Whether you’re a cat lover or not, Cat Quest creates an ideal blend of charming graphics and traditional hack-and-slash gameplay. Despite holding back on a few things, the satisfying combat and convenient loot system show that The Gentlebros have a tremendous understanding of RPG mechanics and – to let the cat out of the bag – it could pawsibly be my favourite game of the year.

Neither short nor long cat adventure will catch you with its simplicity. It is hidden in a enjoyable duel system, picturesque graphics and a satisfying story. In addition to the gameplay, Cat Quest entertains you at every step with funny puns and references to other games. It's just a shame the game repeats the same all over again.

Cat Quest is a lightweight action-RPG that doesn't demand a lot of your precious time yet provides a deep enough experience to scratch a much deeper itch. It's a purrfect addition to the Nintendo Switch lineup.

Cat Quest turned out to be a low impact game with a high emphasis on fun. It’s a great armchair zen experience that fits Switch to a tee. It’s easy to play for five minutes, an hour, or more, and always make worthwhile progress – even on busy days when time is not on your side. It’s a pun filled game that’s a purrfect fit for gaming on the move. Sure, not everyone will approve of it’s unapawlogetic feline-centric wordplay, and upbeat pawsitive nature, but others may just find the humour to be cat-hartic – especially whilst compared to the self serious attitude seen in other modern RPGs. If dog is your pet of choice there is however no hope for you. Sorry.

Cat Quest is a simple and charming RPG that still manages to be deeper than it first appears and is a nice bite-size adventure compared to the many all-consuming ones you can already find on your Nintendo Switch.

Cat Quest offers cute visuals, solid RPG action, and an overall charming feline adventure, and it's best enjoyed in bursts to avoid the otherwise repetitive quest structure.

It feels like the Gentlebros were having a blast making this game. After beating the boss, there are plenty of other side quests to go on if you’d like, and the generous save system makes it possible to play it for just a little while and then put it down. Cat Quest doesn’t reinvent the RPG genre. Instead it just does it well, with some cute cats to boot.

You could do a whole lot worse than Cat Quest if you’re in the mood for a lighthearted RPG adventure. If you’re looking for something with a little more teeth and a little less purring, that’s what Skyrim or Zelda are for. Cat Quest is made with love, joy, and a sense of humor that’s too often forgotten in games.

Cat Quest is a game that stays with the roots of the ARPG genre and makes fun of it in every aspect. A brave and rogue game that is really fun and nice due to its simplicity and duration.

Cat Quest is an ideal little RPG to introduce to youngsters, especially given the charming pun-filled script and plentiful kitties, but those jumps in difficulty can mean a helping hand may be required on more than a few occasions. Despite its looks, though, the older generation with a love for all things feline will find a lovely, if short, Zelda-like adventure worth giving a go.

As polished as Cat Quest may be, it does have a few downsides. The strong focus on cats and endless supply of cat puns is obviously not a world everyone will want to immerse themselves in – especially if you are a dog lover. However, if you are willing to overlook this and the basic design, what is on offer is a functional role-playing game that can be played for short or longer periods of time by players of all ages and cat lovers alike.

Cat Quest is a purr-leasing experience that pits cats against dragons in table-top action adventure. The combat provides engaging feedback whilst the cat-izens offer plenty of – mostly humorous – cat-based puns that both draw you into the world of Felingard.

This is a game that is aware of its goofy setup and relishes in a sea of cat puns and insanity. It’s not a terribly long game - I rolled credits within a few hours - but it’s a fun romp with a straightforward and entertaining action RPG style. Cat Quest is a game that likely won’t stick with me for too long, but it was a pleasant time basking in cat gags and beating up on foes with swords and magic.

Cat Quest’s combat can get stale and the lacklustre dungeon design definitely hampers exploration, but the surprisingly entertaining story and cool loot system is enough to keep you engaged to see it through to the end, if, you’re playing in short bursts.

Cat Quest is a mobile phone game turned Switch RPG that has an adorable facade, cat puns, and not much else.

Cat Quest is strongly hindered by its original mobile game nature, but even with the excessive simplification of mechanics and short longevity it can bring a smile to gamers, providing to be accessible even for inexperienced players.

It remains true that Cat Quest is a hugely reductive game that strips the RPG formula to its very roots, and that lack of depth becomes tiresome towards the end. I'm glad that this is not a game that outstays its welcome, but at the same time it's not a game I'll remember, beyond that adorable skipping run of my adorable little furrball.

After a few hours you’ll find the constant combination of magic, standard attacks and rolling out of the way eventually gets a wee bit repetitive. Still, considering it only takes five hours or so to beat, it doesn’t overstay its welcome too much and as the credits roll you’ll be happy with the charming adventure you’ve just had.

I loved this game. Great little soundtrack, easily playable, enough secrets to keep it interesting, and a super easy battle system. BattleI loved this game. Great little soundtrack, easily playable, enough secrets to keep it interesting, and a super easy battle system. Battle plays like a mildly retarded Secret of Mana, and always puts that next level within reach, so it's easy to keep playing. I was also pretty thrilled with the free DLC, which increased the games playability pretty significantly. It moved the game from a 9 to a 10 for me. Absolutely buy this game if you're fan of the genre. Full Review »
