Feb 23, 2012With the extensive customisation, robust level editor with instant access to the PS3 library, and overall polished track design, it doesn't really matter where the ideas in ModNation came from. It's one of the more complete packages in the Vita launch lineup, and also one of the safest bets in terms of having fun.
-
Mar 21, 2012All in all, it's still a fun experience and definitely the best racer on this console at moment!
-
Feb 13, 2012Putting the disappointment about lack of online multiplayer aside, ModNation Racers: Road Trip's customisation is unparalleled and the action on the tracks fast-paced and exciting.
-
Games Master UKFeb 15, 2012The creation tools fit beautifully with Vita, but this feels familiar. [March 2012, p.74]
-
PSM3 Magazine UKMar 22, 2012Vita's controls give newfound oomph and the content system is compelling, but a lack of identity tempers things. [Apr 2012, p.105]
-
Feb 27, 2012Although this is a good racing game and adds interesting features like the use of NEAR and the new editor, it lacks the online multiplayer component, an absence we hope to be solved soon.
-
Feb 23, 2012The missing online mode is a huge disadvantage, luckily the game has an overwhelming editor.
-
Feb 21, 2012Funny and well developed. Suffers from some imperfections such as lack of online multiplayer. Recommended for lovers of the genre.
-
Feb 20, 2012Best of all, racing acumen matters-Road Trip doesn't operate on the "if you're in last place we'll give you a magic toy so you can win" logic of modern Mario Kart games.
-
Feb 13, 2012Come on Sony, where is the online multiplayer? Shame on you. The game is fun, has a great track creator, plays nice but there's no online multiplayer which is a bummer.
-
Pelit (Finland)Apr 17, 2012Misses the point completely with the anemic multiplayer options. [Apr 2012]
-
Official PlayStation Magazine BeneluxMar 4, 2012Creating your own track has never been easier or faster. Use your index finger on the front touch screen to draw the track. Then add some details and an impressive mountain range using the back touchpad and you are set to race. [March 2012, p.53]
-
Feb 20, 2012The sheer amount of content is the primary eye catcher here, immediately followed by the smooth controls. It's a shame the touch features don't always work as well as was promised and the lack of online multiplayer is a mystery even Sherlock Holmes won't be able to solve.
-
Hyper MagazineApr 12, 2012It's still fun, but there are big handfulls of frustration thrown in too. [May 2012, p.79]
-
Playstation Official Magazine AustraliaMar 4, 2012Plays great, looks great, and there's enough in here to keep you entertained 'til next year but the lack of online multiplayer is a real blow. [March 2012, p62]
-
Feb 23, 2012None of these small gripes would kill anyone's enjoyment of the game, but given the lack of multiplayer, and the weak single-player, ModNation Racers: Road Trip is a huge missed opportunity for the casual fan, but the mod-tools are strong enough to appeal to the already converted fan of the franchise.
-
Feb 23, 2012Enjoyable, solid gameplay, smooth controls and lots of content and customization options. Too bad for it's problems with touch features and the lack of multiplayer online.
-
Feb 21, 2012A rushed packing job to hit the road and enjoy the adventurous escape of Vita's launch. It's got a lot to offer and has a wealth of good times in store, but with a little more time spent on getting things together this could've been the trip of a lifetime.
-
Feb 17, 2012Takes a great kart racing series, and adds a much easier to use creating system. Touch screen controls make the track studio much more intuitive and easier to use. Not adding in head-to-head online racing is inexcusable in this day and age. While it doesn't totally ruin the experience, it does take away from the overall series.
-
Feb 16, 2012The portable incarnation of Modnation Racers beats its stationary predecessor.
-
Feb 15, 2012Great creativity options but poor racing experience for a game which doesn't evolve from the last ModNation launched on PSP. Still a good game, but with a big mistake: it lacks online modes.
-
Feb 13, 2012This isn't the most charismatic racing series around, perhaps, but Road Trip is a surprisingly enjoyable instalment nonetheless. It's colourful, cheerful and a decent showcase for Sony's brand new hardware.
-
Feb 13, 2012The menus bury the coolest stuff, the touch controls are peculiarly particular, and even though the Vita is a connected device, I feel alone when I play this. If you're looking for a bright and colorful kart racer with good mechanics, ModNation Racers: Road Trip fits the bill, but it doesn't excel anywhere else.
-
Feb 13, 2012ModNation Racers remains a bastion for creativity, and I can only hope its focus on user-made content influences other kart racers and the racing genre as a whole. Road Trip's new touchscreen controls further refine content creation, but they aren't a game changer. Unfortunately, the lack of online multiplayer is.
-
Feb 15, 2012With so much emphasis on sharing, the fact that there's only local multiplayer is frankly puzzling. More time should have been spent on what matters instead of fun gimmicks to promote hardware functionality.
