    - Ramps and physics can be very buggy.
    - The game is completely broken in online racers.

Decent stab at a free arcade racer ... you don’t have to loot box to enjoy career mode, in which you can build up your cars... however you may struggle to place highly in the multiplayer until you’ve reached a decent level of cars that are available, especially if there are people paying for loot... give it a stab through career mode, and make your own decision

First off, it's a great port of the mobile version, but some big things stand out to me that shouldn't be an issue for such a long going franchise. 1. The controls. In the mobile version you can tilt your phone as little or as much as possible to steer your cars precisely, with a controller, you only have left and right, that's it. No analog support in a 2019 game is unacceptable. 2.First off, it's a great port of the mobile version, but some big things stand out to me that shouldn't be an issue for such a long going franchise. 1. No analog support in a 2019 game is unacceptable. 2. Unbalanced online matchmaking. It's simple, pair players that have a similar car ranking and that are in the same tier. I get paired with vehicles nearly twice my power, and get destroyed, and lose some of my rating because of it. If you want to play this game competitively, only play the time trial events that come up, those are fun.

    3. Latency online. This may be only my problem, i'm not sure, but i often fail to score a take down on another player because of lag. It's very laggy at times, not to where my car teleports but the other way around. I haven't been able to try the split screen mode yet but i hope it's fun. All in all think it's an ok game, but for those wanting to progress as quickly as they can and get more vehicles by climbing leaderboards, winning online races, etc, i can see it to be an extremely frustrating experience. Just get Grid if you want a solid racing game.

    Review:

Warning: This game Heavily pushes microtransactions and lootboxes, and uses wait mechanics.

Asphalt 9: Legends is a Free-To-Play Arcade Racing game that presents a mix of the sublime and the detestable. On the one hand, I'm just going to cut right to it - this game uses all of the worst tactics to try to push players into paying for microtransactions. On the other hand, this is an absolute top-notch racing game. And where your opinion is on the former is going to affect how much you can enjoy the latter.

So, let's get the ugly stuff out of the way first: Asphalt 9: Legends uses damn near every trick in the sleazy microtransaction book. There are multiple forms of currency here (all for sale for real dollars on their store front), new cars are not only unlocked using lootboxes, but you don't unlock them directly - instead, you get "blueprints" that need to be collected like McDonalds Monopoly stickers you need enough of to win the prize. And on top of that, each of the game's cars uses "fuel" that is expended in each race and requires players to wait to use that car again after a certain number of races... unless you want to pony up the dough to refuel the car sooner.

Okay, now if your head is spinning, let me dial things back just a bit. For starters, the game is free and they have to get their money somewhere, and I tend to go easier on free-to-play games that use these mechanics than I do on full-price games that use them. On top of that, while the game definitely wants you to spend cash, it's actually not all that bad to play through it without spending a cent. Having multiple cars means that when one runs out of fuel you can swap to another, and it's fairly easy to earn cars through the game's campaign (no lootboxes required). Plus, progress in the campaign can also refuel your cars, and there's an argument to be made that the refueling mechanic works to encourage players to play all their cars, not just one or two favorites.

Also, it bears mention that once you unlock the game's splitscreen multiplayer mode and a few cars to play with, you don't have to deal with any microtransactions to enjoy it, and it's an absolute blast.

All told, this game does have a nasty microtransaction situation going on, I won't lie... but it's one players can work around if they want to enjoy the game itself. And if you can, wow, there's a pretty amazing game here.

Visually, this game is sublime, with incredibly detailed environments, a great presentation, and wonderfully smooth framerates (except in four-player splitscreen, where the framerates aren't quite as good, but still decent). Honestly, it's shocking that a small developer best known for smartphone games created something with graphics that look nearly on-par with the best offerings of AAA publishers.

As for the gameplay, Asphalt 9 plays something like the Burnout games, with bits of SSX and F-Zero thrown in for good measure. The game has a very fast-paced, arcadey feel to it, and the challenge of racing in this game is to alternate between doing tricks and boosting. Tricks include drifting, getting air time, smashing other cars, or putting your car into a 360 spin attack a la the F-Zero games. Players need to alternate between tricks and boosts to remain competitive in races, and also keep an eye out for shortcuts on the branching tracks (some of which are inventive enough that it reminds me of the San Francisco Rush series that was built around the concept).

In short, Asphalt 9: Legends combines some of the best elements of some of the best arcade-style racers of years past, and the result is something truly fun.

