This game fantastic and know that most red reviewers here know this and gave 0, 1 or 2 points only to show something to Activision. I won't be showing anything, because when I rate a game, i am seeking merit inside of it. Mechanics responsive and intuitive. Even in its basic form, game has worth of 2 beautiful games (31 tracks, 26 characters and variety of customization), but after accessing online content (WITHOUT ANY MICROTRANSACTIONS), you can unlock your roster up to 51 characters, have 40 tracks and so many customization items that give you over 760 MILLION options to create a setup for a kart. I mean how wonderful is that? Speaking of wonder, graphics in this game are superb! It was breathtaking to see intro of Tiger Temple or to jump in Oxide Station! Mechanics are almost like in the original, which gives a player control like in no other racing game. Adventure itself and some challenges are like they should be – challenging. I admit that some of them may require multiple tries to succeed, but rewards for trying are indeed great. Not only racing is great in CTRNF, it also have multiple battle modes when you can play with your friends in setup that you have chosen.

The graphics are up to the switch standard. They can always be better, but I´m happy with what I see. I have played it singleplayer and multiplayer and both works well. Split screen as we know it from other games... Just its Left/Right half of the screen, which is better then the Up/Down half like in the Sonic game...

+Customization is fun and adds engagement to play more and get better
+Variety with all the additions from Crash Nitro Kart adds a ton of re-playability
+Wider range of characters than Mario Kart 8, in fact, I wouldn't even compare CTR to MK8

    Neutral:
~Online has a few hiccups but works fine otherwise
~Fewer customization options in the Local Arcade for Races and Battles
~Most unlocking conditions require much time commitment (Pitstop and one character)
~Loading times on the Switch are longer than on Xbox or PS4 (most likely due to hardware limitations)
~Nitpick: Button remapping is missing which is a bummer, the game uses L R instead of ZR ZL for drifting which can create cramping issues with your fingers and hands.

    Cons:
-Difficulty settings are imbalanced (from personal experience). Hard seems like more a near perfection (luck based) challenge (when it came to races), and I played the entirety of the Adventure on Medium. Never really struggled with anything other than Oxides final challenge.

Verdict: CTR is a rock-solid remake of the original and definitely fun in its own right. Totally worth the $40 price tag.

It's taken me back to my teenage years, this reboot has everything that made the original incredible and more! The customisation options for characters and karts are great, the rebooted graphics are amazing, even on the switch which has less powerful hardware, they've optimised it really well and it looks great still and you just lose a little definition as it runs in 720p resolution instead of the big console versions who are running at 1080 (both versions run at 30fps). The game features a few nods to the classic CTR game such as legacy soundtrack and authentic loading screen times (30secs to load a race for big console version, 45secs on switch). But don't let that get you down, This is a triumph, I urge everyone who has ever loved kart racers to give this a go, and the Mario kart fans especially have to give this a chance because it is in many ways superior, and rewards good players for usr of skill, and punishes you less with random crate power ups, and the speed of races increases as you get better at the game and chaining turbos and learning the tracks, etc - thankyou everyone who worked on this game! It is amazing!

    TLDR:

In order to win, you have to permaboost the whole track, get every shortcut, don't get hit once because you won't ever catch up again.
    This NEEDs to be balanced.
    - Loading times take too long
    - Online mode: If you think Mario Kart online is unstable and unfair, well this beats it. There are long waiting times, lag hiccups (appearing and disappearing opponents) and usually balance problems.

    - Very nice graphics. You really see the effort they put in
    - Kart customizatons

The fact that i'm still getting disconnected from online matches, that finding an online game can take up to half an hour even though i'm using a wired connection is unforgivable, the grind for wumpa coins is unbearable and the fact that instead of increasing the number of coin gained; they thought of adding microtransactions 1 month after the game release says a lot about the people working on this game. Instead of providing a stable and enjoyable gameplay experience, they preferred to make everything tedious and call it a day. The only thing that is salvagable is the singleplayer mode and that's not saying much since this is a remaster and it would've been hard to mess that up. Currently, the adventure mode has been completed at 100%. If we look at the game as a "remaster" - it's great. Graphically it's perfect. I have nothing to complain about.

The control itself is great, but the sudden change in drift has been very strange to me for the first couple of hours. I started the game on a hard and had to change it for easy. After playing a 5+ or so hours, I can safely return to the hard level, but doesn't wanna lost my progress so completed in on easy. I will go 100% once again but on a hard mode.

