Sep 18, 2024Overall, CRYPT CUSTODIAN is a solid platformer with easy to learn mechanics, a fun world to explore, and plenty of things to do.

Aug 28, 2024Yet, despite this, I enjoyed playing Crypt Custodian; despite the setting in Afterlife, it’s a soothing story that can tug on you at times. I liked its themes of forging new friends in the most unexpected of places and how sweet it feels at most points. It also gave off a fun Metroidvania adventure-like theme that reminds me of classic Zelda titles.

Sep 3, 2024Crypt Custodian is a game about a cute kitten with a little broom who has to clean up the afterlife. Crypt Custodian is also an excellent metroidvania that doesn’t push any boundaries, but it does understand exactly what makes the genre so good: a cute kitten with a little broom.

Aug 28, 2024Overall, Crypt Custodian is a pretty traditional Metroidvania elevated by its fantastic world, aesthetic, characters, and soundtrack, with solid combat and a lot of build flexibility. These aspects all help alleviate some visual clutter issues and frame rate hiccups, ensuring that Crypt Custodian shouldn't end up lost in the eShop bargain bin like so many other Metroidvanias.

Sep 10, 2024You could make an argument for any one part of Crypt Custodian being the thing that holds it together — the writing, the tactful platforming, or even the somber-yet-delightful world design. But while no single part stands out, these disconnected parts make the whole world worth exploring, experiencing – and yes, cleaning – to its very end.
