Broken gameplay mechanics with random deaths and stupid level-design where you can catch a bullet anywhere because of glass walls. Best tactic - shoot once and wait while stupid enemies go to your position and kill them all one by one on the edge. All of original game weaks is right here and multiple by 2. This is not hardcore or normal gameplay, this is lazy design. Hugely Disappointing. Hotline Miami 1 was incredible - tight controls, addictive and challenging gameplay, unique and nostalgic graphics...but the sequel is a train wreck for one reason: regular crashing during missions. I am forced to complete the mission again...and then low and behold...it happens again two missions later. Advice to potential buyers: for series virgins - play the first game, for series veterans - replay the first game. STAY AWAY from this sequel. Expand

This is a severely disappointing follow-up to one of my favorite games of recent years (also played on Vita). Any effort made to add to the formula is offset by the game prohibiting you from enjoying yourself. Any effort made to add to the formula is offset by the game prohibiting you from enjoying yourself. The lock-on system works only when it feels like (both the square button to auto-lock or the touchscreen), and there is no rhyme or reason to when it will eventually work (seems to vary by level, too). In one level, enemies will sometimes clip through walls and kill you, or run outside the map, circle around the whole level and get you that way, just in case you needed some more nonsense to deal with. What really baffles me is that I had no such issues with the first game - by the same creative and porting team.
Wait for a patch, and then maybe the game will stop being difficult for all the wrong reasons and can live up to the standard set up by its superior predecessor. The greatness that was Hotline Miami is still in there, but the game doesn't want you to have it all to yourself.

Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is a nice sequel, although there are quite some issues to talk about. It has similar mechanics and adds new ones that aren't as good as the old ones. Layout design and the tortuous plot unfolding weigh down a game that was really straightforward. Even so, it's enjoyable, mainly because it has one of the best soundtracks ever.

Addictive, challenging and most importantly fun to play, Hotline Miami 2: Wrong Number is an ambitious sequel which excels in its story telling, artistic style and soundtrack, Bloody Brilliant.

To follow up one of the greats like Hotline Miami was never going to be easy and this fails to improve on it in every single way. It is still a decent game though, just don’t expect the second coming!
