Bury Me, My Love lacks the necessary amount of player interaction that it needs for its message of compassion for the plight of Syrian refugees. The story wasn’t engaging enough to retain the attention once the game reached the halfway mark.

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Bury my my love is a narrative game with little gameplay. You are a Syrian man who is in contact with his wife that is trying to find refugee in Europe escaping Syria. The story is told through text messages.

The content is super interesting and I like the idea. However the writing is awful. The characters are flat and behave in weird ways. The story is unbelievable and plays like a course your own adventure novel. Random stuff happens, there is no idea or plan, yet somehow she makes it through every time. She's the James Bond of refugees.

I pushed myself to the end of the story only to be treated to an sudden fight and the female protagonist leaving the player. There was no rhyme or reason leading up to this event and the path branching was weird and obtuse. I guess the makers want you to start over again to get the good ending, but it made me hate the game. I am not going through all the mediocre writing just to get to the intended ending.

I like these kind of games. I did not like this one. Saves at branching paths could have salvaged my frustration but not the poor writing. I can also imagine the Syrian people being upset about this happy go lucky random events leading up to the female protagonist s journey. I would recommend spending your time and money elsewhere.
