A next-gen visual novel with a wicked twist. Choose every line and every action. Go where you want, when you want. But remember, your classmates and teachers are watching!
Choices that really matter. Build and execute your strategy, but watch out: every decision has consequences.
NPCs with their own agendas. Other characters move around the school in real time. Will you mislead them? Avoid them? Blackmail them? Silence them? It's up to you.
Massively replayable. Each run can be wildly different. What you learn in one playthrough gives you new things to try in the next.

This game holds a fun, mysterious narrative with quirky characters. Expelled! will keep your attention for many hours.

Depending on how you play the story, you’ll solve Verity’s dilemma in a few hours. I had moments where I thought I had everything figured out and just needed to trigger the right dialogue options, but even still I wound up getting surprised more often than not. Expelled is a tightly wound narrative puzzle game that makes me excited that it’s labeled “An Overboard Game” because hopefully that means Inkle makes a game like this every few years to wrinkle my time-loop-loving brain and completely delight me.

If you haven’t already, though, play through Overboard! first. Just trust me on this and don’t ask any questions.

Expelled! puts an interesting twist on the format of a visual novel with some crackling dialogue and a cast of engaging frenemies. The key is to pinpoint their weakness and manipulate them to your own ends. However, the repetitive nature of the day means that you often feel forced into trial and error to unpick the solution, with logic sometimes taking a back seat and deja-vu discouraging you from saving Verity from herself.

Inkle studio should be praised for the whole concept. The characters are written really well, and each acquaintance has their own personality and way of speaking. That said, Expelled! is a neat experience, but something about the plot still didn't work for me even though I loved their Overboard! murder mystery.
