That same day i got home from work, booted up my switch in docked mode and started playing Crosscode, 10 hours went by and i craved more.

The story is well written, the atmosphere of the world is superb. The characters suck you in and you feel involved with all missions. The pixelated graphics is excellent, game play is fun, side missions is interesting and doesn't feel like a chore, upgrade skill tree is interesting .

All in all Crosscode is on par with Zelda Breath of The Wild and the only issue is with lag issues in the Menus and when you enter a busy town. Why this wasn't fixed before release i will never understand.

Well worth playing Crosscode. Well done Radical Fish Games.

Tight platforming and combat, satisfying (if challenging) puzzles, and only a sprinkling of grinding (for the completionists; entirely optional). The story is intriguing, too. Obviously gorgeous with a nostalgic-though strong-score. I'm 19 hours in and hooked.

In some ways this game outshines even the Zelda series - it's among the greatest and most underrated games ever made.

The controls and level scheme allows for some replayability. You can choose to be melee, ranged, or a hybrid of the two. You can switch up what elements you focus. And while run of the mill quests and characters are disappointing in a beautiful game and a solid main story, the main draw to Crosscode is the combat and puzzles.

Puzzles are hard to the point where it can slow the playthrough down. That can be a good thing--but if you ever take a break from the game, you will have a hard time picking it back up because of all the nuances involved with each puzzle, whether it be platforming or objects you interact with. Combat has a satisfying level of difficulty as well.

All in all, a super solid game that translated very well to the switch.

Every map has a secret, some requiring you to backtrack. The game has a very deep bestiary rivalling the best like FFXII, and a rich but cleanly executed loot trading/item crafting system. Crosscode out-Zeldas some Zelda games, and provides the exhilaration of Hyper Light Drifter's combat, all wrapped up in a nice and comfy JRPG blanket. At USD20 for easily 60-80 hours of enjoyable content, this game is a must get for fans of the JRPG genre. What an excellent game. I love it deeply and can't recommend it enough. Expand

Pure retro heaven but a modern take on it, it's a shooter/fighter JRPG all tied together in a brilliant package, I already double dipped on this with the Switch and XB1 versions, it's that good.

A common thread among negative reviews of CrossCode seems to be the difficulty of the puzzles and the level of precision they require. Personally, I think that represents one of this game's main strengths: At no point during my playthrough of this game did I feel like the game was holding my hand. It treats the player with respect and never insults your intelligence. On the contrary: it demands that you learn its mechanics, and it is the first game I've played in a long while that had puzzles that felt challenging. Not cheap, not unnecessarily time-consuming, but challenging.

The Switch version does seem to have stability issues. Moving in a way where your party members can't keep up can cause the game to lag, as does having too many particle effects (which, given late-game AOE attacks, happens very easily) and the game tends to crash after cutscenes, especially towards the end (this doesn't cause any significant loss of progress, since the game autosaves before cutscenes).

Everything else, I would say, is unquestionably great. Whether you like it or not will come down entirely to taste. The art style is great, the characters are believable, the story does what it needs to do, the music slaps, and the gameplay is as polished as it is demanding.

9/10 A great experience all around but the Switch version specifically has its weaknesses.

    Negative:

    - Some difficulty spikes, mind your equipment

    - Crashes every so often, though the generous auto-save means you should lose at most 5 minutes of game play

    - Isometric art direction makes platforming somewhat confusing at times; tip: use the VRP aim guides to check platform heights

A very competently made game which gives the feeling of the developers completely fulfilling their vision. I found the combat to be a little too fast-paced, but also enjoyable. There are some minor performance issues at unexpected times (navigating the menu even), but they don't often impact the game play so weren't really an issue.

As a whole, CrossCode is a great game with a memorable story and great combat. It makes a great transition from the PC to the Switch aside from a few minor technicalities, and now players can enjoy this game on the go. The gameplay is a joy, taking the Zelda and Secret of Mana styles of gameplay and evolving it into something much better. However, the bombardment of puzzles throughout the game will turn off those who prefer more ‘action’ in their RPG formula. Nonetheless, this game provides a unique experience with plenty of the MMO-esque options and an incredible sense of world-building that will leave players with plenty to do and explore.

I very much enjoyed my trip to the CrossWorlds, much more than I ever did my trips to the World of Warcraft. The game is jam-packed with content, giving you upwards of 50 to 60 hours of enjoyment in your first playthrough. There are secrets galore to find, items to trade, and combat skills to master. However, the game never quite drew me in as much as I hoped when I first started playing, primarily due to the story issues. In the end, CrossCode is a slightly flawed action RPG masterpiece and an absolute stunning achievement for indie games. I can’t wait to see where the developers take the game in the next “patch.”
