Feb 24, 2022Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is a joy from start to finish. It improves on certain elements from the series, has a charming new story with some familiar faces, and even adds intriguing new features for you to enjoy
-
Feb 24, 2022Fun new ideas, tweaks to old systems, and a captivating new chapter in Sophie’s story all help Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream feel like a natural next step after Atelier Sophie, despite the handful of other Ateliers we’ve seen in the meantime. But more than than that, what makes Sophie 2 stand out is what has always made this series stand out: its absolute commitment to pure, unadulterated joy. That’s what you come to Atelier for, and it’s what Sophie’s latest outing delivers in spades.

Feb 24, 2022Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is, without a doubt, one of the best games that GUST has put out in over a decade, and it's once again renewed my faith in what the company has in store for the Atelier series as a whole.
-
Feb 24, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 is a charming and beautiful game. Being one of the best instalments of the series to date, and even taking into account its negative points, we are very happy to have been able to enjoy a new adventure of Sophie in a dream world such as Erde Wiege.

Feb 24, 2022Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream on Nintendo Switch is an excellent version of one of the best Atelier games. The future of Atelier on Nintendo Switch has been looking brighter with each new entry, and Atelier Sophie 2 raises the bar(rel) further.

Jul 5, 2022Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is another chapter of the Mysterious Trilogy and one that brings a series of welcome improvements regarding its predecessor, while keeping the fundamentals of the formula intact. What we have here is a classic Atelier game with a modern touch, featuring a gorgeous, vibrant and varied world with an original exploration system and an updated combat mechanic that makes it more dynamic. All in all, Atelier Sophie 2 is the best game in the Mysterious Trilogy.

Nintendo Force MagazineJun 28, 2022I think it's best to start Sophie 2 knowing exactly what you're getting into. Is it a wholesome, cozy game? Yes. Will its gameplay test your knowledge and skill with complex systems? Also yes. But together, they provide a fun experience that longtime and new Atelier fans will enjoy. Mar 9, 2022While Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream does nothing totally different as a sequel, the streamlined crafting and simplified combat system allow players to be more invested in the story without becoming bogged down in complex game mechanics. For long-time fans, however, those mechanics are still available.
-
Mar 2, 2022I spent more time plumbing the world for ingredients and rewards than I did with the Ryza games, and that means one thing: it really nailed the recipe.
-
Mar 1, 2022I’m sure the title will tip you off, but Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream is best appreciated by those who have already played the first game and enjoyed its characters and mechanics. There’s a little story catch-up here for those coming in fresh, and you will survive even if this is your first Atelier game. But the game certainly means to build on the foundations set in the first game, particularly with regards to Sophie and Plachta. As such, I’d advise you to play that first game before this one. That caveat aside, Atelier Sophie 2 does everything a sequel ought to and will assuredly provide Atelier fans with their regular dose of light-hearted RPG adventure.
-
Mar 1, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 is a lighthearted yet engaging experience that is well balanced. Sporting first-class character design, music, visuals and combat. There is potential to get lost in this dreamworld, with most of the grind being trimmed allowing the player to simply engage. It does have it's rough edges, but depending on your interpretation and expectations of the story. Not for the hard of heart, it's plain to see that the team behind Atelier has a deep love for their craft.
-
Feb 28, 2022Atelier games continue to be the mark of a consistently good franchise, and Sophie 2 does little to deter me from that sentiment. It’s the kind of game that deserves to be experienced alongside your favorite creature comforts and maybe a hot beverage to boot. Sophie’s latest outing most definitely deserves to exist, and those looking for a relatively easygoing and chill experience can’t go wrong here. It’s a worthy sequel to a cherished game, and a wonderful way to celebrate the joy fans have experienced over the years.
-
Feb 25, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 is an entertaining RPG, with enhanced visuals, joyful story and new gameplay additions and tweaks, that makes this new entry one of the most entertaining in Gust's atelier series. And that's no little achievement for a 25th anniversary, even if it arrives without Spanish translation and some tasks are a little bit chore.
-
Feb 25, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 stands as a wonderful achievement for Gust and the Atelier series. What we have here is an entry that feels like the perfect fusion of the old and the new. Sophie’s new adventure may not have much to offer up in the story department, but it more than makes up for this with its streamlined design, thrilling combat, expansive world, and addictive alchemy system. This is a title we’d recommend to both longtime fans and newcomers—it's one of the best Atelier releases yet. If you’re at all curious about this one, we’d strongly encourage you to give it a shot.
-
Feb 24, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 does not reinvent the wheel nor blow me away as far as RPGs go, but it did lull me into a peaceful, coma-like state of gratification. This game severely lacks intensity or high stakes and I think that’s kind of the point. It’s a warm bowl of soup when the weather outside is frightful.
-
Apr 19, 2022Atelier Sophie 2 is a game that retains the conventions of the franchise, but improves on them a little. With exquisite visuals, more features such as no loading screens when entering battle, and a decent story, this is another Japanese RPG that fans of the series will love, but may not sit well with newcomers.
-
Feb 24, 2022Overall, it’s a calm and relaxing journey through a strange fantasy world that will be exactly what some players are looking for.
-
Apr 22, 2022While the overall package is lots of fun, it's not without a few issues. The lack of a truly driving story is by far Atelier Sophie 2: The Alchemist of the Mysterious Dream's weakest point. Furthermore, progression is in general just slow throughout, with endless backtracking. The simplified alchemy system is a mixed bag. It does little to stray from the formula and will be picked up by players exactly for that. It would be nice to see Gust take some risks and really step out with some new ideas rather than re-hashes of the same thing over and over.
-
Feb 24, 2022I think whether or not someone will enjoy Atelier Sophie 2 comes down to how much they loved the original game and its characters. There are marked improvements from Atelier Sophie. It is clear Gust took what the team learned from more recent installments and applied it here. But it might not foster the same enthusiasm as other installments, due to its focus on certain characters. It might even leave you a bit frustrated when you need to perform certain actions to get needed recipes or run into inaccessible areas because you don’t have the correct “keys” to open those metaphorical doors. People who love Gust and Atelier Sophie will likely be all-in and satisfied to see Sophie and Plachta’s relationship grow. Everyone else may want to wait for the next entirely new entry.
