    Even in comparison to some of the previous Hyperdimension games, which seemed quite determined to mix in some serious messaging amoung the silliness, this latest title simply cuts itself free, and the writers clearly relished that freedom. For all that I was left thoroughly entertained throughout.

    The characters will annoy many but this game has it where it counts. The mission structure keeps you doing “just one more” whilst the ‘Game Settings’ truly feel like rewards. If you’re already a fan of the series then you’re in for a, albeit slightly shorter, treat. Others' mileage will vary depending on their tolerance for the cast.

    Superdimension Neptune vs. Sega Hard Girls is a match made in gaming heaven. A JRPG with some expanded and fun platforming mechanics throughout, this game improves on the Neptunia series model while sending the player on a lighthearted romp through an alternative Sega universe.

    Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls is a charming RPG that combines all of the magic of the anthropomorphic versions from the SEGA consoles and the parody characters from de Hyperdimension Neptunia series. However, that doesn't stop it to feel like another and simple game from the genre. If you had played any of the previous entries from the Nep Nep franchise, you will find it really familiar and maybe without any kind of surprises at all.

    Superdimension Neptune VS Sega Hard Girls maintains the status quo of the RPG entries in the series. The lighthearted story is a great contrast to the other serious RPGs on the system, though the lengthy visual novel scenes can grate on your nerves if you aren't already on board with the oddball tale. It's a shame that a large swath of the game is taken wholly from older titles with minimal changes, but the improvements in the combat and skill systems make up for that transgression.

    Let's start from the beginning, this game is completely off-canon from the main series: IF is different from the usual petite girl we used to love (or hate), being able to transform herself too and also riding a bike (it's important, I promise) and a lot of the original cast is not present, with only Neptune, nepgear, Uzume and Plutia (both from neptunia VII) returning but also their relationships is questionable. Instead we get 4 new characters which are named after 4 famous Sega consoles: Mega Drive, Sega Saturn, Game Gear and Dreamcast. Their design is either hit or miss but what makes it gold (in a sense) is that the game's story is actually taken inspiration from the ACTUAL story between Nintendo and Sega's console wars. Infact I love how Game Gear's look is similar to a boy in order to contrast Gameboy's "childish" mentality (I believe that "I'm not a boy" was also a motto), and how Dreamcast's sales are bad "because of bad timing". If you grew up within the 90s and early 2000s time, you can easily see the references in the gaming history and that's a nice touch.

    Although I wonder why Sega Saturn and Neptune fight against each others, considering that the Neptune was a scrapped console because of Saturn.

    But that's for the story: how's the gameplay? It's meh, sorry folks: it's very underwhelming and that's quite a shame. Let's start with the positives: dungeons are more varied now and even if you'll visit the same place over and over, the overall plan will change depending on the era you're visiting: if you visit the lava caves in the future, lava might stop you right at the beginning while in the past it's more open and leads to a second area. In addition dungeons have more levels to explore: you can now wall, crawl into small holes (with panty shot included, of course), you can hang on ropes and each dungeon has few secrets that will make you explore each one of them at least once. However they dumbed down the exploration by allowing you to use only 2 characters, which is a big shame because in any Neptunia game you could control all of your characters for some extra bonus stats (like jumping all the time, hitting first, etc).

    Unfortunately I can't seem to think of anything else positive, and let me start by talking of one big downgrade: the combat. In this installment combat was made incredibly simple and boring by making you press one button for a chain of attacks, or holding it for a stronger attack. SP are now gained during battle and they cap at 1000, making it both useful but also annoying to gather. They added classes to each character but the reality behind this is that they splitted the skills and moves the original characters had in these "classes", serving only for giving an additional grind to the game. Infact levelling is also quite fast and redundant: at10 hours of gameplay I was hitting 50 on all my characters and it's really easy to do so. The game is divided into sub quests and main quests, which is fine, however due to a time limit it will force you to "repeat" the game all the time until you either beat the final boss or finish everything available (i don't see a limit on this, but I heard enemies get stronger the more repeats you do).

    But even if this is all there is to it, the game is incredibly short: I'm nearing 20 hours but I heard that it doesn't get longer than that, with people clearing at 15 or 30 hours TOPS...and this is a shame because, even if barebone expansive, the neptunia games had at least some fun endgame stuff to do and in most of their latest games you could level over 100 for bonus fun (a bit like disgaea, just not as complex). In here I don't see that happening as the cap is (probably) 99 and infact the only thing that might take you a while to achieve is the Lily ranks (since that a max ranked lily with anyone will unlock your secret third class).

    However the game is somewhat solid despite all this: the characters are enjoyable in their usual fanservice, with Neptune constantly breaking the 4th wall and the others essentially being not too serious. Don't expect a lot of 3d graphics however and, overall, don't expect a lot from this game when it comes to story, graphics and overall variety. If you played any Neptunia before, you'll know what I mean.

    Do I recommend this game? Yes, but I highly suggest to wait for a discount before purchasing it. I was happy to have bought it (Even got the CE!), but I can't deny that it's just too barebone thin and lacking in many parts. And because of its short length, I can see this game being played for Trophy Hunters.

The first era is actually the latest one, it's a wasteland, and you have to repair history to improve current time. The world (which is totally different than in the rest of the series, it's alternative history) is shaped by Sega consoles. First one is Mega Drive (Genesis), it is antiquity with greek-like architecture. Then you have Sega Saturn Era, middle ages like. All eras show the same geographical place, so it is interesting to see how things change. There are the same dungeons, but they change subtely and expand. Third era is Game Gear, it's quite modern, very industrial place with a city that is one big factory. It is my favourite era, the athmosphere and music is incredible. The Last era is Dreamcast, it is futuristic city.

    You start in the great library that stores the world history and you travel through time to repair it to save the world from apocalypse. You team up with goddesses known from earlier games, and personifications of Sega consoles, called Sega Hard Girls, as well as girl called Segami, who is enigmatic entity who fell from the sky. Characters are very likeable.

    The battle system is fast and fun. You don't have to grind much if you buy EXP DLC. The party can consist of max 4 girls, but even unused members gain equal exp. Dungeons are fun because there are coins and hidden balls to collect. You can jump, climb, crawl through holes. There are many interesting battle mechanics, like party formations, fever gauge, skills, exe drive. There are 3 possible endings: true end, normal end and bad end. True end is particulary epic and spectacular, you should see it.

Tiene muchas misiones para hacer tanto secundarias como para seguir la trama principal.
    El único problema achacable es que hay muchísima escena tipo visual novel que te puede rallar y más estando íntegramente en ingles el texto.    … Full Review »
