While instantly aesthetically displeasing and having bad writing and bad voice acting [really campy b-movie level], it really did seem like it was an 8/10 early on. As the game goes on it becomes more and more abrasive for many reasons.

-The random encounters are all rock paper scissors fights where you hit really heavy and so do they, so you have to manually heal your party after every single battle

-They hype up this big sports game in the story, then when you finally get to play it, it is a rigged match made for you loose badly in, and then instead of that mattering for the story like they hyped it to, the game disappears into the menu at save spots as an optional minigame

-there are very annoying puzzles with unnecessary menus that pop up anytime you want to do something

-There are very few enemy types, they get reused often and in the same exact combinations

-There are very very cheap enemies that can wipe out your entire party before you even have a turn later on, making them harder than bosses

    -the protagonist is exceedingly dumb

-a sex scene happens completely out of no where with no lead up romance

-there is a race of people who speak a different language, and you find books that teach you one letter each, and you never piece it together. You are supposed to combine the letters your friends have found on the same game system by combining the save files. So you go through the game watching all this dialogue in a different language annoyed that you can't understand it and are missing parts of the story.

-the airship in this game is unusable

-they didn't bother to lip-sync the characters to the english audio

-an entire level where you have to constantly be on edge for lighting to hit you

    -and you can't skip cutscenes

This last point brings me to where I quit. After a 5 minute long cutscene, I was faced with a boss that killed one of my party members before I even had a turn, and then later killed them all in one hit. When you get a game over, it doesn't offer to reload from the start of the fight or the cutscene OR your last save file. It goes back to loading the main menu. You have to click through to prevent the opening movie to play, load your game, walk back to where you were, and sit through the same poorly written, poorly acted cutscene again, only to face the same poorly designed boss.

I truly do not know why this game is highly regarded, I am more disappointed in the community than the game.

    FFX-2

At first it seemed pretty cool. I could play through as a giant crab if i wanted to. The job system is cool. I love their goth friend. The way they tease each other is funny and lighthearted. But the more I played, the more sloppy the design became. I went to a place with a mission, it didn't tell me where that mission was, eventually I encountered a red "go there!" arrow on my mini-map, and when i went where it told me, there was nothing to do there. So I tried another mission and it involved going through an entire level you already went through in FFX just to have someone run away so you have to backtrack through that entire same level again, all with random encounters. This is a sloppy mess.

I didn't like any of these 2 games, the worst of the saga in my opinion.

I particularly didn't continue playing, I searched spoilers in the internet and that saved me.

The premade characters are not my taste, and the story seems like something for a girl.

I know JRPGs take time to develop the story and the characters, but this game stretches that too much,
12 hours into the game and I am still getting pop-up tutorials!

    - I hate the encounter rate in this game, 7 encounters/per/minute is ridiculous!
    - walking is so slow and almost calming,,,,,,,,,,,,, SHATTER SCREEN AND ENCOUNTER MONSTERS AND CHANGE THE MUSIC!!!!

Long Answer: Many positive things can be said about this game, such as its technical evolution with respect to its predecessors since it has beautiful pre-rendered 3D scenarios, excellent character design, great soundtrack and a deep affinity system based on spheres. However, the desperate random battles, immense hall-world, characters without charisma, barely decent story and mediocre narration, make this game a decent work, very overrated and at the same time, one of the biggest disappointments of my life to videogames is concerned. 6.0/10

FF X has amazing story, characters and music - which is easily one of the best in the genre. Combat system in this just feels a bit old and annoying - you cannot see your enemies and it is like you go 10 metres - combat starts - go 10 metres - combat starts... and again and again. This feels a bit annoying. Gameplay in FF X is really slow, you cannot skip many useless combat videos (especially summoning aeons) which you do not want to see again if you already seen them 100 times. The game has many strong parts but unfortunately decent amount of weaker parts. FF X-2 is quite a different game. Graphics look there slightly better than in X, combat system is quite different too - it is way better there. Gameplay in FF X-2 is very dynamic and the game runs smoothly, even amount of rng encounters is lower in X-2 than in X which is good. On the other hand X-2 does not have as good story as the first game, even so the smooth gameplay and still not bad story make appeal of the X-2 really high. To be honest FF X without such a good story would not be so much enjoayble beucase slow gameplay with toon of farming needed is not what I like. Both of games are really good anyway and if you own PS VITA and like RPGs at least a little I believe you will like them!