I kinda' wish Asphalt 9: Legends was released as just a normal "pay up front" game, because it's unfortunate that the gross microtransactions will undoubtedly drive some players away. However, unless you have addiction problems, or kids who can't be trusted not to make purchases on your Switch, I'd argue that all of the microtransaction BS can be worked around, and if you can, you really should give this game a try, because under all that BS is one of the best racing games on the platform. After all, it's free to download, so what have you got to lose?

tl;dr - Asphalt 9: Legends is a Free-To-Play Arcade Racer that's bogged down by all sorts of nasty microtransactions, which is a shame because the game underneath all of that is one of the best racing games on the Switch. I'd argue that the microtransactions can be worked around, and since the game is free to play, you should definitely at least give it a try - on balance, I'd argue that the game is definitely worth the hassle.

Gameplaywise and in general, graphics, sounds, content, everything is 9/10. Maybe rubberbanding a bit annoying on some occasions, but I got used to it. And normally I'm like, okay, as soon as it's F2P, I accept a bit of grinding. So I did here. But I'm also like, take my money and give me a fully working product. Like in case of FH series, I always buy the premium bundle and I'm happy with it. But here, even if you spend money, you get nothing. The devs are adding new cars, are making them required for the new (seasonal) challenges, and nearly impossible to get. So even if you spent some astonishingly huge amount of money (like €250) to get the best cars, you still need to grind or to spend more money. That's awkward, because normally when I'm spending €50 on a game, I expect at least the basic content (career) to be available. Not in this case. In this game you can't even finish the career. You need to grind for years, or spend thousands of euros, to get through. And, don't get me wrong, spending no money at all I was able to finish the huge amount of challenges and get all the basic cars no problem (just the ZL1 required some more grinding unfortunately, but I managed to get it). And, since the game is absolutely fun to play, it was a good spent time. But now I decided to finally pay a little for it, to get some boost. And, trust me, having the season pass (you need to buy one each season!), having bought some of the content, I'm still with literally nothing, and the stuff that I got is useless. The game economy is mad. You earn hundreds, but you need to spend hundreds of thousands to perform any base tuning to the cars. Not to mention how difficult it is to get the base cars required from you to play the base seasonal events. That's absolute madness. That's the most exploiting F2P system I have ever seen. And, again, I would be okay with that said I'm not to pay a single dime. But once I spend money, I should be given a complete and working game. And €50-€100 should be maximum amount required from you to get the full game. In this case, nah. Even if you spent €1000 you're still in a **** not able to play the majority of the content (especially the seasonal one), and you're barely able to finish the career mode (I'm still missing a lot of content, due to lack of specific cars, that are impossible to get, even when you spend all your money on cards). So yeah, here we are... With a perfect arcade racing game for the Switch, with perfect graphics, sounds, perfectly optimized, absolute fun to play, but yet so annoyingly wrong when it comes to any economy whatsoever. The earnings/spendings ratio is ridiculous. The prices for the paid content are ridiculous. The uselessness of the paid content is ridiculous. I hope to see the paid version of the game one day, to be able to simply buy it for like €50 and play it with no worries. That'd be the perfect solution. Currently it's bad, extremely bad. You can only play it if you're rich as hell. But the question is - do the devs deserve your money for it? I don't think so... Expand

Nice arcade racing game. Like the options and it's for free. Though there's pay to win but if you don't wanna pay, there's still enough fun. I didn't spent a enny on it yet, and playing for 3 weeks now.

    Good:
Graphics, same fun gameplay formula. Split screen and quick race for offline play.
    Bad:
Touch menu issue.Short tracks that results to more loading times, requires grinding to progress and unlocks content

Graphics are great as expected and racing in this game presents opportunities for excitement and exhilaration. The downsides I've felt, however, involve campaign races sometimes being short and underwhelming. Also, the difficulty curve seen in some races makes it clear that this is a pay to win game.

Asphalt 9 is great FREE racing game.
You can get this game for mobile top.
    Gameplay is little bad.
Graphics are great at nintendo switch.
    Clan feature is good.
But there isnt that much doing at game..
I rather say dowload this at nintendo switch than mobile.

This is a visually stunning, free-to-play game. Very fun to unlock new cars and grow your garage. Some flags in career mode are nearly impossible to get even with the recommended rated/level car. The game becomes frustratingly difficult and that is why I'm giving it a 7 rating. It truly stops being fun as it becomes increasingly difficult.

