  1. King Kong for the PSP might lack the emotional impact of the console version but it does not fail to bring us all the visual beauty and brilliant blend of playing as either man or King of the savage jungle.
  2. 69
The control is decent enough for some fun dino hunting, the kind of deep jungle danger that we haven't had much of since the original Turok (and haven't had any of on PSP), but the handling of the story is messy and confusing.
  3. It is most definitely King Kong in the palm of your hand, but the sacrifices and compromises made to get it there ultimately suck away much of its appeal.

The horribly short lifespan and the bad controls of Kong degrades this title from a must-have to a must-rent.
  5. 50
A half-hearted attempt to make the game even more ubiquitous than it already is. Very little effort was put into making it a compelling experience in its own right, and thus, you have very little incentive to experience it.
  6. 50
It is considerably shorter than the console versions and retails for approximately the same price, there is nothing to come back to after the game is finished and unfortunately that will be far sooner than you will wish.

An ambitious attempt to shoehorn the epic PS2 game into the PSP, ruined by editing, unfriendly controls and gloomy graphics. [Feb 2006, p.98]
  8. But while the PSP version adds a two-player Co-op mode, it also has wonkier controls than its console cousin, which weren't great to begin with.
  9. When you look at the poor quality graphics, short gameplay and relatively empty environments, it becomes rather obvious that King Kong for the PSP was rushed to coincide with the theatrical release of the movie.
  10. PSM Magazine

Simply put, although the content is taken from the console version (though there's much less of it), the controls kill most of the experience. [Apr 2006, p.88]

Game is exciting at first but you soon realize you just fight the same bugs and dinosaurs the whole game. and the Kong missions are terrible.

The story is stripped down from the console version and much of the later levels are missing.

Play the console versions over this, but honestly even those games are overrated.

The graphics have some flaws, but the cinematic mystique of the environments is very well done. Playing as Kong is not nearly as engaging as Jack, and one major and frankly unbelievable oversight is the final level on the Empire State Building. This should have been the hardest and most intense game play of all, but instead is not even game play really but a stupid cinematic throwaway! Full Review »
