Fantastic game to chill to, and perfect for our current worldwide situation. The ability to change the landscape at a whim, the ability to jump over to someone else’s island with ease, and the crafting system makes this the most intricate Animal Crossing released. Is it a perfect game? No, but it’s definitely better than the current user ratings let on. Expand

So this was my first introduction into animal crossing and I gotta say that I'm not all that impressed with the game. Wake up, find my daily bell tree, plant another bell tree, check turnip prices (which always suck for me), check the hot item, and then scavenge for the resources and fossils (or anything donatable to the museum) on my island. That's what I do everyday and it is kind of driving me crazy.

The villagers don't feel like they have a purpose to be there but to be there. There are plenty of games that do the life sim thing better and add a bit more content than this series.

It's not an awful game but it doesn't grab me like other games. Also it is kind of messed up Nintendo made it 1 island per switch instead of per profile. It's 2020 guys, there should be no excuse for such a thing.

It is absolutely everything an Animal Crossing game should be... and way more. If you're a fan of past games on the series, add all of the joy those games brought you together and double it. That's just how amazing and addictive it is.

I've spent hundreds of hours, and have thoroughly enjoyed my time. I like customizing clothing, and my island. I love filling up my museum. The animal neighbors are cool. This isn't my first time playing an Animal Crossing game, and this one is the best.

never knew what the fuss was about with this game, it's pretty much a "life" simulator is the best way to describe it, it's alright but not my type of game. Bought to see what it was all about.

This is one of the few honest reviews of Animal Crossing New Horizons you'll see. It's not amazing, it's not terrible. It has its moments and is certainly a different type of game than you might be used to. Very little in the way of an objective, very relaxing, very annoying in terms of repeated dialogue and some awkward controls.

It's relaxing in a kind of 'do nothing' way and it's all

It's relaxing in a kind of 'do nothing' way and it's all innocent and charming and a nice non-threatening world to dip into now and again. But it's not exactly thrill-filled or the kind of challenge you'll get from a typical game.

I couldn't care less about multiple players because I'm the only one who plays on my Switch, but if you share your console, your mileage might vary. Doesn't deserve a 10, certainly doesn't deserve a 0. Solid 7/10 game.

Absolutely do not understand the negativity on Metacritic around this game. People went completely mad in the process, as with the Last of Us 2. In Animal Crossing, you want to come back again and again. And you can't play much in one sitting. But that's the point. The desire and ultimate goal in the game is the same-to collect all the items, which are simply unthinkable huge number. AndAbsolutely do not understand the negativity on Metacritic around this game. The desire and ultimate goal in the game is the same-to collect all the items, which are simply unthinkable huge number. And how you will achieve this and how quickly you will get bored is everyone's business. But this game must be played by everyone who has a Switch. Good graphics, nice character style, nice music (the first 30 hours, then the sound turns off:)), interesting opportunities to rebuild your own island, a lot of events, which are also linked to the online, the change of seasons and of course the time that corresponds to the real. Fishing, catching insects, mining, growing trees, settling residents in the form of various animals, collecting shells on the beach, swimming. It seems to be simple things, but how well it is organized. Separately, I would also like to mention online trading with real people. The same items accumulate a lot over time and they need to be put somewhere. Some things are a pity to throw away, so they can be safely sold, for an adequate amount of course. Go to Nookazon and everything will be. In General, even after 490 hours that have already been spent in the game, there is something to do. It is impossible to describe why this game is played, just try it. Expand

I don’t think the game deserves the hate it is given. That’s the reason I give a 10, but I will review it at 9.
The experience being just me in my console (no second players) is great. The game actually helps me disappear from life a little bit each day.

I understand the deal-breaker of the sharing system and just 1 island per Switch. That may be a huge deal-breaker for a lot of folks.

I would give a 10, but this game definitely needs some fine tuning, which Nintendo will probably not listen to. Let us not forget who are we talking about after all.

