    Digimon Survive is a wonderful blend of visual novel, tactical rpg, and mystery games. It does a wonderful job of blending multiple mechanics in a way that is unique and helps drive the story forward. This game is absolutely amazing in the way it takes choice based story telling to a new level with their combat system. If you enjoy a game with a deep enriching story that you can playDigimon Survive is a wonderful blend of visual novel, tactical rpg, and mystery games. It does a wonderful job of blending multiple mechanics in a way that is unique and helps drive the story forward. This game is absolutely amazing in the way it takes choice based story telling to a new level with their combat system. If you enjoy a game with a deep enriching story that you can play through multiple times, this is the game for you! The mechanics of the game are easy to learn too, so anyone can get into it, even if you’ve never played a game like it before.     Encuentro muy injusto que la gente esté dando notas negativas solo por ser una novela gráfica, la historia que cuenta es bastante interesante y si bien el gameplay es básico, no siento que necesite de más para lograr ser muy disfrutable.

    It's closer to a 5 but need to combat people giving it unwarranted 10s. While a novel effort, story is shallow.and for somerhing credited as a.visual novel it may be one of the least compelling i've ever played, with little to no player choice, bland characters, and a juvenile plot that misses what makes digimon deep.

    The story is great. Love the Bioware-esque consequence system. People complaining about genre should just go back and play that kind of game if that's what they're looking for.

    Aside from the long story which if you actually looked anything up you would've known it was a 7 to 3 ratio. This is what I always thought digimon could actually be, incredibly dark and twisted. The game can be balanced out by playing free battles to enjoy the combat and when you progress through the game the battles become much more fun as you fight stronger people.     An amazing story game with srpg elements. Highly recommended for visual novel fans as the art style and music is absolutely unreal and really captures the emotion of the story. Digimon Survive is a brilliant starting entry for Digimon into the srpg type of game and I hope there are more in the future.

    Interesting mix of VN and tactics. If you like these genre’s, you will love this game. The atmosphere and music are top notch and moving. I really enjoyed cyber sleuth and this is just another take on the digimon universe in a new form.
    If you enjoy tactics, Digimon and VN story building , play this game.

    Dont listen to the review bombs. They are upset about it not matching the earliest marketing concept statements (kind of). If you've paid any attention to the game closer to release you would know it is a visual novel with battles and if you bought it without knowing that, it is very much you're own fault for not looking into what you are buying as it was very easy to find info.     True to what they do. If you haven't watched any of the shows or played any of the games you would get it! If this is your first time then that's great to. There is nothing to complain about other than poor advertising. From day one they said it was a visual novel.

    Digimon sSurvive does a wonderful job at immersing you in its narrative, with gorgeous art and a story that would stand comfortably alongside any season of Digimon. This is my first time playing a game that is primarily a visual novel and it really has me feeling like I was part of the story and l carefully selecting my responses . Alongside that is the tactical rpg gameplay, which IDigimon sSurvive does a wonderful job at immersing you in its narrative, with gorgeous art and a story that would stand comfortably alongside any season of Digimon. This is my first time playing a game that is primarily a visual novel and it really has me feeling like I was part of the story and l carefully selecting my responses . Alongside that is the tactical rpg gameplay, which I though complimented the Digimon franchise very well. Thanks to my investment in the narrative it made my choices in battle feel that much more important. I honestly haven’t had a gameplay experience quite like this before!… Expand

    Really a perfect match for me, VN combined with exciting strategic combat. VN part is really top notch and the fighting is almost as good. The darker tone and great writing is a big plus, with English voice acting it would haver been a solid 9.

    They never hid the fact the game was a VN and a strat rpg with a 70/30 split. The vn side is so good I forget sometimes that I'm playing a game and instead I'm watching a new digimon anime.

    This is a fantastic game and really is making me rethink my stand of visual novels and tactical rpgs. I'm really enjoying it and would love more games like it with even more depth

    A totally enjoyable game, a visual novel that has their on story and it seems like an interactive book, really touching history and amazing game game play, nothing too complex. this is a good comeback for the digimon saga.

Now I have never played a visual novel game in my life, and play mostly fps/rpgs ( fortnite, cod, gta, god of war, horizon dawn, halo.. you get the point) so when I say I don’t like text heavy games I mean it.. except something happened. I had 0 interest in this game for the 3 years leading up to its release, I was extremely disappointed the next Digimon game was basically a story book video game.. until peoples pre order’s started arriving early and people were praising it.. I got intrigued and started watching some twitch videos.. fast forward to last Friday and I was at Best Buy buying 1 of the only 2 copies left.. This game has me hooked. It is very dialogue heavy, but I knew that. I went into this game with 0 expectations of a good game and have been blown away. I wanted to support the Digimon ip and I’m glad I did.

