Devil May Cry 3: Special Edition for Nintendo Switch is the best version of the game so far, but this piece of gaming history is beginning to show its age.

While it was disappointing to see some of the game's old issues still present, the combat is still impressive enough to make up for it. Those who've played Devil May Cry 3 before should have a good time playing around with the FreeStyle and Co-op modes, but everyone else may find it difficult to get past gameplay issues that should have been fixed years ago.

Devil May Cry 3 is still good and this version on Nintendo Switch is a good opportunity to (re)dive into this Dantesque universe. The possibility to change style on the fly brings modernity to the gameplay which is always enjoyable, even if the camera remains capricious. However, even though Devil May Cry 3 is a very good game, it’s starting to show signs of old age visually. Fortunately, Dante for his part, is still in shape!

Compared to the last eight years, the Osaka company has finally reworked gameplay to refresh some now obsolete features, but not everything has enjoyed a well-deserved restyling. For example, the menus are still the same as they used to be and the pre-rendered cutscenes do not honor the most iconic moments of the adventure.

DMC3 is still a very good Beat'em Up, and adds a cooperative mode to the Switch Version, but the remaster is very, very lazy.

Devil May Cry 3: Dante's Awakening is a terrific game that has aged astonishingly well, a fact that becomes clear within moments of playing it today. A good excuse to play it today is Devil May Cry 3 Special Edition, which recently came to Switch. It's the same excellent game with the addition of a weapon/style switching mechanic, practically the one thing it needed to stand next to its modern sequels. The Special Edition is the best version of an already great game. Can't say fairer than that.