The main reason is the stupid progress being restricted to the first player who boots the game and you can only have a single island per console. The player 1 is the island representative who can makes the progress, everyone who enters the island is unable to make any such progress. For this person the score might be 10.
Overall, AC is a game where you create a bond with all your villagers and town. You get this change of pace from our fast IRL and see your little village growing into a teeming town, very slowly if you don't change your in-game time and to me, it's that feature that really makes the AC unique.
Some quality of life tweaks are very needed to make the game more enjoyable IMHO. Such as, bulk crafting, shopping cart in the clothes store and many more. However, that this isn't an enjoyable game overall, the feeling of progress with some new features to the series made the game a nice pick.

I hated watching it and definitely didn't want to play it. I have Stardew Valley at a pretty high level and when I get to where I want to be with it, I wanted another farming sim. Simple, relajante. Un escape a la tendencia actual donde lo único que importa es la calidad de los gráficos. Fácilmente pasas cientos de horas equipando tu isla (y cambiando todo una y otra vez). Recomendado para todos los que quieren pasar un momento de calma.

First of all, I want to say to all players who have given a bad review to this game, due to the creation of only one island per nintendo switch, that this has been this way ALWAYS. If you have played before the AC for Gamecube, City folk, Wild World and New Leaf, ALL OF THEM, only allowed the creation of one city, town, or whatever. Now, putting all that anger aside.... Animal Crossing New Horizons it's been the best game of the series.
*DIY recipes: A whole new feature that makes you work hard to get specific items and even trade recipes with other players
*Event and new features updates: Allowing you to have more special visitors, more DIY recipes, more festival events, new building upgrades, etc.
*Clothing: A huge amount of clothing, costumes and more. All of the clothing with vivid colors and an excellent design.
*New villagers and new ways to get them: New flashy and adorable villagers like Raymond, Judy, Shreb, etc. And also the new feature: campsite, where you can get a random new villager. You can now help/avoid villagers to leave your island and they cannot move out without your concern. Additionally, if a villager moves out you can invite friends or other people to come and pick up villagers to move to their islands.
*Nookmiles program: Doing specific activities will allow you to redeem Nook miles, which can be used for Nook Mileage Items or for Dodo Mystery tours. These activities vary from completing one time only objectives, to random daily chores.
*Dodo Mystery tours: Allowing you to go to randon small islands where you can not only get more resources but even find a new villager
*Enhanced online mode: Even though it sometimes crashes, this mode is way better than in the other games. Allowing you to trade, explore, fish, catch bugs, get new DIY, talk with special guests and more.

In short, if you are looking ofr a life simulation game and love animals, designing and even interacting with other people online, this game is definitely for you. Highly recommended :)!

PS: Prepare to invest a HUGE amount of your time in designing and decorating your island haha

While the one island per console concept is lame, and I understand why people don't like it, I am the only user on my Switch, nobody else plays it or even wants to. I will not judge a game based on a situation I am not in. I WILL however, judge a game based on my experience.

It is a fun game, very addicting. I've never been able to get into animal crossing until now. There's something about turning an empty island into a bustling city that appeals to me. Despite the overwhelming amount of games available to me at the moment, I have played animal crossing for at least 250 hours, which is not something I can say of many games.
You start off on an empty island in a tent and then work your way up to better housing through loans from the resident loan shark (with no interest, oddly enough). Little by little you improve your island and your house and soon garner villagers to populate your village. You can pull weeds, catch bugs, fish, dig for fossils, design clothes, flags and a great many other things. It does get a bit repetitive, but is fun for me nonetheless. If you are the only person on your switch and you enjoy that kind of gameplay loop, this might be the game for you.

Animal Crossing New Horizons is basically perfect. Full of wholesome content that helped us cope with the COVID-19 pandemics, the game keeps the heart of its predecessors while innovating enough to make it unique. It may not have won Game of the Year but it'll be the game we all remember from 2020, for sure.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons is a stunning new instalment in the Animal Crossing franchise, hindered only by its lack of immediate content, quality of life issues and missing returning characters and features While future updates will give the game long-term playability, for those already sipping vacation juice on their five-star islands, island life feels pretty mundane right now.

It’s full of detail, pretty small things, and surprisingly well working simulations and systems – everything polished in such a way that the player really does care about everything that’s going on. [06/2020, p.40]
