Flip Wars is a fun little game for the Switch, that is ideal to play with some friends on the couch. The gameplay, though simple, is entertaining for all ages. Sadly the game lacks any single-player content. But it's low price makes up for a lot of it.

It’s perhaps stepping on Super Bomberman R’s toes at a fraction of the price, but Flip Wars scratches that multiplayer itch and is an absolute blast to play locally. There are currently some kinks to iron out, particularly with online matchmaking to fully use all the player slots, but with updates a possibility it’s certainly one to keep an eye on to see how things develop.

Flip Wars is yet another fun party title from Nintendo. Alas, just being fun doesn’t justify a purchase. Many of the concepts used in Flip Wars are interesting but lack the depth or volume for me to call them anything greater than a concept. It may be worth revisiting in a few months after some heavy updates.

Flip Wars is a multiplayer game that win by playing it this way. Its great deficiency is in the lack of modes of games and alternatives for a single player. Even so, it can be a great option to keep in mind for family gatherings and with friends.

Flip Wars is a good bit of multiplayer that's fun in short bursts, and does offer something of a challenge to single players - even if the game itself is incomplete for the moment. It’s certainly one to keep an eye on as the features start falling into place, especially since you can expect Nintendo to support this one with content for months to come.

Over Fence has an average game on their hands with Flip Wars. There is so much potential here for bigger and better things, but for the time being, it’s fun and worthy of parties. If you’re into multiplayer games, it isn’t a bad choice at all. That being said, patience is key when waiting for matches to start and actually playing them. It has only been available for several days now so the fan-base is slowly developing. If purchasing Flip Wars, make sure you have others to play with in person or good enough internet connection to play online. The free access to Nintendo’s online connection is limited, but at least you can enjoy it with friends.

If we were to give a definition to Flip Wars, the most consonant could be that of "aperitif game".

Flip Wars is an incomplete video game. The base is solid and fun, bu it lacks in gameplay modes and sensation of progression.

Flip Wars has a very solid foundation, but a lack of content that makes it look like an early access game. Once it feels finished, it can be a good option.

Flip Wars has a great premise for multiplayer fun, especially for local battles. Joining your mates huddled around a Switch the concept works nicely, but in an age where online gaming is bigger than ever you'd think a game like this would nail online play at release. Instead there are missing game modes and spotty online connections will put some people off this very enjoyable title. Due to its early access-like feel it might be worth saving your pennies for a few weeks before splashing out on Flip Wars, to see if the promised future updates will actually deliver the modes that aren't available right now and iron out the kinks in servers.

Battle Sports Mekuru has the heart of a good multiplayer game, but the variety isn't there yet. With three simple stages and many incomplete modes, it is a really hard sell at the moment. My suggestion is to wait until after the game has gotten some updated. At that point, I am more than willing to give the game a second chance and see how the package stands. As of right now, I can only recommend Battle Sports Mekuru to those who play a lot in tabletop and TV modes with other people. It is where the game shined brightest for me.

I have played a few local battles, but have not put much time or had much luck finding any games online. There is also a My Room area where you can review your stats for the game as far as number of times having played each mode, number of panels flipped (gets into the thousands fairly quickly), and how often you have visited the three arenas. Flip Wars is very basic title no matter how you slice it. From the ho-hum presentation to the lack of any real depth in any of the modes, this is a borderline textbook casual mobile game. It doesn’t do much for me, but if you’re into this kind of game, you could spend $10 in less enjoyable ways.

It feels a lot like they took one game out of Mario Party and attempted to make it a full eShop title. [Issue #30 – November/December 2017, p. 20]

Flip Wars isn't a bad game, it's a painfully mediocre one with an appalling lack of overall content. The Switch might be the perfect place for a small, simple multiplayer game, but Flip Wars doesn't offer anything new or different enough to justify itself.

Flip Wars is a very simple, shallow party game. It’s not actively terrible, but it barely offers anything to do. It only costs $9.99, so if you think it looks really fun, it might not hurt to buy it. Someone else might like it more than I do. But personally, for that amount, I’d much rather have Shovel Knight: Specter of Torment, since that offers far greater enjoyment over a longer period than the few minutes I had with this game.

Flip Wars is fun enough to ensure some well spent sessions of local multiplayer, with some of its influences becoming visible in a very positive light. Unfortunately it also feels unfinished to a certain degree and the disappointment left in its online multiplayer ends up harming one of the game's potentially greatest assets.

There are some titles that have high replay value despite their simplicity, but Flip Wars is not one of them, as this is nothing but a simple mini-game turned full game. In other words, while this is definitely cheaper, better save that pizza money for Splatoon 2… or pizza.

Mario Party 7 has a minigame, Tile and Error, in which players must ground pound tiles to claim territory. The fact that Flip Wars can so easily be compared to a 30-second minigame from over a decade ago should say a lot about what you’re getting yourself into if you purchase this. Some of the hip dropping, tile-flipping mechanics are genuinely interesting, but Flip Wars is essentially a $10 minigame and a rather average one at that.

Although I hoped Flip Wars would turn out to be a fun online and party game when I first saw its footage, the title turned out to be a disappointment void of any real merit. The gameplay is clunky, content is slim, and power-ups do little to remedy the experience. The lack of a single-player mode and virtually nonexistent online make recommending this title even more. Ultimately, Flip Wars’ release made my disappointed Nintendo published an unfinished game like it in the first place.

Flip Wars is in some ways less fleshed out than the demo for Fusion Frenzy. Almost every feature, from the blocked out local mode to the disappointing "My Room" option (that's less of a room and more like a statistic menu), is a half measure.

Flip Wars is not worth buying at all right now and it needs a lot of work to come close to being decent let alone good.
  24. 30
Flip Wars' problem is that it has no depth whatsoever. That silly, simple, chaotic, and utterly pointless button masher that you had a quick laugh at when you play it for the first time really is all that’s on offer.

Sure the price is cheap and for a few minutes most might be entertained but the level of repetition, dull gameplay, and boring visuals do nothing to make players want to continue the Flip Wars, and it’s ultimately a failure in almost every sense. The game works and doesn’t seem to have any huge issues, but that’s about the best I can say.

It looks fun and the first few games are interesting and cool but you quickly realize that the game just isn't fun. I don't really know why, the game idea is fine. Flipping tiles by jumping on them to cover the most area is something that's been done in Mario party and that was fun but this just isn't.

There are a big variety of maps and some game modes but every game feels the same and it doesn't always feel like the best player wins. The movement feels weird sometimes too, it's like you move slower up and down and faster sideways, don't know why that is.

Get bomber man or astro bears instead.
