Never the same game twice. That's quite a promise. But it's the reason this classic continues to be the most popular game on college mainframe computers. ROGUE is so full of unpredictable monsters, ever-changing magic and hidden dangers that it's never the same game twice.
Enter the Dungeons of Doom. See for yourself. Try to find your way to the Amulet of Yendor, but don't bother mapping the rooms. They'll be different the next time. As a matter of fact, the Dungeons change every time you enter. So do the monsters. Remember that troll you fought on level 18? He might be an urvile next time. Or worse yet, a dragon. There's only one thing you can count on... your enchanted sword.
ROGUE. You could spend hundreds of hours playing it...and you still wouldn't uncover all its secrets.
ROGUE. The college mainframe classic finally comes to the home computer.

To be very clear here: This version of Rogue is a faithful port of a game that is around 40 years old at this point. That was three years before the original NES version of Final Fantasy (not the remakes), and even then this version is a graphical overlay over a game first released even earler, back in 1980. Rogue is very (very) close to the very first RPG ever made, and there is no way that this port is for anyone but the (very) nostalgic. At the same time, Rogue is such an influential game that the basic idea of it continues to power a significant chunk of modern releases. If you can find a way to enjoy how primitive it looks and the relative simplicity of its systems by modern standards, Rogue holds up almost shockingly well.

Look, we aren’t hurting for games of this genre on the Switch by any means. With that said, I think there is a certain purity to the original design that is worth experiencing for any fan of roguelikes and roguelites. If you’re game to challenge the classic test of nerves and wits, this Switch release of Epyx Rogue is a fine way to do it. Some effort was put in here to make the game work on an interface it very much was not designed for, and I genuinely appreciate the extra bits like the manual and achievements.
