This game is simply amazing on the switch. It may not be on par with the other versions. But it still holds it own. The story is great and the zombies can be really scary in the night time.

    The side quest are great.
    Voice acting is done well.
    Combat very okay.

Dying Light on the switch is simply amazing. The game is still just as fun as it was when it originally launched and, except for a few bugs here and there, it runs super smooth both in handheld and on the tv. None of the bugs are game breaking and instead are just sometimes silly like a zombie randomly ragdolling into the air which honestly can be really entertaining to see. If you are a fan of the open world survival genre then this is a game you will want to pick up. Although being a few years old and on other plamforms this game is still great on the Switch. Its got alot of things to do and has alot of fun doing it. Graphics look better then i thought and it runs smooth. Yea its not 4k, but pulling games like The Witcher, both Dooms, all 3 Crysis games and now this game, i cant comeplain about anything that runs this well on a hybrid. I have never played Dying Light on any other platform and I am about 15 hours into the game and I have positive things to say about the quality of the Switch port and mixed things to say about the game itself. EDIT: Check below for an update after 40 hours of gameplay which increased the score I gave it.

The job they did on the Switch port: Decent graphics, impressive for a big game
I have never played Dying Light on any other platform and I am about 15 hours into the game and I have positive things to say about the quality of the Switch port and mixed things to say about the game itself. EDIT: Check below for an update after 40 hours of gameplay which increased the score I gave it.

The job they did on the Switch port:

Decent graphics, impressive for a big game like this. Some people might say it looks better handheld but I don't think it is very easy to see certain things. I like it much more docked and it looks so decent I forget I am playing a Switch port. There is some pop-in that can be kind of immersion breaking and some funky textures sometimes but nothing so criminal that it ruins the experience by any means.

Framerate & stability are surprisingly fluid as some of the pro reviews state. It is aiming for 30fps and it achieves at least that in most if not all situations, even when surrounded by undead. Online multiplayer works well too. Performance is honestly the least of my concerns with this game.

Lots of content with this Platinum package; DLC, expansion, multiplayer, bonus challenge modes. The value is there, especially considering it falls short of the typical full price for a game like this being ported to Switch.

    The actual game itself:

Fetch and errand quests galore. Much to the tune of Far Cry or Fallout games, you are constantly traversing across a dangerous map to do stuff for other people like some eager servant boy. It is mostly still an enjoyable time but when you stop to think about it, it is almost like a second job. "Why am I doing all this work in a video game?" And when you start looking at it that way, you start running and parkouring past the undead daywalkers like they are not even a threat, just a mild inconvenience in your path. I am playing on normal so maybe higher difficulties make the more basic class of zombies a bigger deal, but even on normal there are times where you can be seriously overwhelmed by the horde closing in on you, and it can make tasks like picking locks very tough to accomplish without drawing them to another area first. You still don't wanna go out at night on normal difficulty- Volatiles are pretty scary and can take some skill to defeat or evade.

The controls are pretty awkward but that is a game thing, not a port thing. I haven't tried gyro controls on this yet but the controls for jumping take a while to get used to but I kind of understand why they are how they are with all the parkour. The parkouring is pretty nice once you get the hang of it but I was having major motion sickness issues until I just played it enough to get used to it. If you feel the same way at first, I suggest to take a break but keep trying because eventually it really did go away for me and it saved the experience so far. Turning off Chromatic Aberration and Film Grain in the settings seemed to help me a lot personally too.

The RPG elements shine here with great skill tree upgrades, weapon crafting, repairing and upgrading, and plenty of side quests to earn massive chunks of XP. You level up a ton and get to allocate the points how you prefer. This is where it feels like Far Cry or Assassins Creed. Unfortunately the combat is not as tight or impressive but I think that this is more of a survival game than a combat game and in a way I appreciate that, but it does seem to further highlight the fetch quest nonsense. You're always doing *something* it just isn't always thrilling, but when it hits, it hits with pure bloody tension.

8/10 is fair but I would like to see a patch come out at some point just to clean things up. The port quality and RPG mechanics and sheer amount of content make it a good release that I recommend to Switch owners looking for a strong third party game and who are fans of Far Cry, Assassins Creed, and the modern Fallouts.

