"Is this the right place?...What did I come out here for?"

A plaintive theme on the piano. A tattered 2-year-old calendar. The taste of stale air. A woman is in her house, alone, and her mind holds a mystery...

You are Sunita - a woman living with early onset dementia. As you wander from room to room, you discover mysterious objects, each holding a fleeting, fragmented memory. Examine faded postcards, scribbled notes, photographs, and more to uncover Sunita's past, piece together her life-story, and understand her present.

Before I Forget is a story-rich, first-person exploration game from 3-Fold Games. Delicate, moving, and atmospheric, it examines the emotional impact of dementia.

Before I Forget is a short, beautiful experience that nevertheless approaches a challenging and rather sombre subject. It takes creative bravery to share a game that represents the impact of dementia, and to do so sensitively and as accurately as possible; it achieves this goal. We not only suffer the disease with Sunita, but engage with the successes and joys of her life. Before I Forget finds a careful balance that is to be commended.

Before I Forget wants to put you in the shoes of a woman with early dementia, it wants you to live their day-to-day life. And invites you to learn through contact with the objects around you what they are looking for. It succeeds. Sunita, the protagonist, had a life she now longs for. She loved, enjoyed and immortalised moments through images. These moments are the narrative channel to tell her story. The game lasts only one hour, enough to convey a valuable message.

Beyond a simple, yet expressive artistic presentation and a nostalgic tone, this narrative, subjective, hence immersive experience addresses dementia issues with such authenticity that Before I Forget not only proves unforgettable, but ultimately useful.
