    Pure Chess attempts to bring asynchronous play to a classic and fails, but the single-player is still worth the entry fee.

    Pure Chess's basic game and artificial intelligence are appropriate for beginners and experts alike, with many tutorials and challenges to keep single players busy. However, the lack of multiplayer outside of the crawling message play hurts a game that is, by its very nature, a two player game, and it isn't aided by flow-breaking input problems.

    Developer VooFoo Studios seems to have lost sight of what makes chess special – playing with other people seamlessly – and this sad fact detracts from Pure Chess significantly.

    Hard to believe this is the first chess game on the PSN. Graphics are pretty. Good use of touch screen. No multiplayer- I'm sorry, but inHard to believe this is the first chess game on the PSN. Graphics are pretty. Good use of touch screen. No multiplayer- I'm sorry, but in this day and age thats almost unforgivable. There's no reason why this should not be there. They have "play-by-mail" multiplayer, but it's a huge pain. Extended tutorial and lots of puzzles will keep your interest. Day one DLC is also a bummer. $3 for an extra table and set? Computer sometimes makes interesting (read: dumb) and questionable moves. If you're a chess fan don't hesitate to throw down the $8 for the this game but for people on the fence there's probably a better choice out there for you, including the multitude of free versions available on the web.… Full Review »
