Despite the split-screen, there's little discernible slowdown and the visual detail remains spot-on. Psygnosis used Sony's Performance Analyzer, which enabled them to squeeze every last drop out of the PlayStation, and the result is virtually no pop-up and the crispest visuals imaginable.
-
Takes the vibe and style of the previous two games and ramps up the speed to even higher levels.
-
Practice makes perfect, and Wipeout makes you scream. [The control] takes some time, but you'll be able to corner hairpins faster than a debutante on prom night.
-
Combining well balanced gameplay, excellent track designs and a killer soundtrack, Wipeout 3 is the high water mark for the techno-racer category.
-
The inclusion of challenge and Deathmatch modes greatly enhance the gameplay, while the two player spilt-screen mode is sheer class. Add to this the hidden four player Split-screen-Link-up mode and.... well, what are you waiting for?
-
A shotgun blast of colour and speed, Wipeout 3 is not something you'll forget easily. It's the biggest, finest-looking, finest-playing game of an exceptionally good trilogy.
-
Bigger, faster, more in depth and wholly better than XL but it remains largely the same despite additional gameplay modes, tracks etc.
-
The bottom line with this game is that it brings more to the table, it's faster and better. Newcomers and Wipeout fans alike are going to be all over it.
-
Aurally, WipEout 3 is a masterpiece. In fact, it's almost worth buying just so that you can listen to the music in your CD player.
-
All things considered, the engine is superb and its surprising the poor Playstation doesnt start smoking from the vents.
-
If you could combine the challenge and exciting environments of XL with the high res, analog control and new innovations of 3, I dare say you'd have the best racing game ever made.
-
The learning curve in the first two games was gradual and fun to play, but this one is surprisingly severe...Its pluses far outweigh its flaws, though.
-
A great new dose of anti-gravity racing magic and a must-have for all hardcore fans. Sure, you don't fix what 'aint broke, but I just wish the game had a little something more a career more, vehicle upgrades, something.
-
Going about 600 scale miles per hour it is nearly impossible to discern what's going on with your gauges, not to mention the fact that it's really tough to know when you're about to destroy yourself...Only the most jaded of Wipeout players will feel cheated by purchasing this game and even they'll secretly have fun.