EDIT: After 40 hours of gameplay, I am starting to fall in love with the game and realize that the zombies can be much more challenging to fight as you are introduced to crazier situations, and have lately felt less like an inconvenience and more of a threat. I'm also enjoying unlocking new skills, and even the fetch quests I mentioned are showing a lot of variety and purpose now, so with all this considered I have changed my score from an 8 to a 9, and if they can clean up graphical issues like the pop-in and occasional strange textures, then I could give this a perfect 10 after a cosmetic patch update. I have so much left to do even after 40 hours, and I'm getting a ton of value out of the purchase.

Simply put, this is a phenomenal product! The visual fidelity is shockingly high and is often comparable to the PS4/Xbox One versions. Frame rate is mostly stable with the expected dip during more hectic moments, character models are crisp, high-poly, and very detailed, and the environments are gorgeous and immersive aside from some noticeable pop-in at times. The game itself has aged very well and is extremely addictive, in spite of a steep learning and generally high difficulty overall. All DLC is included right on the cartridge, which makes this a great value in terms of sheer content. The only real negative for this version is the inability to remap button inputs. The general layout is perfect for the pro controller, but the R button isn’t the most comfortable placement for a jump button and, even worse, clicking the left joy-con in to run in handheld mode is very clunky and rough on the hardware, unfortunately. Hopefully, this will be addressed in future patches. Expand

Best mobile port I have ever played in my life. If you love Dying Light and own a Switch, buy it. The fact that I can bash a zombies head in with a pipe and the blood rushes out the same as the others sells it for me. Just saying.

**Update** Beat the main storyline about 2 hours ago, and I can say this port is still just as amazing. I will definitely play through all of the bonus DLC, as

**Update** Beat the main storyline about 2 hours ago, and I can say this port is still just as amazing. I will definitely play through all of the bonus DLC, as I never had the chance to on my other console and PC versions. The latest update really improved performance and handheld resolution, (although, personally I liked the unlocked frame rate). The game looks and feels like the PS4 or XOne when playing in handheld or docked, but I primarily played in handheld and just got lost in it. (16 hours handheld playtime 4 hours TV) This game handles so well, I completely think it is worth the asking price, if you are on the fence, get it, you won't be disappointed.

Many ports on Nintendo have problems with the framerate and the optimization is very poor. Not this time! The game is very good, as the original one on PC, but this time on the small screen with few features which I personally LOVE

Still can't believe I had the same great experience and fun with this game on my Switch as a few years ago on my pc. The multiplayer is a bit buggy though. Got lots of crashes while trying to connect to other players game. They appeared to have patched this now but can't test myself as my NSO subscription has ended.

Graphics have obviously been toned down to accommodate the hardware, but what’s left still looks great. Immersion is a strong point for this game, so much so that I have to play something more light-hearted afterwards to calm my nerves. There’s a ton of content here too; I haven’t even checked out the DLC content, but look forward to it once I feel I’ve made a dent in the main game. Buy this! Expand

Phenomenal, entertaining and Gruesome. DLPE is a must play if you haven't played it. My first zombie game since ZombiU on the Wii U, which I also loved. However this game is leaps and bounds greater than that game. The large open world is highly detailed and immersive. The music and sounds are perfect. The graphics are amazing on the Switch also.

I could go on and on. Great game. 10.

The Switch has limitations, is a weak hardware so we have to set our minds to what we can expect from third party ports. Techland managed to deliver, more than I was actually expecting. Yes, the games shows the price it had to pay for being on Switch, but at the end we end up with a brilliant port of a open world action game full of enemies, that's impressive given the hardware. If you want a game that will scare you and make your sphincter tighten up then get this. The reason I give it 7/10 is because it gets boring too quickly. It can be a bit of a grind as well. But again. Not bad and performs well on switch.

Dying Light: Platinum Edition is a fantastic conversion to the Nintendo Switch, one which shows that it's possible to bring a technically ambitious game to this platform while delivering an engaging experience. With very competent mechanics, solid gameplay, and a demanding difficulty level, this version of Dying Light also includes all the additional content that has been made available since the game's original release. A true gem and a real example of what Nintendo Switch conversions should aspire to.

There aren’t really any other games like this on the Switch, so as long as you’re okay with — or at least willing to tolerate — visuals that pale in comparison to how they look elsewhere, then you’re in for one of the last gen’s best zombie games.
