    This game was CLEARLY ADVERTISED as a visual novel game. They explicitly stated it was 70/30. Now I have never played a visual novel game in my life, and play mostly fps/rpgs ( fortnite, cod, gta, god of war, horizon dawn, halo.. you get the point) so when I say I don’t like text heavy games I mean it.. except something happened. I had 0 interest in this game for the 3 years leading up toThis game was CLEARLY ADVERTISED as a visual novel game. They explicitly stated it was 70/30. I had 0 interest in this game for the 3 years leading up to its release, I was extremely disappointed the next Digimon game was basically a story book video game.. until peoples pre order’s started arriving early and people were praising it.. I got intrigued and started watching some twitch videos.. fast forward to last Friday and I was at Best Buy buying 1 of the only 2 copies left.. This game has me hooked. It is very dialogue heavy, but I knew that. I went into this game with 0 expectations of a good game and have been blown away. I wanted to support the Digimon ip and I’m glad I did.

    I’m only several hours into it, just starting chapter 2. But the characters have me fully invested, they did a great job introducing the characters, aswell as introducing the Digimon. The story is moving along at a decent pace, and the exploration and battles are a nice break every so often, but doesn’t pull you away long enough to lose interest, compared to say cyber sleuth where you were running around doing pointless missions 90% of the time that had no bearing on the main story. As somebody with ADHD I fully expected myself to not enjoy this game, but man was I wrong. You can fully skip dialogue sections, or simply fast forward, which for someone like me who reads to fast is great, because now I can go ahead quicker, without feeling rushed or slow down by anything or go slower if feel and just take my time. I’m loving this game. It’s exactly what I expected yet nothing what I expected at the same time. I’m glad I took the plunge and while I can’t say I’d be excited for another game like this, I am excited to see where Digimon goes next.    … Expand

    Great game! The VN is amazing and the story is really cool. The combat is like FF Tactics and Fire Emblem which I like really like. Got my teen girls into the game and they fell in love with the story and they like the combat since they have played Fire Emblem games before.

    For a VNs Digimon game, it is fun!! The game is not for everyone if you are not a fan of a lot of reading. I played many VNs before, and I have to say Digimon Survive has an amazing story! You can see how each character develops as you play the game.

    Ovall definitely recommends you enjoy a game with a good story! Be warned...there will be a certain characters that makes you want to slap    For a VNs Digimon game, it is fun!! The game is not for everyone if you are not a fan of a lot of reading. I played many VNs before, and I have to say Digimon Survive has an amazing story!     Digimon Survive is the first Digimon game in the franchise that is a mix of a graphic novel with light strategy rpg elements in the battle system. This being a graphic novel first so expect a lot of reading. If you don’t like to read for hours avoid this game and don’t like subs.

    Gameplay:
    This game is mostly a click and search for items as well as selecting choices throughout the story. There are battles scattered through out or you can choose free battles and keep battling until you are done grinding for levels, items and even recruiting digimon. The battles take place on a grid field that you move your digimon units and attack the enemies. It’s simple but it gets the job done. You can equip items or different skills but it’s either and/or if each as two is the max. I didn’t care about the battles so luckily there is an auto battle option you can use to choose how they auto fight. Using the auto fight, the AI made great choices I only took control when there were important battles as battles can be speed up when on auto. I found the battle speed to be on the slow end.

    Story:
    This is were Digimon Survive excels at and this is what Adventure 2020 should have been. You can tell all the effort was put into the story from the world building to the difficult choices you have to make throughout the story. In my opinion it was well written and made me care about the characters even the annoying ones as well as their digital companions. In its core this is Digimon and one of the best story so far as these middle schoolers and upper class men get transported to a mysterious island of unknown origin were they fend of foes, explore the land and grow as a person as they try to survive on this mysterious land. You can see the tribute of Digimon adventure to some extent in the story.

    Graphics/sound: I was impressed with the visuals and soundtrack.

    Overall, if you don’t mind reading a book and are a fan of Digimon, this is a must play. You won’t regret it. It’s a solid Digimon story experience with a mediocre battle system but the story makes up for it. It’s not perfect but it’s great only thing wrong I see is that their is no English voice over since it’s sub like cybersleuth.    … Expand

    Simple don't go in to this expecting a action game, this isn't Cyber sleuth/hackers memory, Next order or the world series.

    It's a visual novel with tactical RPG game play which I'm not a huge fan of either but this game blends it perfectly and the story just drags you in. It's definitely not a game for younger kids.

The music, characters, world and tone are all varied and really engaging. The length of the game, the multiple routes, and the collecting and using of various digimon is already enough for the $60 price point. Factor in a wonderful story full of ups and downs, smiles and tears and an overarching mystery that sets a dismal but optimistic tone throughout the story.

    This game is a 100% buy if you know what to expect. Expect lots of dialogue. Expect your choices to matter and the story to matter a lot. You get to battle often but it's not a combatic game first off. This game's focus is on the story, the dialogue, friendship, bonds, and player choice. If you can get into that, I highly recommend this game. It has everything you'd expect in a VN. The voice acting is lovely, the immersive writing is great and engaging and the characters are interesting, even while some may be better than others.

