  1. Nearly as enjoyable as the original. Despite all the frustration, I kept returning for more of the Wheelman's exciting life. Tanner is certainly "da man"!
  2. Everyone who liked the first game is going to love Driver 2- - the new types of missions, cities, and gameplay features, as well as a fantastic, original story, make Driver 2 a winner.
  3. It's a keep ya playing kinda game.

A no-frills but still decent update. You can exit your car now! Wow! [Jan 2004, p.188]
  5. The adrenaline-inducing arcade action makes up for the game's flaws.

It is exactly the same Driver -- and a lot of what we gamers put up with before bears a little bit more scrutiny this time around.
  7. The real shock for those who loved the original game is that Driver 2 is not nearly as speedy as the original.
  8. Spank!

Without the thrills you got when you started playing the first game, a lot of the impact is lost - so in some ways, this isn't as good as the original.

Collisions are far too bouncy-what should be minor dust-ups send your car cartwheeling through the air, and many of the timed missions have far too little breathing room.

Everything that was promised to add to the package has been, but all the problems that plagued the first are magnified twice over. Regrettably, it's almost all in the visual and audio categories.

An amount of bugs, glitches, and problems. Not only that, but not more than a few hours into playing Driver 2, players will find out how sloppy really is.
  12. How could Reflections screw this up so bad? Driver 2 is a pale reflection (har har) of the original.
  13. Without a decent framerate, the control suffers, and without decent control, the game becomes a LOT less fun. As it stands, this game feels more like a beta than a final, and fans of the original should just go play the first one again.
  14. CNET Gamecenter

From the grindingly slow frame rate to the in-your-face pop-up to the time you spend racing through empty streets, the game misses on every count that matters. Don't even bother renting it.

Graphics have received a downgrade but the FMVs have improved. Getting out of your car feels more like a gimmick more than a gameplay mechanic. Music isn't as good, but the cars are more varied this time and you can go to cities outside of the USA! So while Driver 2 doesn't have the charm of Driver 1, It definitely has the heart. Visuals and sounds are decent but everything else from story to incredibly bad steering, reversing and AI make the game real pain. The best thing is the rewarding feeling you get after dozens of failures in story missions. The second best things are driving games such survival which is really fun to play but that isn't enough.
