for the Nintendo Switch, it's super fun!

In honesty if you are expecting a triple A game, for $5 you are surely mistaken. The game has some issues but the patch fixes them. People who are complaining over how it's unfinished are the same ones who thought it would be a zombie like arena shooter have some thought people. The game is great for the price you pay. A few issues here and their but at the end of the day you're going to spend more time screaming in a discord vc with your friend's and having a good time. Expand

Exploiting saves toI personally enjoy ISZ Switch a lot, but being critical, the game is heavily riddled with bugs, exploits, and crashes. Exploiting saves to regain your inventory after deaths is still super easy to do like in ISZ 3DS, which is a massive punch to the severity of dying, and gun glitching is also still possible. The lack of friend only servers is a massive takeback for me as well. I'd give this a seven, but I have hope Wobbly will fix many of these issues in patches, and I do have a lot of fun playing the game for what it is. For the price, you can't really go wrong; it's a fun arcade-style survival game, and offers good gun fights online if you're looking for that. Expand

The bugs include random crashes, server problems, no autosaving, sometimes input lag (on multiplayer) and some frame drops. But for a game that was known on the 3ds as a glitchy mess. The landscape and inside of buildings are absolute beautiful for a budget title of this type. It is still really addicting to survive for longer periods of time. The minigames are really wonky and look like blender in 2004. But are surprisingly addictive, and pretty challenging. Voice-Chat, and texting work well enough, but they can easily be improved apon later. The in-game menu's are clunky but can be easily adapted to after just 30 minutes. The game also however will have input lag if you aren't from the same region in multiplayer. Or just have really bad internet. The servers all say 1/10 which is a bug as of now. The game needs some work, and the developer has replied and is working on fixing issues in update 1.2 coming out in a few weeks notice. With a steam release on the way, cool cosmetic dlc, and for $4.99 this game is a great time killer. And I do suggest Ice Station Z for Nintendo Switch to anybody who has a bone for zombie survival open world game. Expand

I see other people listing major issues and still giving it a 9-10 review which doesn’t make sense. Just because you like the game when it works doesn’t mean the negatives go away such as connection and inventory issues. If the game is out and not complete then lower the price till issues fix or don’t rush a release
