BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! adds coop gameplay to the original formula. The result is very interesting, considering the content (more than 200 levels) and the replay value. A must for puzzle lovers and recommended for Switch owners in general.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! takes the puzzler series to new heights with the first Switch BoxBoy! entry. With an innovative spin in the form of fresh new mechanics and the playable inclusion of another loveable boxy character, this eShop title will brighten up any puzzle fan’s day.

Boxboy + Boxgirl is a banging, box-based Brain-teasing bonanza and brilliant at a budget price.

HAL Laboratory does a great job shaking up the mechanics from one set of levels to the next so the action never grows stale, which seems extra impressive after four entries.

A calm but challenging puzzle adventure filled with minimalist charm and surprisingly loveable quadrilateral characters, Boxboy! + Boxgirl! is filled to the brim with laid-back problem-solving goodness whether you're playing alone or with a friend. A brilliant Switch debut for Nintendo's most understated mascot.

Overall, Boxboy! + Boxgirl! does much more right than wrong. Outside of some ambiguity in how to perfectly solve a puzzle and a generally underwhelming visual style, Boxboy! + Boxgirl! is a daringly innovative puzzle-platformer. There’s so much to see, so much to do, and with another person in tow the whole adventure takes on a different dimension. This is one of the best new franchises to come out of Nintendo and HAL in recent times and further proof of how both companies are not showing any signs of slowing down. Boxboy! + Boxgirl! should be on everyone’s download lists.

HAL may not be so easily swayed to shake up the visual aesthetic of the series, but with a latter-half that opens up creatively as well as an easy-to-grasp control scheme, BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! in the end manages to rise above the similarities to end up a worthwhile compilation of conundrums to crack.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! is far from a total reinvention, but the series remains as charmingly enjoyable as it always has. The addition of a fun co-op adventure is just the cherry on top of an already solid package.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! continues the series perfectly in its transition from 3DS to Switch.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! is yet another joyous outing for the series packed with content sure to please newcomers and returning fans alike. Its core gameplay may not have evolved much since the original 3DS trilogy but the addition of co-op takes things in an interesting direction that feels perfectly suited for the Switch and leaves me excited to see where HAL Laboratory take Qbby next.

A great puzzling platform game that works perfectly either handheld or on the big screen with a bevy of levels that represent great value.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! is a triumphant return for one of Nintendo’s underappreciated square-shaped heroes. The core campaign, albeit a solid iteration that newcomers will enjoy, plays a little too safely for BoxBoy! veterans. Thankfully, the new co-op and Qudy modes are the reinvigorating jolts this series needed, delivering clever and refreshing ideas to mix up the simple block-making formula. Hopefully, this Switch debut marks a bright future for the box family.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! does not reinvent the box, but it is a nice new addition to one of the most undervalued franchises of Nintendo. Especially the new co-op mode with BoxGirl is a blast.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is another great HAL Laboratory offering with only a few small missteps that keep it from being a perfect example of how to make a puzzle platformer. Everything else is great, though, and if you need another game to add to your growing Switch collection, you really can't go too wrong here – especially if you've got another BOXBOY or BOXGIRL in your life you want to share this adrenaline-pumping boxy adventure with.

Qbby arrives on Nintendo Switch with a fun cooperative mode and an original campaign full of varied puzzles. The formula continues to work and Nintendo EAD has creativity for a while, but we miss some innovation, as it remains too traditional.

This title is ideal if you’re looking for a puzzle game with tons of content that will make you think. It doesn’t do many new things, but its smart design and charm are more than enough.

Even after three games, HAL Laboratory is still able to introduce new skills, puzzles and challenges, now with a coop campaign. A game as simple as addictive, that even if it doesn't take the formula one step ahead, and without a very well known name behind, if offers a good chunk of accessible challenges for all kind of players.

Bigger and more fully featured than ever, BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! marks a high point in this quirky puzzle-platformer series. It's not perfect - the stripped back aesthetic and lethargic physics won't be everyone's cup of tea - but fans of co-op puzzlers, in particular, should investigate pronto.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is the best offering in the series so far, and a fine entry point for those without a 3DS. Co-op play is a neat new addition – though the experience is rather familiar for those who have played a BOXBOY! title before.

A welcome comeback for Nintendo’s most minimalist mascot, that justifies itself with an extremely entertaining co-op mode.

The game is a little too easy, especially for those of you not worried about collecting every crown. The hint system provides too much of a safety net that is far too easy to fall back on. Thankfully, though, the series clever puzzles are as entertaining as they ever have been and keep the pesky frame rate issues and low difficulty from boxing you out of enjoying Qbby’s latest adventure.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is a satisfying puzzle adventure with plenty of challenging levels to keep you coming back. The variety of power-ups and unique hazards result in a game that stays fresh across the course of its three main modes. The addition of co-op is extremely welcome, and the tricky bonus objectives highlight the smart puzzle design on offer. If you enjoy pick up and play puzzle games, this is a great addition to your Switch library.

BoxBoy+BoxGirl is a successful and enjoyable puzzler with enough new additions in co-op and the rectangular box segments to feel fresh and new. While some aspects of BoxBoy’s design are well-worn and overdone in the fourth entry, the entire package is endearingly charming with its minimalist presentation and clever twists that make most retread portions mere bumps in the road that don’t detract from the overall fun.

Boxboy + Boxgirl is perfectly pleasant platforming that anyone can enjoy. If you’re looking for a new puzzle game to play on Nintendo Switch in bitesize chunks, look no further than Qbby and his new friend in Boxboy + Boxgirl.

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! is another quirky, charming puzzle platformer from HAL. It might not have quite as outlandish box types as Bye-Bye BoxBoy!, but it makes up for that as a welcoming entry on Switch for newcomers, stacks and stacks of bitesized puzzles and a new co-op mode to boot.

Aside from the bare-bones visuals and lack of online play, BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! fits right at home on Switch, where future installments have the option to significantly amp things up and adopt a more modern locale that doesn’t shy away from inducing volume. Nevertheless, the game is brimming with engaging content that is sure to appease 2D platforming fans, especially those who enjoy solving puzzles while thinking outside the box.

Through powerfully puzzling ideas and a quite distinct cooperative, then extended adventure, HAL Laboratory drew inspiration from romanticism to turn Boxboy into a joyful bloc party with Boxgirl, showing that it gets even better together.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is a solid puzzle platformer, especially if you have that itch for short and on-the-go gaming sessions.

BoxBoy returns with a brand new puzzle adventure. BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! introduces a brand new a co-op mode and a bulky post-game, but lacks any kind of big challenge.

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is an enjoyable and adorable game. It has charm, and plenty of content, and features. I would say its price at $9.99 to be a fine deal and worth getting if you enjoy puzzle platformers.

So if you have $10 and some curiosity then you’ll find a lot to do in Boxboy! + Boxgirl! This was my first time with the series and I found it very relaxing with good reasons to revisit stages after completion and unlock bonuses for playing and appearance. But it’s also slower paced than I expected so if you’re on the fence just check out the eShop demo because there’s a lot more where that came from!

BoxBoy! + BoxGirl! Is easy to pick up and play to the end, but getting the highest ratings will be quite a challenge, as it requires to gather all crowns on the level while using as few boxes as possible. [Issue#238, p.62]

BOXBOY! + BOXGIRL! is the fourth game of the BoxBoy! series and this iteration brings a very welcome cooperative mode, as well as new additions that contribute towards making puzzle solving more enjoyable. Character customization is also a new element that contributes to make this a remarkable and fun puzzle game and which will fit perfectly with those who enjoy using their heads.

The game is clearly geared toward young players, so expect a lightweight experience.
