Unlike Vs. Ice Climber or Vs. Super Mario Bros., where those games are little more than harder versions of the NES version, Vs. Balloon Fight
feels distinct from the original despite using the same visuals and music. It has more than double the number of stages, and each of them is unlike anything in the NES version by being twice as tall. Overall the game play feels faster-paced and more reliant on strategic positioning compared to the NES version.
