A great port! AC4 and Rogue are even more compelling games as mobile experiences. I could never get into AC4 on PS4 but having these games on Switch is great way to explore their open worlds bit by bit...

If you like Assassin's Creed, get this game. The game itself is good. However, I had this game corrupt my data twice in the first couple of sessions. And it took like 3 hours to restore my data each time.
I've been playing Rouge and my biggest problem with that is they don't let you customize anything until a certain point in the game which is annoying.

I really enjoyed this game, the sound was clearer than the ACL port on switch.
I think the team that worked on rogue did really well on both the FPS and graphics.

My experience for this game was way better than AC3 on Nintendo Switch. Frame rate is more stable than AC3, Better environment, gameplay, graphics and open world activity. But I kinda wonder why there's no background music for synchronization.

I'd give it a 9, but unfortunately Rogue lacks the polish of Black Flag and has lots of glitches/hangups. It's a shame, because after playing through Rogue I can confidently say I legitimately enjoy it more than Black Flag. Even if I don't like the story as much, gameplay wise Rogue is a huge improvement over Black Flag. It's a criminally underlooked AC game.

One of the best action/adventure experiences on the Switch to be sure, and in my opinion the best all-around Assassin's Creed experience pound for pound. In the Rebel Collection, you go from pirate, to liberator, to Assassin, to Templar. There's a LOT of variety when it comes to 'way of life' and exploring the intrigue of the underground societies of the Assassin Brotherhood and Templar Order and their philosophies, and you will probably enjoy all these transitions and the diversity of range they offer.

The gameplay between both games is mostly pretty uniform, but despite that, Rogue manages to improve upon Black Flag's formula and brings some unique add-ons to the experience and environments. Some improvements include military land-battles, reverse boarding, Assassin stalkers, double counters while fighting aboard enemy ships, the air rifle (possibly the single greatest piece of equipment in any AC), official hunt challenges, and much more. The only feature withheld from Rogue that was in Black Flag is underwater exploration, but that has a lot more to do with the environments than simply stripping content for the heck of it.

That being said, the games run well on Switch and there are very little issues with framerate or bugs. It's a well-tailored port and one that will more than likely be enjoyed by any gamer with an appetite for adventure. If you've played Assassin's Creed before, but stopped after II or Brotherhood, or were thinking about getting into the franchise, but only have a Switch, I would personally recommend this as it's a delight to play and offers fun exploration, naval combat, nice all-around customization, interesting stories, great characters, and one of the best AC experiences, even today.

Quite a nice collection. I do have some issues, but on the whole, I'm quite pleased with it. It's a fantastic way to have 2 fun pirate adventures. Let's start off with the positives. Despite some graphic problems I'll address later, the game looksQuite a nice collection. I do have some issues, but on the whole, I'm quite pleased with it. It's a fantastic way to have 2 fun pirate adventures. Let's start off with the positives. Black Flag is still as fun as it always has been. Just being a pirate and sailing around, destroying random ships, is engrossing and wonderful. Despite some graphic problems I'll address later, the game looks very pretty, with the light blue Caribbean waters being a highlight for me. Frame-rate is solid throughout, with only minor hitches here and there during large scale set pieces. Disappointingly though, the frame-rate is locked at 30 fps, when the PS3 version was unlocked. But even then, the PS3 version suffered from 7th generation piss-poor frame-rate, so at least it runs better. There are many nice extras with the collection, such as all previous DLC being included, so I get to live my dream by playing as Adewale. But now, I wanna get into negatives, because I like **** on a game I enjoyed. Rogue is... umm... Okay, ever since I first played it, Rogue has always been the disappointing younger brother to Ubisoft's bright son, Black Flag. Collision is messy, leading to many undeserved deaths. Ship fights feel less satisfying, with English ships you aren't allowed to destroy dotted around the map. And, more egregious for me, is the fact that Ubisoft was lazy and made Rogue a download only. I don't like downloads like this, because I've always just enjoyed putting the cartridge in and going at it (which is why I heavily dislike consoles like the PS4) and the fact that I was forced to delete some stuff to fit 8 gigs of mediocre Assassin's Creed kinda irks me. And then we have graphical issues. Black Flag didn't have any, with that game looking lovely and running smoothly, but for some reason, Rogue has many issues. And before you say anything, Rogue was installed to the internal storage instead of my SD card. I did this because I believed the following issues stemming from the SD install. But even after moving it to the Internal Storage, the issues never went away. First of all, it the disgusting dithering, which is most noticeable in River Valley. Whenever I get off my ship and explore a foresty area, the dithering covering the screen nearly gave me a migraine. I never saw this issue when playing Black Flag. Then there are all these strange clipping artefacts. Many times, the polygons on rocks or ship masts would clip onto each other, leading it looking very ratty. Again, this issue was only present on Rogue, and not Black Flag. There's a clear lack of anti-aliasing, and if there is, it's a very weak form of AA. This issue was present in both games, and was very annoying, as the sails and ropes of the ship would have all these aliasing artefacts, and the Abstergo building especially failing in this area. Another issue, well not issue but more of a disappointing fact, is that these are last-gen ports. I guess it is to be expected, as porting down the PS4 XBOX1 versions would've required much work for a budget collection, but it's still kinda lame. Even then, there are no clear upgrades from the last-gen versions. I did dust off my PS3 to check, and all I could tell was cleaner shadows, more Ambient Occlusion, and textures that either was updated or used a different texture filtering method. (I couldn't tell) Last, but certainly not least, is that Rogue would have multiple frame-rate dips below 20. This happened more often than expected, and would even happen when nothing was on screen. It's very strange. These issues did get lower in occurrence when switching from SD to internal, but even then, they never went away. So yeah, Rogue feels very thrown in, which is slightly sad, because I thought maybe this collection would change my mind on Rogue, but no, its still kinda lame. But despite all my **** I still had lots of fun with this collection. Black Flag is still the best AC game (well to be fair, I've never really enjoyed the other ones in the series. Maybe I'm just a pirate guy.) and worth the purchase alone. It's always on sale, so I do very recommend pick it up. Just know that Rogue is a bit of a mess, and that these are just last-gen ports. Disappointedly, I found the game very mediocre. It starts off strong enough with a fun chase scene that introduces the player to a lucious, tropical setting in the Carribean and interesting characters. The protagonist, Edward Kenway, is also immediately likeable. But the praise basically stops there. Each cutscene is only around 30 seconds to a minute long, and while the dialogue and voice work is well done for the most part, it leaves the side characters grossly underdeveloped. And the overall story arc is simplistic, predictable and ridiculous and ends abruptly out of the blue.
The missions range from tedious and frustrating tailing missions with unforgiving checkpoints, to killing x amount of enemies, assassinations and naval sections. Each story mission blends into the other, which is in no part helped by the pretty, albeit samey looking open world. The combat in this game is also god awful. Mash y to attack, press a if you see a red exclamation mark above an enemies head, and press b to break an enemies defence. That's it. Its ridiculously superficial. The ship combat is slightly more engaging but quickly becomes repetitive after being forced to farm for resources. Overall I found AC4 boring and soulless and has put me off trying any other games in the series. 4/10.