The games were originally released on PS2, but they have been remastered by Square Enix and released on PS3, PS Vita and later PS4. These are not just ports, graphics were improved substantially. Otherwise the games have the same main content as the originals. Both being the International versions, they have a few extras like some optional boss fights (FFX) and an extra roguelike mode called The Last Mission (FFX-2) which I personally disliked. There are some other extras included, namely a movie connecting the gap between the 2 games (The Eternal Calm) and an audio drama play (Will).

FFX is the 1st fully 3D and voice acted game in the series. It's a turn based JRPG with random battles. Tidus and Yuna, along with their mates, have to save the world of Spira form a monster called Sin. The story is great, plot twists abound, the summons are awesome, and the ending is dramatic. There are also many side things to do, ranging from minigames like blitzball to acquiring Celestial Weapons.

FFX-2 is a light-hearted sequel, with 3 female protagonists who evoke a "Charlie's Angels" aura. The turn based combat has been replaced with the Active Time Battle one. The girls can change classes in the battles by changing dresses, and gain different abilities. A new threat has risen in the world of Spira, and they have to stop it. A big difference from the last game is that, while FFX was mostly linear, FFX-2 gives you access to almost the whole map and you can freely visit one place or the other. The downside is that FFX-2 offers few new areas, because the map was mostly recycled from the first game. Still, it's a fun game.

Final Fantasy X is a great JRPG. Even X-2 is a good JRPG, it's much better than what critics give it credit for. And this whole bundle is one of the best out there. Whatever PS console you have, you have to buy the Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD remaster.

I have the HD version for PS3 too, but I ended playing on the Vita WAY more. The remastered visuals are a good point and they look better in the Vita's smaller screen, although there's quite a difference between primary characters and secondary ones (who still use the "old" models and lightly revamped textures). The OST has been updated too, and in most cases for the better (the only song I think is better in the old style is the battle one).

The game itself is the same I could play in 2003, and that means it's close to perfection. For North Americans, there's the addition of Dark Aeons and other stuff we had in the International release.

The battle system is the best in the series (and yes, I have played ALL of Final Fantasy main titles), that let's you plan in advance as you know exactly how the turns are set. Even more, you (and the monsters) can alter the turn order with your attacks and effects, and that gives combat a new dimension.

The Sphere Grid lets you customize every character as you wish (once you have completed their set path). Also, I recommend using the "Basic" Sphere Grid (instead of Advanced) as, contrary to what the name implies, it has more slots, and you can use to fully maximize your chars.

Blitzball is a fun game to play sometimes and the best and most complex minigame in the FF Saga . If only they made some kind of multiplayer for the HD remaster that would be PERFECT. Anyway, you can still have fun playing by yourself.

In terms of story, I feel FFX has the best one yet. On top of that, there's a great "lore" behind that you can find speaking with NPC and looking for details in the game's environments. There's a truly well-constructed world that feels it has a history of its own.

My final score would be a 9.5 (only for not having all models revamped and the loss of "impact" in the battle theme), but Metacritic wants an integer score, so I round up (also because this game is also one of my personal favourites)

I remember getting one Celestial weapon, getting some decent strength characters and that was it, beat it pretty easily.

This time through, thanks to the internet, youtube and multiple guides online, I am doing the full game, top to finish, and the international version has extra content. I have almost gotten all the Celestials, have gotten all the Aeons, am working towards getting 99,999 hit strikes, finally got below a 0.0 on the chocobo race, won the butterfly contests, am currently playing and dominating in blitzball to get all of Wakka's overdrives and have attempted a few times to get Lulu's sigil (keep failing but getting better, using the crater trick). I have never cared about getting a completion trophy before, but I will get it on this game.

It still holds up after all these years. All RPGs should take note that despite being "old" in gameplay terms, it still has gripped me more than most games have. Any fan of FF or RPGs NEEDS to have completed this spectacular gem.

It's bright and high-resolution landscapes, fun and dynamic gameplay, and upbeat and occasionally dreamy musical score make up for the occasionally shoddy voice acting, and somewhat disjointed and inconsistent storytelling.

It's bright and high-resolution landscapes, fun and dynamic gameplay, and upbeat and occasionally dreamy musical score make up for the occasionally shoddy voice acting, and somewhat disjointed and inconsistent storytelling.

    Graphics
    Pros:
    - High resolution environments that look incredible on the Vita's screen.
    - The main characters look great and animate smoothly.
    - The Full Motion Video carry the story along nicely, adding a lot of value to cutscenes.
    - Lots of detail in the weapons and armor that you pick up along the way.
    - Bosses and Summons look awesome.
    - Great camera angles fly along a set path, giving the game a cinematic feel as you run through gorgeous environments.

