Parasite Eve has been one of the only RPGs since Final Fantasy 7 to genuinely deserve any kind of hype, or at least anticipation.
-
It was nice to play a RPG-type game that was set in a real-world environment instead of some faraway mystical land.
-
As an RPG there are very few characters in PE, however the lack of characters is more of a feature than a bug since it gives you a closer tie to the few main characters and more of a role in guiding their destiny.
-
The plot is certainly original for an RPG, with the concept of cells as the unseen enemy of mankind. Certainly would have made a good movie by Hollywood standards.
-
Parasite Eve will leave you thrilled, chilled, and a little hungry, but its well worth the price of admission.
-
Very well designed and polished to near perfection. Its complex storyline keeps the gamer hooked from beginning to end, and the movies provide enough eye candy to give your corneas cavities. In every way, this is a beautiful, beautiful game.
-
A unique option lets you customize weapons, armor and character abilities.
-
A little slow at times, and it's one of the harder Playstation games I can think of. Along with the linearity of the game, these features may turn a lot of gamers away from Parasite Eve before it's been given a fair chance...[But w]ith groundbreaking graphics and a great style of gameplay, Parasite Eve has become a classic that no RPG fan should be without.
-
It's a full scale epic that completely engulfs you from the off and squeezes out so many different emotions that after a long stint, you're left wondering whether you really do like it or not. [JPN Import]

Parasite Eve straddles a number of divides. It is and it is not a cinematic experience. It is and it is not anime. It is and it is not set in a fantastical world. The developers seemed to want to break out of the genre but to lack the courage to really take the last step.

While the game isn't terrible, it is a bit of a let down. With all of the sci-fi qualities that could have been implemented, it is a shade disappointing to see that the story didn't go as far as it could have.
-
Fun and engaging while it lasts - however, that's just not quite long enough. It has some good innovations, but is an imperfect mix of genres.
-
The game is literally bursting at the seams with computer-generated cinematic sequences, but, at the same time, abandons many of the elements we've come to expect after the company's past efforts. While that's not necessarily a bad thing, the game certainly isn't the best Square has delivered.
-
A typical film tends to be fairly short, and Parasite Eve, in keeping with its cinematic inclinations, is no exception. Expect to finish the game all the way through in no more than 15 hours.
