FINAL FANTASY VI is a game that's beloved by fans and critics alike.

That's partly thanks to its incredible setting and story. It's set in a land where magic has disappeared, and humanity has instead turned to iron, gunpowder, steam and other technology.

Actually, it would be more accurate to say that magic is mostly gone - a young woman enslaved by the evil Empire still has the power. When she encounters a powerful ancient being called an Esper, she sets off a chain of events that will have epic and terrible consequences.

  1. So far, the vast majority of the visual upgrades and the new quality of life features make the Pixel Remaster for Final Fantasy VI a strong candidate for being the best way to experience one of Square Enix’s most compelling RPGs. I almost neglected to mention that a bestiary, music player, and gallery are all accessible from the main menu, rounding out the package quite nicely. I’m eager to see how summoned Espers look in all their glory, in addition to the always sublime Opera House scene.

The Pixel Remasters brought in much needed quality of life changes that allowed me to play through this game: quick save, increased experience points, ability to turn off random encounters, etc that prevented me from playing it thoroughly in the past. What we have here is one of the best FF there is. Ironic that almost 30 years onward, FF is renowned for its incredible graphics and audio. Here, you can see all the innovations that are still being used today in its purest form. Lo and behold, it is an incredible game, with incredible characters and storyline that moves you. No wonder this game is so revered until now. It is a breakthrough game that cements FF as the king of RPG and made it one of the top games during the SNES era. Expand

Good story, nice graphics and the ability to control a whole party of 4 characters (from a 14 characters cast). No eye-candy graphics, no convoluted story, no action based combat. Pure JRPG like Final Fantasy used to be for the first 10 instalment (and none of the titles after these could beat any of them, and I doubt FFXVI will achieve this either). Expand

Final Fantasy VI is a masterpiece that is still better played in its SNES form rather than this Gatorade Frost looking remake. They thought:Final Fantasy VI is a masterpiece that is still better played in its SNES form rather than this Gatorade Frost looking remake. They thought: "The games look too dated for younger audiences so lets make them look as if they're dated ON PURPOSE like the indie games do".

How on Earth does making the sprites less detailed make them better? Nobody on the original dev team ever said "Let's make this game look pixelated as hell". Pixels were not the aesthetic you got when you played it through an old television, which is why a proper remaster of this game would be to add more detail, rather than taking it away, while being careful to stay true to the original look while not entering RPG Maker/Mobile game territory like the last remake did.

None of the "improvements" are necessary enough to play this version instead. An HP bar and restored content from the original Japanese version would've been nice too.

This was just Square Enix being lazy, ONCE AGAIN, with a re-release of an old classic.
