Insanely expensive for an old game. No split screen multiplayer? This feels like a $10 game to me.

Solid fun racing game. Could look better in hand held but still decent. Just wish it was cheaper. But good to have this type of game on the switch.

I would give this game a 10/10 if the game was not THIS expensive, EA has no respect for Switch owners

They could not even be bothered to port FIFA (on the frost engine) to the Switch, they keep giving us **** LEGACY edition

Why this game is SOOOO EXPENSIVE on switch while I can have it on Steam for 20 or 5 on sale? :(

That aside, the game is just great. But the price is a really no no that ruins the game because a lot of people can't play it because of it.

I never played the original back in the day, but I loved the earlier Burnout games to death, especially the all-time classic Burnout 3. So this is the review of someone going in with a fresh set of eyes.

I never played the original back in the day, but I loved the earlier Burnout games to death, especially the all-time classic Burnout 3. So this is the review of someone going in with a fresh set of eyes.

And I have to say: I'm not impressed, especially not for the price. It's not a bad game by any means (6 still means above average, after all), but it's got a lot of flaws.

The world is pretty intricate when it comes to shortcuts and such, but it is also preeeetty small. Combine that with there only being a little more than a handful of locations that serve as destinations for races (totally unnecessary limitation, as there is really nothing special about these spots) and very few types of events, and they all start to feel same-y and repetitive REALLY quickly (I'm only 4 or 5 hours in and already bored). Also, they are way too easy. I'm currently on license B and the only time I ever lose races is when I miss a crucial turn, which leads me directly into my next point...

The open world-design really is a double-edge sword: On the one hand, it allows for exploration between races and creativity during events as you can always choose your own route. In practice however, it's usually pretty clear what the fastest route is and your task is really just to follow it, which is a pain in the arse, because you're somehow supposed to look at your mini-map and waypoints while simultaneously following the usual high-octane Burnout racing action, which is borderline impossible and results in a lot of crashes. It also really only serves to slow the gameplay down, because you want to make sure that you're on the right path rather than blowing by an important turn and having to back-track. I mean, did the developers think that we all have two sets of independently functioning eyeballs??

What's also suuuuper annoying is that there is no simple option to re-start or re-try an event and also no fast travel. Noooo, instead you have to manually and painstakingly drive all the way back to the starting point of the event, should you lose. I don't even bother most of the time and find something else to do. Similarly, you can't just change cars in a menu, but have to drive to a specific location to do it, which is totally unnecessary. And, oh yeah, you also can't even set way-points on your map...Some open-world-game, this is.

Another thing I found pretty weird is that you get instant access to a ton of cars right after the start of the game, including ones that are WAY faster than the car the game hands you at the beginning. I don't know if this is the result of DLC inclusion or something, but it's really weird, seeing as there is now basically no incentive to use the weaker cars that the game keeps awarding for winning races (other than doing one car-specific race for each one).

Also: NO CRASH MODE/EVENTS? IN A BURNOUT GAME? WHAT WERE THEY THINKING??? Why would you choose to omit the most fun and beloved mode out of all?? What's wrong with you?

So, all in all, there is *some* fun to be had here, but I would recommend playing Burnout 3 or even Revenge over this any day. If you've never played a Burnout game before and are looking for a fast Arcade-Racer on Switch, I could maaaaybe recommend this to you, but I would definitely get it on sale, as this is basically just a re-release of a 12-year-old game at full price.

A quality open world racing game. The visuals look quite good, the gameplay is enjoyable, and there's a pretty good amount of content. However, it does becomes a bit repetitive after a while, and as such is best played in short bursts.

Really fast with a smooth framerate and can be fun.

Unfortunately races are spoilt as the graphics aren't sharp enough for you to make out turns you need to make in time. I play in portable mode so it may be better for players using a large tv. The map is also always north up so if you are travelling southwards, the directions are upside down and a required left turn shows as a right

The map is also always north up so if you are travelling southwards, the directions are upside down and a required left turn shows as a right on the map. Not an issue on fixed tracks but can cause real problems on a free world game this fast combined with such blurry graphics.

I also don't like the format where you have to drive around the city and pull up at different traffic lights to start each race. If there is a decent route or event, I want to select it immediately rather than trying to remember where it was in a large city.

This game is virtually unchnaged between the Xbox 360 and switch besides for including the dlc and it makes it hard to justify the price of $50. That's almost as much as brand new experiences on switch like breath of the wild or animal crossing new horizons. I’m not sure why this is considered such a classic. Burnout Revenge was my game, and I loved it. Criterion did themselves no favors with the “open world”. I’m not a pro gamer, but I didn’t finish half my races because I couldn’t find the finish line. It’s infuriating. Car customization is limited to colors, which didn’t bother me in Revenge. The cars felt unique in that game. I have no incentive to discover new areas or unlock cars in Paradise. The garage mechanic is annoying at best. Engine sounds and car characteristics are interchangeable. Soundtrack remains a highlight. This isn’t a bad arcade racer by any means, I just really wanted to make the point that it’s not some cult classic. There are hundreds of vehicles and I don’t care about any of them. Expand

I love racing games. This game is even better because I can just drive around as fast as I want to, jump, check out the roads and then enter into competition when I’m ready. The downside is that I find it hard when playing handheld on the switch, the obstacles are harder to see and I wreck more often. Controls overall are very responsive.

Going online and being able to set records on global high-score tables is also a nice little touch. I was slightly frustrated with the way the AI works during races though. In some game modes the AI attacks you as you race. But the slightest tap can send you flying in what feels like an unfair fight. Another irritation is slow-downs in the otherwise glorious frame-rate, when there is a lot of debris happening: a car will crash in front of you throwing up bits of wrecked car and smoke, which slows the frame rate to almost nothing, resulting in you ploughing straight into a pillar or an oncoming vehicle. That said I have sunk many happy hours into tearing up the streets of Paradise City and "ruling the road." If you enjoy all out crazy arcade racing games then I'm confident you'll enjoy this. Expand

It is my favorite racing game. I love the fact that you can collect cars, with crashing them. I love that you can choose what type of race you want to do. I love that you can play with the „worst“ car and still be fast and have fun. I love the design and the second map. I love the difficulty of this game. I love the little secrets, and that you can be faster if you know a short way.

It's Burnout Paradise what more can I say? It's a good game with amazing destruction physics. I recommend buying it on sale though, the default price is a bit too high for a relatively bare bones port of a remaster of a PS3/360 title. If you can get it on sale, go for it, it's great fun

In an era full of triple-A self-seriousness and open-world games that feel like they’re little more than busy work, Criterion reminds us that we don’t all need to follow the same template. Over a decade after release, Burnout Paradise is still the king of open-world racers, proving that a simple gameplay loop is often the most effective.

If you’ve never experienced Burnout Paradise before — or even if you just want the convenience of having an all-time classic racing game with you everywhere you go — you’re in for a treat with this Remastered version on the Switch. It may be more than a decade old, but time hasn’t diminished it in any way, and it’s still a must-play for anyone who likes a whole lot of destruction in their racing games.

No matter how good the game is — and make no mistake, it’s great — it’s hard not to scoff at the price. Yes, if you’re a fan of Burnout Paradise or open-world racers, this remaster is worth a look. But unless you’re craving a handheld experience, it might be wise to grab it elsewhere — or wait for a price drop.
