Hexagroove: Tactical DJ may take just a little time to explore, but I found it super engaging. This music game requires you to think about every decision you make, and teaches you how you can play the virtual crowd. There are plenty of musical loops and timing elements to keep you replaying levels and going wild in Freestyle. The minigames may prove a little too demanding at points, but that is only a slight niggle in an otherwise superb journey throughout this musical experience. Overall, Hexagroove is a nice surprise through and through.

Chalk down Hexagroove: Tactical DJ as one of the year's biggest surprises. A wholly unique take on the rhythm genre, it’s challenging and enormously rewarding. The feeling of creating your own music for a virtual crowd to respond to is addicting, and while the multiplayer ultimately offers very little to the package, the single-player and the seemingly endless Freestyle mode will have you coming back to best those scores again and again. This is definitely one for headphones or a very loudspeaker system, and a must for rhythm action fans.

Hexagroove: Tactical DJ is flawed – from one minigame and a lack of guidance. The problem is, that minigame is a big part of truly nailing a set. It’s a scratch in an otherwise very clean, very good record.

Hexagroove: Tactical DJ is a somewhat odd but still enjoyable music experience. While it isn’t a typical music game where you mimic predetermined tunes, it isn’t a music creation tool either. Instead it’s something in between. At first the gameplay might feel both overwhelming and confusing, especially since the tutorial is pretty terrible. But after some practice everything starts to come together – and you will soon be hypnotized by the excellent symbiosis of sound and visuals.

A freeplay mode and breezy multiplayer component let Hexagroove's bare essentials shine through. [Issue#338, p.106]

A unique musical experience—teaches you a lot about dj-ing without you realizing it.