    Cons:
    - NPC character models tend to be kind of flat and didn't get reworked much. It isn't that bad, nor does it detract from the gameplay or immersion, but it is noticeable.

    Sound:
    Pros:
    - The music is outstanding. A wide variety of tracks that never annoy or become obnoxious. Come for the game, stay for the music.

    Cons:
    - I'm kind of mixed on the voice acting. As you progress through the game you can tell that the voice actors, clearly not trained in game voice acting (they were recorded years ago, around the year 2000, Square can be forgiven for its first game that had voice acting), get more comfortable with their voice work and improve tremendously. Still, there are countless instances where I just kind of laughed at how bad it was, like actually chuckled, and other times where I was just annoyed. The game could have done a much better job of delivering the lines, but again, I can forgive them given that not many RPGs had such elaborate scripts back in its time.

    Story:
The game presents fun, colourful, and interesting cast of characters who are on a serious mission which is guaranteed to have a sad ending, no matter what they do to try and prevent it. While never really deviating from the 'journey from one place to another' theme, the subtle twists and turns are enough to keep you engaged. The romantic development between the two main characters is PG13, which is to say that it's somewhat sterile and boring, feeling slightly tacked on. This is no great love story.

Actually, when you really break the story down, you can see how it never really pushes itself to explain itself or to go into depth or detail regarding its characters and world. It jumps around quite a bit without ever really giving much time to key aspects of the story. Even the final resolution is never really truly explained. I'm not saying that I want them to draw me a picture on a blackboard and connect all the dots, but I just felt like something was missing from the story itself.

That being said, I did enjoy it despite its campiness.

    Gameplay:
The game truly shines in its battle system. Rather than having to select only 3 characters with which to battle, you can actively switch on the fly between characters. Need a mage to use her magic to fry up a nasty Flan enemy, call her in at any time. This added dynamism allows you to build a strong team, where individuals have their own unique abilities that they can use in specific scenarios.

The battles themselves are frequent but never too hard. You'll have a typical variety of Final Fantasy-type enemies whom have frequented FF games for years, and they all have their own weaknesses and invulnerabilities that you'll have to learn to cut through them efficiently. It's never too easy, nor is it ever really all that challenging, not during the main story campaign, at least. For a real challenge you can visit various branching quests later on in the game, where you can use the increased challenge and experience rewards to quickly level up your characters into ridiculously overpowered killing machines.

Speaking of the leveling up, the game rewards you with AP points which can then be used to move along a sort of leveling grid, giving you access to branching ability paths that help your character gain HP, MP, magic, buffs, and a whole slew of abilities that range. The 'Sphere Grid', as they call it, is actually an interesting and fun way to control what kind of characters you'll develop, will they be magic based? Physically strong? Fast and agile? The choice is yours, the only thing stopping your character development is how much time you put into gaining AP and the necessary 'spheres' which are collected from battles and chests around the game world.

    Conclusion:
I highly recommend this game for people who love their Final Fantasy games and are looking to relive (or experience for the first time) such a classic and wonderful entry in the series. I do not recommend it to people who dislike RPGs or who are sensitive to poor voice acting. There's lots to enjoy in this massive game, and I'd overlook its flaws any day to be able to experience Spira again.

Weather your a long time fan or are new to FFX I recommend this game, FFX is one of the best games from the final fantasy franchise, why? top notch character development, although it's strongest asset is in battle were you can change characters and actually use Aeon's in real time.

(Side-note I just realized on PS2 the graphics for this game were outstanding) (Another side-note Auron

An amazing and high quality (!) remake to one of the last great games of the Final Fantasy series. The graphics are superb and absolutely beautiful on the Vita. The sound quality is top notch, especially with headphones on. The game has a few nice, additional touches, such as standard vs expert sphere grid (not on NA version of the PS2 game) and is perfect for both those who have playedAn amazing and high quality (!) remake to one of the last great games of the Final Fantasy series. My review doesn't even include the fact that it has 2 games for the price of 1, mainly because I do not like FFX-2 at all. For those that do like it, though, it's an extra perk! Now we just need a remake like this for Dragon Quest 8 and FF12.

It's easy to recommend this compilation to anyone looking for JRPG gaming on the go, and this pair of games is poised to steal my free time all over again—and I'm perfectly willing to let it.
