    Not as big a leap from "Wipeout XL" as XL was from the orignal Wipeout (and I still think that triple pronged rocket from XL is the coolest racing weopon out there), but it's an excellent evolutionary step. The tournaments are incredibly hard, and I still haven't finished the game, and it's like 2 years later. But still, the series (and this 3rd installment) are brilliant!

    If at all possible, get the Special Edition. The standard tracks and craft from WO3 give you a total of 192 single races to win on Vector, venom and Rapier speeds, and that's not including the tournaments or challenges. The special edition's extra 8 classic tracks from W'O'' and WO2097 double that number, and there are brand new challenges and tournaments on the If at all possible, get the Special Edition.     The analog control is a first for the series and works exceptionaly well. The graphics really push the PSX to the limit and pop-up is not an issue. Great track design and music round out the long list of features that make Wipeout 3 one of the best racers of all time.

    The game is not only astounding technically speaking (the graphics push the PSX to its limits) but it is also a joy to play. A lot of content, eight ships, eight tracks plus four prototype tracks (and if you get the Special Edition, there are two more prototypes and eight more tracks from the two previous games!) spanning through four speed classes, 32 challenges and four tournaments.The game is not only astounding technically speaking (the graphics push the PSX to its limits) but it is also a joy to play. A lot of content, eight ships, eight tracks plus four prototype tracks (and if you get the Special Edition, there are two more prototypes and eight more tracks from the two previous games!) spanning through four speed classes, 32 challenges and four tournaments. Considering that Rapier Class and Phantom Class start to get really serious in terms of difficulty, there is a lot to do.
    The game is also very customizable (you can remove weapons, trim the number on the grid, and other things via the secret cheat codes) and it offers a very good and immersive cockpit view, which is a huge plus in my opinion.
    The soundtrack is very spot-on with a lot of good tunes as always.

    Honestly, Wipeout 3 is as good as it can be on the PSX if you love the genre, and it is a shame that it didn’t get the attention and the success it deserved.    … Expand

    Beaucoup d'améliorations côté jouabilité et maniabilité par rapport aux 2 précédents opus bien que la caméra externe soit toujours pas fichue de rester correctement derrière le vaisseau. Les graphismes sont en progrès sensible mais les couleurs sont devenues délavées pour un rendu fort terne.

    La musique est devenue bizarre, limite cacophonique par certains moments.     Wipeout 3 is an excellent racing game. It has a great theme and well-designed tracks. It has addictive game modes, awesome weapons, and unique aspects. One of the only things that stick out like a sore thumb is the controls, which could be smoother, and are slightly frustrating (slightly!) . If you're collecting PSX games, this is a MUST!

    Newer games are missing gameplay like this. Insted of fitting in too much stuff so it dosnt matter, you learn where all the corners are in tracks untill you can memorise it in your head and know everything! Tracks and Ships are sort of low so i got the special edition which give you classic wipEout tracks. The graphics are also good for the ps1. If you want a hard but fair racing game,Newer games are missing gameplay like this.     since the European version only got Wipeout 3 Special Edition (along with standard version of Wip3out) it really a great game but not compacting with Wipeout 2097 which is really amazing game, make lots of fixes, additional features, racing all the team in Vector, Venom, Rapier & Phantom Class (not forgetting build-in Soundtracks)

    Bellissimo gioco di guida arcade, che fa della velocità il suo punto di forza.
    Considerando il periodo in cui è stato messo sul mercato, molto buono sotto tutti i punti di vista.

    Slicker graphics, more nicely designed tracks and extra weapons, but the analogue control is far too over-sensitive (stick to the D-pad) and once again the difficulty curve is badly misjudged; the later levels are hair-tearingly over-difficult. Plus disappointingly, Wipeout 3 is one of the few PS1 games that will not run on the PS3.

    The inclusion of challenge and Deathmatch modes greatly enhance the gameplay, while the two player spilt-screen mode is sheer class. Add to this the hidden four player Split-screen-Link-up mode and.... well, what are you waiting for?

    A shotgun blast of colour and speed, Wipeout 3 is not something you'll forget easily. It's the biggest, finest-looking, finest-playing game of an exceptionally good trilogy.
