Still one of the greatest games ever made. The graphical cleanup and accessibility options also make this the best time to jump into this glorious RPG classic. Doesn’t seem like they fixed any of the frame rate issues from the original, but I doubt that will bother too many folks.

Chrono cross deserves better than this remaster, Chrono Cross deserves a full remake.

Anyway, still is Chrono Cross, the best game i've ever played. This score of 10 is for Chrono Cross, not for the remaster.

The remaster deserves 5.5, but it's still Chrono Cross game. So, who cares? Just buy it, and enjoy.

The game that I was waiting all these years. I'm very happy to have it a third time in a remaster version. Yeah, like the original one, beware of the FPS..... except that, just go play it ! :)

One of the best Square Enix RPG's ever made. Good job Square, I love this game!

This review is coming from the standpoint of someone who loved the original Chrono Cross. Giving this a 9/10 after playing through nearly the full game. It overcomes the frame rate and allows battles to feel quick and seamless, a fresh breath of air especially during the segments where you must power through multiple battles while listening to the same song for the duration.

My only other gripe is while the characters were remastered and upscaled, the background graphics look untouched and fuzzy. That said, I can't seem to put the game down.

This is still Chrono Cross, and I still love Chrono Cross. The port offers some genuinely very nice updates to an already fantastic soundtrack, which was quite welcome. The port offers some genuinely very nice updates to an already fantastic soundtrack, which was quite welcome. Similarly, the ability to speed up and slow down the game at will is a nice little quality of life improvement that I'm enjoying, mostly to speed up the combat. Unfortunately, the graphical updates are somewhat more inconsistent. To preface, absolutely this version of the game looks better than the PS1 version. But when you think about what this could perhaps have looked like, it's just not as impressive. The framerate is just not improved, and this is especially evident when you're speeding up the game. It's still a convenience, but it is impossible to not notice how extremely the framerate dips when you speed up the game. It is distractingly bad, as a part of a feature that is specifically advertised as being a definitive factor of the port. And to be clear, this is basically just a port with some bells and whistles. I'm happy to drop $20 to basically play the original again, but not everyone will be. Even if I consider this the definitive version of the game, I could still absolutely just emulate the PS1 version for free. I had high hopes for a Chrono Cross remake/remaster, and I think the game deserves one. This is not that, and that's a bit disappointing. For people who have never played the game, I do think this is probably the version to play, and despite some things not aging well, I do think it's a great RPG that I recommend people play. And I don't quite think it's fair to judge this version of the game by the standards of a Remake or Remaster that we did not receive. I'm going to finish playing it again, and I am going to enjoy doing so. But I am also going to lament, privately, that we didn't get a big, beautifully realized remake of the game. Maybe someday they'll take another look at Chrono Trigger. Expand

Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition is a decent way to play an often overlooked PS1 RPG along with its accompanying SNES text adventure, but it doesn’t do a whole lot to justify a purchase if you already own the original. In fact, it actually performs worse in some cases. Still, the new options like fast forward and disabling encounters are convenient, and finally having a way to play Radical Dreamers is awesome.

Ultimately, I'm equally delighted and disappointed. Maybe there's a better version of this game available in another world? [Issue #59 – May/June 2022, p. 22]

Chrono Cross is a timeless classic and this renewed form definitely deserves to be given a chance. You won't regret.