    I’m only several hours into it, just starting chapter 2. But the characters have me fully invested, they did a great job introducing the characters, aswell as introducing the Digimon. The story is moving along at a decent pace, and the exploration and battles are a nice break every so often, but doesn’t pull you away long enough to lose interest, compared to say cyber sleuth where you were running around doing pointless missions 90% of the time that had no bearing on the main story. As somebody with ADHD I fully expected myself to not enjoy this game, but man was I wrong. You can fully skip dialogue sections, or simply fast forward, which for someone like me who reads to fast is great, because now I can go ahead quicker, without feeling rushed or slow down by anything or go slower if feel and just take my time. I’m loving this game. It’s exactly what I expected yet nothing what I expected at the same time. I’m glad I took the plunge and while I can’t say I’d be excited for another game like this, I am excited to see where Digimon goes next.    … Expand

    There are some bits where the translation just isn't great or the wording is just a bit too "hip", and definitely doesn't feel perfectly    It's a good 70:30 split on Visual Novel format and TBS gameplay, and honestly that works for it. The story is a really great take on the classic Digimon isekai formula, and really adds a nice mixture into how your actions affect you and your partner.

    Great addition to the Digimon series. Love the visual novel elements, your choices really feel like they matter. You really feel for the characters as the story progresses. The RPG combat is also great fun as well. Would highly recommend

    This game is absolutely living up to the expectations 4 years of delays and silence on updates built up.
    The art and music are absolutely gorgeous: it's like watching a new season of the anime, following similar story beats including fun climactic battles and as advertised the game is mostly visual novel whereas the battles take a more conclusive role to some story arcs.

    The game takes the character archetypes Adventure layed out as well as the narrative mysteries and twists them into interesting new variations, providing a more realistic take on the setting of seven kids getting lost in another world with monsters. The result is something like Lord of the Flies, where the kids constantly argue and some even start to lose their grip on reality. It's refreshingly raw for the Digimon franchise and goes to some unexpectedly dark places in the storytelling.
    This game is a triumph for Digimon fans, servicing us with the mature story for the fans who grew up with the franchise that we always wanted.    … Expand

    This game is first and foremost a visual novel, if you don't like that you most likely won't like this game.

    I really enjoyed the TRPG bits and well and wish the game had more of that type of gameplay that's actually what makes me put a 8 on the game instead of higher, I feel it would be more of a game of it was a 50/50 cut between TRPG and visual novel.

    Overall a great game, don't mind visual novels? Love digimon? Then you will probably have a good time, it's almost like playing a digimon anime.    … Expand

    What did people expect when they buy this game? It's a visual novel and not a shooter, the story is great with some unexpected turns. The most negative "reviews" are the ones that don't know what they buy, they would cry when they buy a book because it has words in it.

Well they say visual novel but it's more like choose your own adventure. There are three options you can pick from & they all goes twords your karma points. Some of these choices effect how the other characters are towards you & other effect the outcome of either your Agumon's evaluation or the ending you will get. You have Mora(good), Harmony (neutral) or Wreath(bad). They also effect what type of digimon you can recruit more easily. Now for the battle's. If you have ever played Fire Emblem. Then you should know how the battle's are played out. You pick which digimon from your group you want to battle with. Then move in a grid to get closer to the enemy to attack. You have your basic attack move(i.e. claws) or special moves (i.e pepper breath) your special moves cost sp to use.(think pp from Pokemon) Now this game will get dark. Habu has stated that on your first playthrough you can't save everyone. But after that you will unlock a secret ending. So replay ability so a go for this game. This game is excellent and the detail they used on applying real world relatable themes such as the diversity in a person personality and how different perspectives would react to it a given situation. The dark theme was meshed wonderfully enough to anyone whose paying attention and can put together the story ignoring the translation errors, but any case I digress 10.0 and worth the three year wait. The only thing that would and can make this game better would be constant DLC for the game paid and non paid.… Expand

    Now, onto the review! It's different from other Digimon games, and I've found I love it! I'm currently at chapter 10 in the game, and have gotten really invested in it. It's got the dark feeling of Tamers and is certainly geared towards adults, as you can actually get characters killed in this game. The characters are charming for the most part (except for one character everyone has collectively decided to hate, and for good reason), and the story is pretty good! The karma system is predicable after a while, but that's great if you're trying to go for a certain ending or a certain branch in Agumon's growth (you can mix up vaccine, data, and virus just so you know). There is combat in the game, both as free battles (the main way to recruit wild Digimon, and get items, and through the story itself. I highly recommend grinding the free battles for levels, as some fights can get tricky depending on your team's setup. Keep in mind though that combat is only 30% of the game. There's two issues I have with this game.

