Dex is an excellent take on a cyberpunk Deus Ex game, and it managed to accomplish that with a smaller development budget. The characters and world are fun and engaging, and there's clearly a lot of love that went into the title. The combat is plentiful but lackluster, but if you don't mind having to push through dull combat to reach the better parts of the game, then you'll like a lot about Dex. It might not be Deus Ex on the Nintendo Switch, but it's a lot closer than you might think.

Dex is a well-made game, packing all the features you'd expect from a cyberpunk adventure. If that sounds like damning it with faint praise, it isn't. There's passion here for its world, and while you'll find it familiar territory if you've ever seen a cyberpunk game before, it's always fun to get your hands dirty and dig into its seedy, nasty little world. Fans of both RPGs and Metroidvanias should find something to like here. A compelling little mash-up that takes a little time to reveal its charms, but definitely delivers if you've got the patience for it.

Dex lacks in some areas, but I think the overall experience was pretty enjoyable. Being able to make your own choices and have different outcomes adds a lot of replay value. (Not a game for kids)

As a game, Dex’s progression mechanics and choose-your-own-adventure style of exploration and story-telling make it an interesting and worthwhile diversion. The main story doesn’t achieve the greatest of heights, and the different possible endings are a little lackluster, but there’s enough substance in the journals, emails, and character interactions to push you all the way through. The combat could stand to be a little more engaging; as it is, it feels more like just a means to an end, but the shoot-’em-up like hacking mazes add satisfying, albeit challenging, depth. Greater accessibility options would have been a nice addition to the Switch port of this 2015 PC title, but it does enough to justify a space on your digital shelf if you’re a fan of 2D narrative-heavy action games or future-noir RPGs. Just don’t expect it to hold your cybernetic hand.

Dex is gorgeous to look at, has a captivating story to engage in and is downright frustrating when you need to fight your way out of danger.

With a phenomenal Cyberpunk aesthetic and fantastic characters, Dex is close to being an incredible experience. Lackluster combat and hacking let it down, but it still has a lot to offer for fans of the grim Sci-fi setting.

While Dex may have a few flaws overall, it is a solid game that is filled with freedom to play how you want as you uncover the secrets of Harbour Prime.
  8. Offering a surprising combination of Deus Ex and Metroid, Dex is a good alternative for those who are waiting for Cyberpunk 2077. Although it is not a classic with bulky fighting mechanics and cliché story, this game deserves the attention of Nintendo Switch gamers.

DEX delights and disappoints in ways that it feels only DEX can. The neo-noir, dystopian open world grabs your attention from the get-go, yet its grip loosens as the marvellous makes way for the mundane. What a shame.

The combat system is frustrating. It is street brawler type button mashing but without even being able to move up and down. It is only 2d side scroller and they expect u to block constantly and punch every enemy 20+ times? It has multiple dialogue options but they all have the same result. Why bother choosing your answer if it doesn't effect anything?
I knew it was 2d but I expect it to just be more playable. The combat is unnecessarily clunky and the dialogue not creating different outcomes also feels sloppy and pointless. I have only played for a few minutes and I don't want to try anymore. It just isn't fun. I am mad that I bought this on sale for $2.
On the plus side, it made me so annoyed that i wrote a review. I always intend to do that with games I like, but don't. I recognize I should have an accurate metric for deciding the numerical score. In this case, I want to give it a zero because it's so frustrating I don't want to play the first 5 minutes more than 3 times. However, I recognize Im being a baby and maybe it gets better with time. So I am giving it 1 instead of 0.

I am a fan of cyberpunk titles and I love the idea of dystopian settings. I thought the overall premise of the title was intriguing, but nothing I have not seen before.

I enjoyed the storyline a good amount. I found Dex and her crew of hackers to be redeeming and likeable characters. I thoroughly enjoyed the voice acting as well and found myself very attached to Dex by the end of title. Interactions with NPCs were also fascinating and my favorite aspect of the game.
