    This is easily one of the most fun strategy/sim games I've played, and if you like British humor and/or imagining exactly what a Ghostato or Unicorn Bacon would taste like in real life, then add Epic Chef to your grocery list. It's magically delicious! [Issue #57 – January/February 2022, p. 20]

    Epic Chef, desarrollado por Infinigon Games y publicado por Team17, es un título entretenido con distintas actividades para hacer; susEpic Chef, desarrollado por Infinigon Games y publicado por Team17, es un título entretenido con distintas actividades para hacer; sus personajes tienen mucha personalidad y las situaciones son muy divertidas. Cuestiones como lo simple de algunas mecánicas y lo tardado que es su historia para evolucionar empañan algo la experiencia. A pesar de ello, es un juego que vale la pena darle una oportunidad.

To be clear, while I think it’s entertaining, has some great humor, and does enough to make it worth your while if you enjoy a good laugh, I’d also never claim it’s without its faults. It really gets off to a slow start, especially if you’re a farm sim veteran, and initially just getting around can be frustratingly time consuming as you get from point to point. To the game’s credit that gets addressed pretty quickly, but I’d say the game does a poor job of getting off to a strong start. The thing is, once it does manage to get into its groove with you cooking and competing for culinary dominance it has some good ideas that are generally well executed and is happy to throw some weird curveballs at you periodically to keep you amused. While perhaps a bit grindy (though it could be argued farm sims all struggle with this to some degree) and it could use some refinement in its pace up front to ensure everyone is invested to enjoy the rest, Epic Quest has a unique quality to it and delivers on its promise well enough to be worth a look, especially if you’d like to see a more light-hearted take on the farm sim genre.

Unfortunately, however, the buggyness and laziness in the port makes it less than the sum of its parts.

    As much as I loved this title going in, I found myself having to fight against the game itself in order to continue playing, stopping only when I encountered not one, but two game breaking bugs, rendering my 8+ hours of gameplay moot. Up until that point the excellent writing had me laugh out loud a couple of times, I had found my rhythm, and I was well on my way past a pivotal moment in the game.

    I guess I can add a small example of just how lazy the port is. Very early in the game, you are given a tool and told how to quickly equip it by dragging it to the shortcut bar. This information is false, since it only applies to the PC version with a mouse. What you actually do is hold the X button until a menu shows up, then you can assign the item to your bar. Again, the game doesn't tell you this, it actively mislead you, and you have to find out how to do it by trial and error. This is the level of competence you should expect going forward.

    As you can see, as much as I wanted to love the title, I cannot, in good conscience recommend it. I even joined metacritic just to put a review out there.    … Full Review »