    First is the localization (though this is nothing new with Digimon games, sadly). From chapter 5 and onwards, female Digimon (according to their profiles) are given masculine pronouns. It's not a big issue, but it's a bit annoying. Secondly, the poor marketing. I got a physical copy here in the USA, and didn't get a preorder code for the special DLC Guilmon. They should have said which retailers do this, and which don't, and if you needed digital or physical up front. As a result, I'll have to wait for Guilmon to be released later as PAID DLC.

    Overall, if you're looking for a game with a story, that feels like an anime, and don't mind reading, and aren't too bummed out on less combat, this is the game for you! If you're looking for a game that's just a mindless button mashing fighter, and has little-to-no story or dialog, this is not the game for you.

    Do note that if you're getting the switch version, do NOT play it docked! People are reporting a dip in FPS. Play it handheld instead, and you won't have this problem.

    My score is a 9/10. I love this game, but am disappointed that my physical switch game doesn't come with the Guilmon DLC due to their poor marketing involving this. Here's hoping they'll correct their mistake in the future, as so many of us were left confused.    … Expand

    If you like visual novels you will like this game. If you like strategy RPG combat. You will like this game. If you are only here for the combat though, this might be a tough sell. The game has a wonderful horror element and the story telling is excellent paired with the strategy combat.

    People are so petty. This is a very decent visual novel, smashed together with an FFT game, and coated in horror paint. I love this direction and if the developers are out there: please keep going this way. I love the story heavy stuff; make a new keychain bobble for all the nerds that are bellyaching about not getting a one dimensional PS1 era monster-raising sim. Ffs.

I mean, the artstyle is quite nice and beautiful, but i wanted to fight with my digimon, run around and explore the world (not particular an open world). Here i have to watch the people talk in an stiff style, only to click them with the "a" button away. I am sad thatSo, i love digimon and couldn't wait to play this, but the realization hit me hard.     The game is great, ignore the negative reviews. They are made by people who clearly dislike reading. This is a visual novel so of course it's going to be text heavy, and that is a good thing since the story is one of the best aspects of Digimon Survive.

    One of the best Digimon games we've received, and definitely the best out of the ones that are so dialogue-heavy, in my opinion. Gorgeous visuals, wonderful music, intriguing characters who drive the story, and several different modes of play.     Poor marketing on bandaid for this game. Not explainibg the visual novel, story telling aspect of the game. Characters are more well define than any of the cyber sleuth series. And that is the point. This game was made to tell a horror / suspense story. Credits to the devs for including a cast of non traditional Protagonist digimon.

Ignore the review bombing. Those are mostly salty players who obviously have no idea what the game is supposed to be. It was made clear that the game was going to be majorly a VN more than an RPG/tactics game. TheNever got into the VN genre of video games. But this pulled me right in.     This game is a 100% buy if you know what to expect. Expect lots of dialogue. Expect your choices to matter and the story to matter a lot. You get to battle often but it's not a combatic game first off. This game's focus is on the story, the dialogue, friendship, bonds, and player choice. If you can get into that, I highly recommend this game. It has everything you'd expect in a VN. The voice acting is lovely, the immersive writing is great and engaging and the characters are interesting, even while some may be better than others.

    The battle aspects are fun and easy to play with. Boss battles are far more fun than other basic battles but even those can be fun with befriending new digimon and grinding. They're a great break from the story elements that can definitely be heavy on your brain, so go do some free battles to give yourself a break here and there as the story doesn't really take days off from being pretty heavy emotionally.

    It pains me to see the negative reviews because you can tell the game has been crafted with love and care. The negative reviews have a lot in common in that they're all from those who didn't know what the game was before really purchasing it. Please do your research on the game first -- if you're interested in the game, it'll hit all your expectations. If you want to play an RPG, check out Cyber Sleuth.

    PS -- Knocking a point off for one specific character and his treatment of a special, precious bean. It honestly infuriated me (sign of good writing in a good game, in fairness). I wish I could have done more in the game to avoid a certain event happening. I believe you can in new game+ but it is still infuriating I had to sit idle and watch as this character did these things to the precious bean. It ruined my mood for many hours lol. If it were real life, that guy would have had issues with me far before this event. I didn't like how that aspect was constantly ignored without worry from the cast.    … Expand

    This game is being review bombed for being exactly what it was advertised.

    It is a visual novel, and a good one at that. The story, characters and visuals are excellent, and the tactics parts are fun and fulfilling.

    As a long term digimon fan, I am not disappointed.

    Keep in mind that this IS a horror game, if that makes you uncomfortable I don't recommend playing. It's very good though.

