    Ultimately, HAUNTED: Halloween ‘86 (The Curse Of Possum Hollow) doesn’t necessarily bring anything revolutionary to the genre, but it really doesn’t need to. The game feels like a game I played years ago, and that’s what makes it so much fun.

    HAUNTED: Halloween ‘86 is a follow-up to a technically revolutionary concept made real, and unlike many daunting modern titles, it actually pays off in what it’s trying to accomplish. Considering that it’s made within the technical confines of the NES while retaining modern gaming sensibilities, it’s hard not to recommend this charming beat ’em up. I can even overlook the dismal concept of candy corn restoring health.

    Haunted: Halloween ’86 maintains the essences of its predecessor while generally improving all aspects of it. It succeeds in reminding us that video games were still great even with simpler and more limited hardware, but those limitations remind us how far the medium has advanced. The appeal of this title is pretty much going to be limited to the niche market of retro gamers but after spending some time in Possum Hollow I wouldn’t object to there being a Halloween ’87 in the future.

    It may be rough around its 8-bit edges but Haunted: Halloween '86 can be quite enjoyable after you get used to its shortcomings.

This game is fun and addictive and I am looking forward to sequel! It may not have all the bells and whistles of a modern "retro inspired" game, but that's because it is the real deal, not just an homage. The game handles and plays like a top tier first party effort, and the graphics/mood/setting created within the NES confines is mind blowing. It is also important to mention the amazing improvements in '86 over '85 (though 85 is also a great, great game). I really hope retro fans will give this game a try.… Expand

The game plays great with a lot of moves and abilities, and the controls are spot on. Graphics and sound are superb, and Haunted really shines with its narrative. A superb action platformer with tight controls, great level design and catchy tunes. The characters, enemies and bosses are really cool designs and a great story of saving a town from the undead and its evil mastermind. I would recommend this game to all players of all ages!… Expand