The lack of micropayments is an advantage. Coins for the appearance of characters or vehicles we get for playing: offline less than online, which is fair and encourages us to play online.

The disadvantage is online, which has been repaired ... But the fact of having to be online to get coins is a bit annoying.

The second and biggest disadvantage is loading times. Sometimes the loading time can be longer than the map itself. When I turned off the Cut Scenes it's better, but it's still a tragedy.

I was very positive about the game: drift fear me but after learning is better than originally - it is something else, something new for me. That's why I feel this game as a new one and not as a "remaster". I would like to give 10/10 the same as in the original, but loading times and the online requirement: 8/10.

Although its not better than Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, which is a game that had years evolving it's gameplay, CTR still feels distinct from it and less experienced player will notice the gap between them and pro players when playing online, which can be either frustrating or very rewarding, as the learning curve results are clearly visible on this game.

The game seems to be constantly updated and the newly introduced grand prix should still offer more reasons for players to return to it, aka collect-a-ton.

Nope, like the N-Sane Trilogy they seemed to want to preserve the original experience difficulty and all haha. The Adventure Mode in this game (primary method of unlocking characters) remains as difficult as always and often has you relying on specific tricks to win as opposed to traditional cart racing tactics. Though highly difficult, is is doable, provided you have the patience for some of the tracks that may take you several hours of repetition to finish. That aside, the new cutscenes they added were an absolute delight and really made the world of Crash feel more fleshed out, especially with some extras they threw into the credits. The online mode was also very smooth from the few games I tried out, and the cart customization system was a nice touch. I will say that the new characters they added to this game to unlock were a bit random and I did not recognize most of them, but it was nice to see they added some with more to come in future updates like Spyro. Overall this game is a lot of fun, but if you have hopes of finishing the adventure mode, bring a lot of patience with you. And if you're a completionist... Well, good luck and have fun. I have no dreams of finishing all those time trials or collecting those gems haha. Expand

Microtransactions were added after game launch to inflate reviews and deceive buyers.

This is a very handsome remaster and well worth the $40. I decided to play the adventure mode on medium difficulty because, you know, I have some self-respect, but I found myself replaying the same races over and over again, sometimes 5 or 6 times before I won. Like, these tracks have a *razor-thin* margin for error. Don't get me wrong I like a good challenge, and I appreciate it when a game forces me to engage with its mechanics, but at a certain point this game definitely becomes more frustrating than fun. Definitely still worth the buy, just know going into it that this game is a good deal more challenging than your average kart racer. Expand

The online is a complete mess. Sometimes the lobby will remain empty for minutes at a time, sometimes it will drop all players, and sometimes the game crashes. If you can get past that, the multiplayer is often so unbalanced that one person will usually end up beating the map so far in advanced the game won't let you finish. You can only race one map at a time - no cups. What makes this worse is that it is the best way to get coins to unlock parts.

Unlocking parts is very grindy - they typically require 1500+ coins for a single part, and single player only gives up to 60 coins per level. To gain more coins you have to play mp, see above.

Everything takes forever to load. While the design is good, everything is very obviously aliased and runs at 30 fps. These things are not a Switch issue - Mario Kart loads faster, looks better, online is fast to jump into with more players, and runs at 60 fps.

The good parts - the racing is fast paced and fluid. The sets are very nicely designed, albiet aliased. There are many parts to customize. Unfortunately these things feel very overshadowed by the lack of polish.

Do not buy this game. Even though it's a single player game, it needs to always be online. You cannot earn cosmetics while offline, so it basically doesn't work while in portable mode. Plus, there is a 45 second load time to get to the main game hub, not to mention each race.

It's an unfinished mess that I hope gets patched one day, because the races aren't bad. But this port is unplayable.

I did not have any nostalgia going into this, but I still expected it to be better than this. Sonic Team Racing was better than this. If you own Mario Kart, there is no reason to play this title. Controls do not feel the greatest, especially the drifting/boost. The game just doesn't feel fluid or satisying to play.