-
CD-ActionFeb 14, 2012Does not stand out in any way and disappoints with its lack of internet multiplayer. [March 2012, p.77]
-
Feb 17, 2012The single-player career mode and customization options make this a fun diversion, but it's not as addictive or polished as Mario Kart, it lacks key features, and it fails to take full advantage of the Vita's hardware. This is a bargain-bin purchase for people who love kart racing, not a must-own title for gamers of all stripes.
-
Apr 28, 2012ModNation Racers is nothing to write home about, and is best compared to standing still in traffic during rush hour. You'll stand still, pull up slightly, hit the brakes, and stand still again. Not even beautiful scenery will rectify this road trip.
-
Apr 9, 2012More of a "create your content" rather than a "create your content and play" game. Granted, it's entertaining, but it is obvious that ModNation for Vita is a rushed product.
-
Apr 2, 2012Poor driving mechanics and flawed level design makes this title a bad choice for those who are interested in good kart games. But the high amount of customization options makes it an excellent choice for creative people.
-
Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)Mar 5, 2012Sadly, ModNation's creative side trumps the racing. [Apr 2012, p.57]
-
Feb 23, 2012ModNation Racers: Road Trip is a game that could have been much more.
-
Feb 21, 2012But while it's easy to create races, playing them is another matter thanks to ruthless power ups that make racing a joyless messy chaos. Overall the experience is a mixed bag of good and evil. If you're creative juices flow freely at the thought of making beardy Gandalf drivers and courses that are Mordor-meets-Nürburgring, then lifespan is only limited by your imagination.
-
Feb 20, 2012It's far from a disaster, but it's not really the challenger to Mario Kart 7 that we were hoping for.
-
Feb 17, 2012It's a little cramped – occasionally you'll swipe past the option you wanted and need to make a series of jerking thumb moves to get back on track – but offers a breezy kind of customisation both for those with inspiration and plans they want to execute and those without, who just want to browse and tinker.
-
Feb 17, 2012If you can look beyond the technical issues you'll get a tolerable funracer with an interesting editor.
-
Feb 16, 2012If you already own a ModNation Racers game you can skip this, due to the lack of online racers. However, if you're new to the series you'll have a great cart-racing time, as long as you're ok with only playing with people in your vicinity.
-
Feb 15, 2012ModNation Racers: Road Trip gets off to an exciting start but sputters and lurches across the finish line.
-
Feb 13, 2012This is a typical launch title in many ways - by no means as good as it could have been, but a solid effort no doubt developed under the strictest of time restraints.
-
Play UKMar 4, 2012Vita's black sheep. It's not awful by any stretch of the imagination, but it's difficult to recommend. [Issue#215, p.77]
-
Feb 24, 2012ModNation Racers: Road Trip features impressive creation tools integrated with a moderately enjoyable game. But with no online multiplayer and a single-player mode that becomes quickly frustrating, you must decide if the creative aspects are enough to keep you satisfied.
-
Feb 28, 2012Despite the well-executed customization suite and some entertaining gameplay, it feels like too many good ideas were buried under mountains and mountains of bullshit you never asked for and you'll never use.
-
Feb 24, 2012It´s not a really an aggravating game, but one that could have used six months of extra development time, to make it an organic and natural extension to its PS3-counterpart. As it stands, Sony is leaving the ModNation Racers community hanging in the air – not a big surprise after the announcement of LittleBigPlanet Karting, though.
-
Feb 13, 2012ModNation Racers on the Vita is a boring, unfair, and wholly unnecessary release that manages to be worse than its previous handheld outing despite the Vita's technical superiority over the PSP.
-
Feb 13, 2012ModNation Racers Road Trip isn't terrible, it's just not particularly good. Sure, the creation aspect of the game is solid and ranks up there with the very best at this sort of thing, but on the track whilst the handling is fine the graphics struggle and the action feels slightly stilted.
-
Feb 27, 2012All in all, ModNation Racers: Road Trip just feels unfinished. From the issues with the Vita capable options, to the lack of visual flare, this Road Trip has more hiccups than a Griswold family Vacation, but just like those movies, it may still be fun to visit now and again.
-
games(TM)Feb 28, 2012Outside of novelty value, there's little reason why anyone should pick this up with their Vita over the vastly superior WipEout 2048. [Issue#119, p.97]
-
Feb 27, 2012ModNation Racers: Road Trip has a ton of content, but quantity doesn't beget quality. Obviously rushed out the door for launch, it captures little of what made the console release so charming. Steer clear, there are far better racers on the market.
-
Feb 14, 2012ModNation Racers was never top draw but this drags a previously competent franchise into the bowls of low budget cash-in hell.
-
Feb 13, 2012By far the most blatantly rushed cash-in attempt of all the PS Vita launch titles, ModNation Racers: Road Trip is to be avoided at all costs. With horrid visuals, dawdling menus, and threadbare features, this lazy piece of software insults the system it is supposed to help showcase. In fact, I'd say its existence could be directly harmful to the Vita, given how it's one of the bigger titles available at launch and makes the Vita look like it's only capable of producing garbage.
-
Feb 13, 2012It's a complete misfire, and no amount of goofy skins or nifty track editors can make up for the seriously busted fundamentals.