    For other part, Takuma doesn't compl as a character or as an avatar, and it's hard to connect with him. There is no female lead character as in the case of Cyber ​​Sleuth or Next Order.

    Regarding the story, it is poorly worked and the translations in parts are poorly done.
    I feel that 4 years gave them time to think well about the plot, but not respected the basic concept of digimon (digital beings) and treated them as ghosts/spirits.

The visuals look really cool, I've not played too many visual novels so I won't be able to say whether they look better or worse. But the character portraits do a really good job at making the characters feel like people. The animations are pretty limited but are present enough as to not make these sections boring. Overall as someone who has played many a digimon game, this one is a welcome change of pace. If you are a fan of the digimon franchise you'll find something for you here if not there will be a lot to love and dislike. The battles take place on a grid field that you move your digimon units and attack the enemies. It’s simple but it gets the job done. You can equip items or different skills but it’s either and/or if each as two is the max. I didn’t care about the battles so luckily there is an auto battle option you can use to choose how they auto fight. Using the auto fight, the AI made great choices I only took control when there were important battles as battles can be speed up when on auto. I found the battle speed to be on the slow end.

    Story:
    This is were Digimon Survive excels at and this is what Adventure 2020 should have been. You can tell all the effort was put into the story from the world building to the difficult choices you have to make throughout the story. In my opinion it was well written and made me care about the characters even the annoying ones as well as their digital companions. In its core this is Digimon and one of the best story so far as these middle schoolers and upper class men get transported to a mysterious island of unknown origin were they fend of foes, explore the land and grow as a person as they try to survive on this mysterious land. You can see the tribute of Digimon adventure to some extent in the story.

    Graphics/sound: I was impressed with the visuals and soundtrack.

    Overall, if you don’t mind reading a book and are a fan of Digimon, this is a must play. You won’t regret it. It’s a solid Digimon story experience with a mediocre battle system but the story makes up for it. It’s not perfect but it’s great only thing wrong I see is that their is no English voice over since it’s sub like cybersleuth.    … Expand

    For a VNs Digimon game, it is fun!! The game is not for everyone if you are not a fan of a lot of reading. I played many VNs before, and I have to say Digimon Survive has an amazing story! You can see how each character develops as you play the game.

    Ovall definitely recommends you enjoy a game with a good story! Be warned...there will be a certain characters that makes you want to slap    For a VNs Digimon game, it is fun!! The game is not for everyone if you are not a fan of a lot of reading. I played many VNs before, and I have to say Digimon Survive has an amazing story! You can see how each character develops as you play the game.

    Great game! The VN is amazing and the story is really cool. The combat is like FF Tactics and Fire Emblem which I like really like. Got my teen girls into the game and they fell in love with the story and they like the combat since they have played Fire Emblem games before.

    Simple don't go in to this expecting a action game, this isn't Cyber sleuth/hackers memory, Next order or the world series.

    It's a visual novel with tactical RPG game play which I'm not a huge fan of either but this game blends it perfectly and the story just drags you in. It's definitely not a game for younger kids.

    Since its a jumble between 2 genres that are difficult to combine successfully (VN and Tactical RPG), which means that it cannot stand out surprisingly in both as if it were individually with each.
    As a graphic novel, the characters almost lack any animation or mobility, being NPG's that only move their mouths (and occasionally, the    A big hardpass for the fans of Digimon as a tamer game.

    Digimon Survive should have a lot of depth, with partner Digimon evolving and devolving, free-roaming Digimon to recruit, and a vibrant cast of characters who, on the surface, are generally enjoyable. Looking at the game from afar, it truly captures a feeling of desolation and nostalgia. But it comes up just short when it comes to gameplay and story—the two most important things for an SRPG and visual novel hybrid. A “Truthful” path awaits as a New Game+ option, but the gameplay shortcomings, unfortunately, aren’t alleviated with repeat playthroughs. Digimon Survive‘s charms aren’t fleeting by any means, but neither are its disappointments.

    I love visual novels, and I love strategy games. For a subsection of gamers, Digimon Survive will hit the perfect sweet spot between both of those. It’s got everything you’d expect from a digestible entry with a focus on presentation. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the game is just shy of greatness. Make no mistake, Digimon Survive is good. However, despite its best efforts, I found that the pacing drags and the combat mechanics are unremarkable. If you have enough patience to engage with its story and gameplay, the positives will far outweigh the negatives. It’s flawed, but the heart shines through and it goes down easy thanks to being one of the best-looking anime-style games released in years. Are there better SRPGs to play right now? Sure, but none offer Digimon’s unique brand of SRPG and I think it hits more than it misses.