Crash Team Racing is an okay kart racer with greed killing its ultimate fun factor.
Im a huge fan of kart racers, im a huge fan of crashbandicoot, so I want into this game wanting to love it..
Ive heard so many good things about the original, so much so that I bought thep laystation classic version to one day play it, only for months later get smacked with the announcement that rthey are remaking the original much like the crash collection…
And quite frankly this should’ve been included in that collection, because by itself its not special enough in present day 2019 to justify a standalone release.
The tracks are boring, the racing is slow, the pick ups are lame, the adventure mode takes a measly 3 hours to complete, and everything is hidden behind a pay wall…
Kart racers I get are meant to play over and over, do chllenges, unlock characters and skins, but greed got in the way of nitro fueled…
the tiniest unlockable like a wheel or color scheme takes a ridiculous amount of coin to unlock for how little you earn from completing races… killing the potential hook of racing over and over, doing all of the challenges to get that quick rewarding feeling of progress,Oddly enough this is my biggest gripe with this game..
I may not have the rose tinted glasses everyone else has, but I can be forgiving when it comes to this game feeling dated… it’s a remake of a 20 year old game… its okay that the control scheme feels unintuitive, its okay that the tracks aren’t spectacular.. because back in the day these tracks were full of life, the control scheme was perfect… its sad to me that the modern day aspects actually take away from the potential greatness of this game.
I want to earn my characters and gear,
I don’t want to pay for them, and I don’t want to grind for them.
But that’s the reality of Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled.
Youre rewarded at a slow pace playing a dated kart racer to try and force money from your wallets.
I don’t have the nostalgia whispering in my ear telling me the sweet lies of this is the greatest kart racer of all time.
The racing, the tracks, none of it could keep my attention barely long enough to get through the 3 hour campaign let alone grind for hours to get a new paint job.
There is some positive here though, this is a beautiful remake of a playstation one game, the tracks look beautiful…
Im so happy that the campaign manages to keep them fresh throughout, rarely repeating aside from boss battles as you prove yourself to be the fastest racer in the world…
I do wish however you chould change the difficutly settings mid adventure instead of having to start a new one completely…
Or better yet, have the difficulty of the races increase as the campaign goes on, rather than set every race as either easy medium or hard and deal with that throughout the entire 3 hours.
This keeps the campaign feeling stale and flat, instead of exciting and challenging.
I would love to see crash come back with a crash 4, and this team tackle an activision kart racer with the knowledge obtioned by going back and playing with these classics…
And while doing this.. seeing the flaws, seeing where they can improve instead of pretending they are perfect like everyone else does
I give Crash Team Racing Nitro Fueled

Guess what the game is GAMES AS A SERVICE which means if you don't play online you can't even earn skins in the game which means there's no sense of progression and hence no incentive to even play this as a singleplayer game. It also means once they shut down their servers (which WILL happen eventually) then you're screwed - there's no way to get the skins anymore. These "games as a service" games are being designed with OBSOLESCENCE in mind FROM THE VERY BEGINNING.

Then Activision-Blizzard stepped in, to announce that you can avoid all the effort for a few dollars in their cash shop. Then a few dollars more here ... and there.

It's a great way to cheapen the integrity of a game. Nobody will play it unless they choose to spend MORE.

It would have been fine to put in catchup mechanics but they made spending more money your only option.

The core gameplay is good. The game is well polished offline. Graphics looks good for a switch game but might have some drawbacks.

Online is janky. Your switch will have a hard time maintaining stable 30 fps in online races, and this can come to your disadvantage because you won't know when to jump, etc when the frames are lacking behind and skipping frames to keep up. The game does not have online split-screen races like Mario Kart 8 either. It seems like they went graphics > performance since it an easier sell for people who haven't played the game. Which is a big minus in a competitive racing game

I cannot give a better score when a publisher makes these slimy business moves to maximize profits on an already well selling successful game. If they want to expand a game, they should charge people for those expansions, not screw up the core game with microtransactions.

GP's aren't fun. If you log in every day and complete an online race they might be, but you will only unlock maybe 1/3 of the new items that way. If you want to unlock most of the new items, you will have to spend hours each day grinding OFFLINE battles since the challenges you get daily and weekly require you to complete very specific things in certain stages. You can't play those stages online and actually, have fun with real players since there are too many stages and modes for the game to pick at random, and thus you won't find other people to play with anyways. They should have made the challenges easier to complete and made them online-only and made matchmaking pick only stages and modes that are relevant for the current challenges.

As for others stay away from it your better of picking up mario kart then ripping your hair out with this game.i can still comfortably say mario kart is still the best kart racing game (its more a chill type of racing game).Whereas this game is more for extra hardcore gamers willing to spend days, weeks heck even months on just getting good at it .While mario you can learn with a couple of hours while having fun.So in the end i gave it a 6, because its a descent game and did get my moneys worth,.Its just not a great game (at least for me) like some people are touting. It is an overhyped and an overrated game. At face value, this would make this game better than the original, but there are shortcomings.

