It has obvious flaws like the inconsistent art style in a few places or some of the animations failing to convey the intended character movement, but the game over all is surprisingly enjoyable.

Anyone knows the first thing to go wrong in a platformer is always the movement, but luckily, Big Gorilla Adventure has that covered. It is a little stiff at times, especially when moving to a lower platform, but over all it's similar in feel to the first 3 Mario games. The momentum and acceleration of the gorilla feels just right.

The main task is collecting bananas, similar to Donkey Kong 64, but here the task is much more streamlined, because all the bananas are yours for the taking, where in DK 64 you had to switch to specific Kongs to get all the differently coloured bananas. Big Gorilla Adventure respects your time and doesn't waste it with pointless tedium. The banana collection is straight to the point and collecting them is simple fun.

The music is nothing to write about, it does its job. Some tracks were better than others but none stuck around after beating the game, which is a shame, because the visuals do heavy lifting to keep up the atmosphere, and as stated at the beginning, they can be a little underwhelming sometimes.
It's a non-issue most of the time but worth pointing out.

Without spoiling the best part, the twist level near the end of the single-player campaign is absolutely breathtaking and a marvel of game design. I didn't know it's possible to completely flip all the mechanics the player is familiarised with on their head and somehow still make it work, but apparently it is and the creativity that came from the Devs is on full display in the last 4 levels with the 4th one nicely wrapping up the narrative and placing a cherry on top of the best tasting cake in your life, but with some little ugly spots here and there on the frosting.

Overall, at 5$ you can't really go wrong here. It maybe the most ambitious scam asset flip I've played and it's interesting to see a FIFA or Assassin's Creed type scam of selling you the same game a couple of times with a different skin for a full price, but from a smaller, less experienced studio, and to see such a well made product is very much welcome, if not a little surprising.
