Dodge fire, grab items, and blast away at throngs of enemies...A faithful return to the origin of shmups.

The closer you attack your enemies, the more HP recovering and bomb charging power-ups appear! Obliterate oncoming projectiles with your charged attack, and get up close and personal with enemies to hammer away at them from close range.

Angel at Dusk is wonderful, weird, and built on a foundation of deep understanding of the genre, and an intelligence and self-awareness that elevates its potential to delight. Not all will take to its theme, but it presents a deeply authentic hardcore bullet hell experience, a dazzling wit, and a suite of game systems that are a joy to explore. And the fact it welcomes a wide range of players to an authentic shmup? It’s one of the year’s most enticing genre contributions.

Angel at Dusk may not be up there with the most essential shooters, but its bonkers concept and sickeningly beautiful visuals help it to stand out while the aggressive combat provides plenty of fun. Well, until repetition starts to set in. An enjoyable time, especially if the average shooter isn’t enough like Videodrome for you.

Bullet hell aces might enjoy Angel at Dusk despite an erratic framerate that wavers during the game’s busiest moments. With visuals comprised of pulpy viscera, bones, and teeth, Dusk is dark and visually distinctive. When it comes to play, the title’s five-stage campaign might feel succinct, but it’s bolstered by modes with branching paths and runs where you collect and build overpowered loadouts.