    1) To win against hard mode AI or people in online matchmaking, you need to master maintaining your blue fire and timings to enter shortcuts. While this benefits skilled players, it limits the capacity for a comeback.
    2) Much of the customisation, from the characters, skins, decals, karts and stickers, can be bought in the Pit Stop for inflated Wumpa coins if you don't play online. Naturally, you need Nintendo Switch Online to get a more reasonable rate of coins.
    3) You can't earn Wumpa coins unless your Switch is connected to the Internet. Basically, you can't play on the go and work towards certain items, unless you hotspot your mobile data.
    4) There will be microtransactions soon, which is why getting enough coins is very much a grind as they want to entice you to purchase them. The only plus side is that it's purely cosmetic and it doesn't affect the actual gameplay.
    5) The Grand Prix challenges are occasionally buggy, and it is slightly annoying when it resets certain event customisations to the default ones.

Overall, Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled looks great and plays well when it doesn't randomly crash, and Activision and Beenox have done well to reduce the loading times significantly. The drifting mechanism is satisfying and seeing Tiny Tiger in all his glory makes for a nostalgic trip. However, the game is geared around microtransactions and skewed towards skilled veterans. While Nitro-Fueled is priced lower than an AAA title, this should not mean that it should act like a free-to-play game.

The problem was that 100% of the people that have been practicing on this game for years were disappointed throughout the time since no competitive mode was available (like super smash bros ultimate). 95% of the times i win the race overlapping other players and all because of the items. On weekends you get on average between 10,000 /14,000 coins a day by racing online (at the moment the Wumpa Time bonus duration is doubled), now multiply that by 3, and that allows you to buy a lot of new characters, stickers, Karts, wheels or paint jobs, you don't even have to buy micro transactions because wumpa coins are way too easy to get. You get really easy tracks like Coco Park and Inferno Island and some other really challenging like Drive-thru Danger and Hot Air Skyway for the more advanced players. Drifting mechanics are good and they are satisfying when you completely learn them
Graphics are beautiful, every track is really detailed, sadly the game doesn't run at 60 fps but at least is a really stable 30 fps, wich I think applies to all the other consoles. I'm rating it only 9 because the online is a mess, lobbies disconnect 5 seconds before the race starts, position changes after the race ends (sometimes you end in 1st place and then discover the game sent you to 8th) Over all it is a very solid Kart Racing game, with a lot of characters, Easter eggs and infinite customization options and really good mechanics that are satisfying.

Side node: when on character selection on Switch, if you select "randomize" the game actually freezes... talk about good development.

First, if you want a Mario Kart-like game, you are at the wrong place.

Depicts looking childish, this game is hard and demanding, it has a huge depth in how you manage your booster (long story short, the point is to keep you booster as much as possible to win) and after few mistakes you often prefer to restart the race. You can save tens of seconds on a race simply "boosting" right.

You can save tens of seconds on a race simply "boosting" right.

You need to play a lot to master. This brings to a huge gap between players. So you will not have fun in off-screen multiplayer (except with peoples knowing the game).

The weapon distribution doesn't work. The game should have not any weapons loot and put everything on track. The last lap is often 1-2 AI far away ahead and the group beating and slowing down each other so the first AIs continue the race without troubles. This is not a bug, it's part of the game. This avoid the Mario Kart pitfall when player try to not be too much on top to avoid most attacks. That's why you often known when you should restart the game.

About the "content": There are a lot of races and modes. But for characters/karts/colors, it doesn't change anything to your kart settings as you can select them independently. So those are just "very nice art".

Worse design idea: You can see the karts/colors/characters on their karts even without having unlocked them. This totally annihilate the rest of rewarding effect you could have discovering what you've unlocked. For now, when the game tells you you unlocked something, you don't care.

I state it again: The art is amazing, the colors, the motion blur, soft shadow, character animations, etc.

Loading screen are huge, but restarting a race is fast lighting. You don't see loading screen "that" much actually. My biggest complain is it's impossible to change kart settings without leaving the race.

The game have a free to play looks with daily/monthly challenges focusing on competition. Doing them brings you "nitro" and "cash". Nitro unlock karts/stickers/colors, cash unlock special karts/stickers/colors. But as I explained before: You don't care: They change nothing and you can see them on the selection screen.