This game is basically a mobile game on the switch, that means it has the monetizing of a mobile game. While this game has ok visuals, fast game-play and a constant support, it just doesn't work, literally. The game is prone to crashing on start-up, forcing you to re-download the game, it can crash your switch because of synchronizing errors. It just doesn't work. It's too risky to play because anything in this game is prone to completely brick your switch. Game-play side, it's barely alright, maps aren't numerous but they change to make different tracks, the feelings of playing with joy-cons is dreadful and the meta basically revolves around : "don't barrel roll, spin when you jump", that's it. The progression system is a mere joke that will make any other video game burst into laughs. The career mode is doing over thousands of races over, and over and over, it's boring and uninteresting and it's forcing you to upgrade your worthless cars that you'll never ever use, couple that with frequent chase sequences with police cars that have rubber banding soo hard it will make dark souls look like a joke. The game ask you to spit money to get cards that allow you to get cars if you have enough cards. Of course the best cars aren't available in these cards pack loot-boxes, but they are exclusive to events, that require good cars that are unlocked either by spending money or spending 200 hours in the game just grinding for a car you don't want. This game is fun, but only when you boot it everyday praying for it to not crash. It's not worth the hassle. Expand

This was my first switch game because it was, yes, free. Had some previous experience with it on my mobile phone, but I gotta say, it's hella fun on switch too. Graphics are beautiful, runs smoothly. I just feel confused by all the messages for special events that are slapped into my face too often when I just want to play the game in peace. It feels like the game needs a bit of cleanup and maybe a change in the strategy, because it's a short time enjoyment. At some point, you forget about it and hardly come back to it. A more rewarding experience seems to be missing to keep one hooked and coming back. Expand

A nice game, free to play via Nintendo Online. Big collection of cars and a lot of upgrades, special events and multiplayer to spend your time every day. Also one of the best experiences on handheld mode for the console.

Excellent free racing video game, without online switch, but you need to work in its multiplayer mode, that there is justice and that the ghost mode is activated and predefined, for a fairer gameplay environment

This installment of Asphalt for the Switch brings us the intense adrenaline much like the PC version... if you take out half the songs, performance, and stability. But don't worry! That's only if you're lucky enough to have the game run for over half an hour without it randomly crashing. And trust me, it will crash. Guaranteed or your money NOT back because the customer service is beyond supportive...

    Enjoy!

grahics are the main feature , bad control of the cars , and bad incentives when you win , longer races and tyre changes would better , not the best driving game , flags and areas are predictable and boring
its game that shows good render and speed but limited game play races should have lap 3 , 8 , 9 laps in the race and option of no takedowns

For a free racing game you find on the eshop, it's alright. it's good to play it with joycons instead of glass screen

Game started out ok, but eventually it became clear the game is definitely rigged for those who fork over the cash. Card packs are an absolute joke.

Gets boring quickly. There's not a lot of challenge. Tracks all start feeling the same and they're too short.
Sure, it's "free" but unless you enjoy grinding away you're going to hand to spend money. I despise freemium games but I was bored and decided to see if it was any good. I'd rather just buy the game outright than have to pay far more over time in stupid micro-transactions

And below all these online challenges, etc. is still a classic Asphalt to find, racing is a lot of fun and there are many micro payment free offline tasks to do. The tracks look in detail and smoothness better as ever before, this step up from Asphalt 8 (played it on a windows notebook) was not really to expect, it's a nice surprise. On top offers the Switch version a local split screen multiplayer with a ton of different tracks. The local multiplayer is great fun with 4 players, with less most tracks get a bit boring because you cant add bots to the local races unfortunately. I'd say there is no other game for free with this amount of content on Switch. Expand

The stages are too easy or too hard! Also the multiplayer mode is terrible! The only good is split screen mode.

A fun game at its core but can’t decide if it’s an arcade racer broken up with commercials, or a commercial broken up by an arcade racer.

"Freemium” games are a scourge of mobile gaming, and seeing it come to the Switch in such an aggressive way feels just as icky here as it does on your mobile device. There’s undeniably a lot to do here, but be ready to shell out some real money if you want to get the full Asphalt experience.

Perfect to play on the go and available for everyone for free, Asphalt 9 Legends is a fast-paced and well-structured game, with only a few excesses related to microtransactions, and a bit of grinding too.