    The battle aspects are fun and easy to play with. Boss battles are far more fun than other basic battles but even those can be fun with befriending new digimon and grinding. They're a great break from the story elements that can definitely be heavy on your brain, so go do some free battles to give yourself a break here and there as the story doesn't really take days off from being pretty heavy emotionally.

    It pains me to see the negative reviews because you can tell the game has been crafted with love and care. The negative reviews have a lot in common in that they're all from those who didn't know what the game was before really purchasing it. Please do your research on the game first -- if you're interested in the game, it'll hit all your expectations. If you want to play an RPG, check out Cyber Sleuth.

    PS -- Knocking a point off for one specific character and his treatment of a special, precious bean. It honestly infuriated me (sign of good writing in a good game, in fairness). I wish I could have done more in the game to avoid a certain event happening. I believe you can in new game+ but it is still infuriating I had to sit idle and watch as this character did these things to the precious bean. It ruined my mood for many hours lol. If it were real life, that guy would have had issues with me far before this event. I didn't like how that aspect was constantly ignored without worry from the cast.    … Expand

    Great game. It was correctly advertised as a vn, and i bought it knowing that, because i greatly enjoy them and it's a very well made one.

    Awsome game. It’s like I’m playing a Digimon Anime. Really good story, very imersive. Adds a lot to the franchise. But, Be warned. The game is mainly focused on the narative and Visual Novel elements. It’s not a regular RPG.

    I’m not a big fan of visual novels, but the story really pulled me in in this game. The combat is really great and the art is absolutely beautiful. I really hope this becomes a series.

    What did people expect when they buy this game? It's a visual novel and not a shooter, the story is great with some unexpected turns. The most negative "reviews" are the ones that don't know what they buy, they would cry when they buy a book because it has words in it.

    La historia va a sorprender a mas de uno , llegando a tener toques mas maduros de lo que uno puede pensar. Plot twist y situaciones que a mas de uno dejará con la boca abierta porque nadie se lo va a esperar.
    Y un factor muy importante, tus decisiones afectarán a la trama así como a la evolución de los digimons.
    Aquellos fans de digimon y de las visual novels recomendadisimo de jugarlo

Digimon Survive has more animation, better character writing and more engaging lines than in almost any other contemporaryAs you may have noticed, Digimon Survive has been getting review bombed here compared to other review sites like Steam or Backloggd. Ignore the 0/10 spammers. The marketing made it clear the game would be mostly a visual novel and it absolutely delivers on that front. On top of that a good 40% to 50% of the game is solid SRPG goodness with over 113 possible Digimon to get, which is exceptional variety in this genre.     This game has a great story and when the battles do come up they're a lot of fun. It's a lot of reading and narrative mostly, but it's all done very well.
    Digimon Survive is an awesome game. It is one of the best visual novels you can get.

The Tactical RPG is there in all combat but the main story driving device is a visual novel. To that point, the characters are well designed and fleshed out, y. You quickly find yourself attached to your group of chosen and their partner Digimon.     The biggest problem to this game is that you pay $60 for a game where there isn't much actual gaming, you get to see a lot of story and make decisions. For me personally, it isn't worth $60 because of that. It is quite lengthy. I haven't gotten to the end of it yet, and I've probably put 12 hours into it.     However, the actual story is great and it is full of twists, turns and darkness. The art is great and satisfies you from an aesthetic stand point. I thoroughly enjoy playing it despite its drawbacks.

This game is excellent and the detail they used on applying real world relatable themes such as the diversity in a person personality and how different perspectives would react to it a given situation. The dark theme was meshed wonderfully enough to anyone whose paying attention and can put together the story ignoring the translation errors, but any case I digress 10.0 and worth the three year wait. The only thing that would and can make this game better would be constant DLC for the game paid and non paid.… Expand

    Digimon Survive should have a lot of depth, with partner Digimon evolving and devolving, free-roaming Digimon to recruit, and a vibrant cast of characters who, on the surface, are generally enjoyable. Looking at the game from afar, it truly captures a feeling of desolation and nostalgia. But it comes up just short when it comes to gameplay and story—the two most important things for an SRPG and visual novel hybrid. A “Truthful” path awaits as a New Game+ option, but the gameplay shortcomings, unfortunately, aren’t alleviated with repeat playthroughs. Digimon Survive‘s charms aren’t fleeting by any means, but neither are its disappointments.

    With its mature themes, Digimon Survive provides a refreshing take on the franchise and fits into the series' canon in a really cool way. I hope we get more Digimon games exploring new directions like this! [Issue #63 – January/February 2023, p. 73]

    I love visual novels, and I love strategy games. For a subsection of gamers, Digimon Survive will hit the perfect sweet spot between both of those. It’s got everything you’d expect from a digestible entry with a focus on presentation. However, I couldn’t help but feel that the game is just shy of greatness. Make no mistake, Digimon Survive is good. However, despite its best efforts, I found that the pacing drags and the combat mechanics are unremarkable. If you have enough patience to engage with its story and gameplay, the positives will far outweigh the negatives. It’s flawed, but the heart shines through and it goes down easy thanks to being one of the best-looking anime-style games released in years. Are there better SRPGs to play right now? Sure, but none offer Digimon’s unique brand of SRPG and I think it hits more than it misses.