Online multiplayer seems to be "the" thing with this game but I don't have Nintendo Online.

That said, for me, it's a solo game focusing on competition and collectable.

I played the story in medium and it was tough. The story remind me Diddy Kong Racing (N64) but it doesn't have it's depth. Shame, it could have been so good.

The game should have a proper explanation of it's internal mechanism, it's a pity you have to go to the internet to understands the basics.

But once you know this, once you takes time to test how the game works, it's amazing. The fact it's the most discussed racing game on the Switch should put a flea in your ear.

No tutorial that explains any of the game's quite unique and unituitive core mechanics, and the game is very challenging right from the get-go. There's no sense of easing the player into the game and teaching you, you just get thrown into the deep end and then it's sink or swim. Music is pretty repetitive and annoying. Loading times are awful.

Me sorprende que siendo Activision el publisher, no tenga microtransacciones agresivas, tengo todo el contenido del juego y no gaste ni una sola moneda real.

I think I've got a love hate relationship with this game, and I'm not sure if me comparing it to Mario Kart is a good idea. As a remake it's incredible, when comparing between the original and the remake it's crazy to see how good it looks now. Minus the fact that it looks completely blurry on a Nintendo Switch but overall you can understand that it's a great remake.

I first decided to jump into adventure mode, this seemed like a great starting point where I could learn the ropes. There were three difficulties, easy, medium and hard. As I have played other kart racers in the past, I decided to jump into medium difficulty, this was a huge mistake. Beating adventure mode in medium was one of the most frustrating experiences, taking me hours to beat each race thanks to the steroid induced A.I. The A.I were also extremely predictable following the same paths each time, you could place traps in the same spot and they would just keep driving into them. The tracks were often really annoying and slow which would make the A.I even more painful to put up with. It's my fault really, I should have restarted on easy, but I was halfway through and couldn't be bothered to restart to change the difficulty. The boss fights were just cruel and annoying as well. Each boss was pretty much the same but they would all have a different trap shooting out their back. What made them insane was the fact that they were programmed to go insanely fast, faster than the player can actually go, if you overtook them they would instantly come flying past you. The puzzle levels I had no interest in playing due to them being extremely tedious and time consuming, I just couldn't be bothered to go back and get all the collectibles.

So would I recommend playing this? Kind of. If you want a more frustratingly hard kart racer, yes. Otherwise, just play more Mario Kart where the fun is at, at least there are people playing online there.

This game is incredibly fun, but it is challenging. You must master power-sliding (Clicking one shoulder button while the other is held down) to have an easy time in this game but once you do, it becomes even more entertaining.

    Pros - Lots of content
    Creative racing tracks
    Racing is fun
Battling is even more fun and intense.
Microtransactions are mostly limited to cosmetics.
Mastering its mechanics (Jump boost, power-sliding, triple power-sliding, etc) feels very rewarding
    High replay value

    Cons
Microtransactions are present for purchasing new karts (although not strictly necessary if you're picky and willing to grind for those you do want)
Rewards for battling are too little compared to rewards for regular races (battling is where I find the most fun in the game since I finished adventure on medium difficulty).
The hard mode (adventure strictly. Hard mode on battling arenas is loads of fun) does not seem worth the effort in comparison with the entertainment received/derived (the Ninja Gaiden series did hard modes right, but this game doesn't)

Everything was taken to the next level, and it's more than what it's trailers have shown. However, is there a downside? Yes there is. It ended almost as soon as it began. Not gonna lie, I was kinda devastated seeing the Gasmoxia Grand Prix being the finale. The game had much more potential, and I was hoping to see some more new things. I know the biggest issue on everyone's mind is the microtransactions, but considering the fact that they're optional, that just seems like an overreaction. Still, the game has exceeded a lot of expectations, and I couldn't be happier than I am. I pray this game gets a sequel. If you want to have some high-octane fun, I STRONGLY suggest this game. You won't regret it. Expand

Adventure mode has been remastered as well as seeing all the bosses and characters in their new glory! The battle tracks are back as well if you like those!

NOTE: Some CNK tracks were changed entirely due to Nitro Fueled not having anti-gravity.

This game is so much fun! The voice-acting, the scenery of all the tracks, its just amazing.. If you're one of those people looking for an alternative to Mario Kart, give this game a shot!

A great remake of a very specific game for a very specific audience. Crash Team Racing is a solid alternative to Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, but it’s not for everybody - and you should know beforehand what you’re getting into.
